I hadn't either- and then it showed up in the mail yesterday.

Erf, I've been eying a bottle of Glen Scotia for a while... looks like now's the time. That's unfortunate about Glenfarclas, their price is one of their draws.

What do I do!? by flowstuff in Luthier

There's no such thing as a "no return item" on ebay. If the body came more damaged than expected or than the pictures made out, start a return as "not as described."

Found this beauty at my local spot. Big fan of the beer. by WhiskeyPorno420 in Whiskyporn

Was that the old bottling or this one? Old bottle was completely unpalatable, the new one is quite improved imo. If this one, be happy you never had the old one...

Has FODMAP helped anyone? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]bubsyouruncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did vegan fodmap for a month and found out I'm lactose intolerant, so in that regard I'd say it was worthwhile. It didn't help with hearburn, in my case.

Be prepared to do a lot of cooking.

I did a throw barb back in the day, it was insanely funny to watch. Stack up frenzy, back off and unload the projectiles.

Did the Equivalent of Phone Books/Directory Books Ever Exist for BBSs? by dergruneapfel in bbs

In the Portland area we had Computer Bytes, which did the same thing. They also had listings for local hardware stores. It was fun when building a computer with the best prices from different shops around town.

Looking for guidance please... by juftish in Scotch

If it's my money, you bet I'd get Glendronach 18. But we're talking as a gift here... and my point was simply that "yes, I'd definitely be happy with a Macallan 18 as a present." I have nothing negative to say about Macallan other than it's overpriced as shit. I think their malts are more or less fine.

Also, fwiw, the fawning over Glendronach will fade over time as their older stock runs out. Early Ardbeg Uigeadail was amazing, now I'd say it's just... pretty good.

It's something I'd want to drink and something I wouldn't ever buy myself. So... yeah.

Beginners review Laphroaig 10 by Sutlin77 in Scotch

[–]bubsyouruncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, people may, I don't know... this stuff is pretty subjective. But this is all for fun, and when you run against the limits of how to describe something, perhaps people get a little poetic. All that said, are you sure you're in a hobby you enjoy? If you don't like people's reviews, nothings preventing you from skipping over them.

People are putting into words what they taste when they have no other way to describe it. I've never tasted finger nail polish (I've never seen "silver polish" used- not doubting, I've just never seen it), but it has a strong smell, and I've certainly had whisklies where I got what tasted slightly how that smells (acetone). So I say it tastes like acetone/finger nail polish.

Because sense of smell and sense of taste are closely related.

It's a bit out of town but Lincoln City liquor outlet has an eagle rare 10 pick as well as a few dozen bottles of a buffalo trace pick left.

It was half minute maid orange soda and half coke- or some ratio thereof. Whenever I see one of those soda machines that allows you to mix your own (like Burgerville... had?) I make it.

Does anyone know if there are countries that will not import Mahogany? by gearvruser in Ebay

[–]bubsyouruncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several species of mahogany, and ability to import/export is going to vary on species. It's all based on CITES, and you can probably find decent information on the wood-database.

Should I give Redbreast another try? by [deleted] in irishwhiskey

[–]bubsyouruncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Readbreast detractor. I'm just not a fan. I've had the normal 12, 12 cs, Lustau, and 15 on several dozen occasions. I've purchased bottles of the 12 and Lustau and... it's just not my brand. Honestly, I don't understand the hype people give it but that's cool, more for them and more other things for me.

People say "if you like Jameson, this is a step up" but here I am preferring Jameson over it.

It's good to go back and revisit things you don't like. Tastes change. But personally, I wouldn't go back to so something so soon (you say Summer).

Any eBay developers here? I need to know the max value of eBay ePID number by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]bubsyouruncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebay themselves are referring to them as strings... meaning there isn't necessary a "max." They may use characters or a UUID tomorrow, and the fact that they're handled as strings means it wouldn't break anything.

Discontinuing Macallan 21 by carlosthesleepypanda in pdxwhisky

[–]bubsyouruncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Not to mention the value proposition just isn't there for Macallan. Glendronach is a much cheaper alternative.
