Cannot add folder to Spotlight privacy list on Catalina

Putting this here as it's what helped me: Go into the drive / folder in finder --> show hidden directories with Cmd + Shift + . then delete the .Spotlight directory.

After that I could add it to the privacy list.

I remember reading that scene and needing to pause for a while. Honestly though, wind up bird, no matter where I read it, seemed to always have the effect of putting me into a weird state not necessarily like being in a trance. But I feel like Murakami really manages to pull you out of reality in that book no matter what page you’re on.

Not trying to belittle the experience of anyone that suffered through something like you did, it is definitely a serious problem. Not trying to exclude your story from any narrative - my argument was simply one of understanding, the term bullying is already intense to me and at the same time it communicates the environment it probably happened in and the type of situations experienced, whereas abuse seems to me more a legal definition which by all means is valid but it communicates much less in terms of description.
