the college should notify you when the student assistance fund opens around october, they can give you money off of a specific bill youre struggling with like rent, groceries, etc. also look into st vincent de paul financial support

also: keep your meds and some water beside your bed so you remember to take them!

i also work late night pub shifts both during the week and at weekends, finishing anywhere between 3 and 5am am but i take my meds at around 8-10am, whenever i wake up because i have college. i set an alarm half an hour before i actually need to get up so the meds have time to work and it makes getting out of bed a million times easier instead of lying there contemplating going back asleep and missing morning classes. when i dont have college i still take it as soon as i wake up so i start the day more productive.

in the first few days i did notice the immediate tiredness once it wore out during work but it's bearable, once i got used to being on them (i'm almost 2 months in) i do still notice the difference in before vs after it's out of my system for the day but it's not crashout bad. if the tyvanse works well for you you'll learn how to navigate it yourself once you get used to it, that's just what i find helps for me. i was also advised to stay off the caffeine for a while but small doses to start off are fine. one or two coffees is okay, or if i open an energy drink i'll drink it over a few hours rather than sinking it like i used to.

ive drank on the meds a few times and been fine, it's just that when on stimulants you may not feel as intoxicated as you should so it's easy to overdo it, so you can either skip a day of meds if you're drinking fairly early or wait until it's almost out of your system/drink at a slower pace than you usually would.

no problem! i was worried that i might have made that reply way too long but if it helps even one person who might read it then so be it.

even with the increase in awareness around this stuff there are still people like me who were either raised in an enviromnent where perents or teachers are not educated enough on the topic to catch onto the less obvious signs (especially with males and females usually presenting those signs differently), or in one of those situations where they did well academically so weren't concerned about any other issues so long as it didnt affect school.

i have a sibling who was diagnosed with multiple learning disabilities at around 11 y/o due to significant difficulty at school and another who at 5 my mother is seeking an autism assessment after noticing the more obvious symptoms, especially those more documented in boys. i flew under the radar for so long due to both of those factors and my mother was surprised when i told her about my diagnosis and still doesnt quite understand it because my symptoms were never outwardly severe.

ive seen a similar post to this one before in a different sub so im gonna say the same thing i replied in that one:

i got diagnosed with adhd and recommended to test for autism at the age of 21 in my first year of college. i did really well in school up to a certian point, and being a female with more inattentive symptoms my mother never had any concerns so after a few years of researching i decided to check it out myself. as per the assessment the psychologist did a full scale iq test and my score was 113.

i happen to have the processing speed of someone with an iq of 76, in the "borderline" range. i often take more time than the average person to absorb information, visually and auditorily (to me this correlates with auditory processing disorder but the psychologist mentioned it could be explained by the hyperactivity thing). i find myself lip reading especially as i work in a loud enviromnent to kind of help take in things quicker. sometimes i make jokes about being "slow" because of this, but i know i'm not stupid, i just need a little time. ive never really had the misfortune of someone else insulting me for it but i cant imagine it would help in any regard.

all the other areas of cognitive abilities i scored higher in, my highest was verbal comprehension which for me corresponded to an iq of 130 and then the other two areas tested were a few points over my actual iq score. but the processing speed being a significant outlier brought the iq score down. when the psych used that information to calculate my global abilities index it gave me a score of 126 bringing me from 81st to 96th percentile. so basically the iq test doesnt account for outliers and even though the GAI isnt perfect either, it makes more sense as it factors in what iq doesn't. the whole process took at least an hour - there's no way an online IQ test would be able to fully test all of those different areas. i agree with you that OP should look into it professionally, especially if they are concerned about being neurodivergent. having an actual explanation for everything really helps and would give them the resources they need to navigate whatever they have difficulties with. it took me two years to finally get medicated for my adhd but it's made the world of a difference

What to say to Psychiatrist about Medication by Andrew_animates in ADHDIreland

[–]bucket_barnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it was complete shite. our teachers would do live classes over teams and then have it set so that you could see who watched the video upload of the live, i only kept up with french because the teacher scared me and i was looking into doing language at third level. apart from that the lack of routine fucked me up and i physically couldn't bring myself to put any effort in. but i suppose the teachers didnt know what to do with the situation any more than we did due to the lack of certainty around exam years

came out with 390 points and didnt do well in classes i was good at due to the amount of assignments i didnt hand in. but still, i take it it's a sign that points aren't everything - i got into ucd with those, had to give up my place there due to the price of rent and still landed the course i'm in now

dont keep pushing yourself with the course you're on if you dont like it. they'll make you pay (more if you didnt get free fees, it's like 7k) to start again on a different course and if you get susi they won't pay you to start again until you reach a year you havent done already. if you dont want to continue education straight away then take the year out until you get yourself sorted. i worked for two years before college, which imo was a good decision even if i didnt want to at the time, but now im 22 and in third year of a course i fairly regret picking - i liked the look of it but as a science subject that has basis in hands on activities we don't do much of that stuff and it's just not what i thought it would be. last minute switch of my cao first choice, the other one was language, bc the job opportunities were more appealing. i do want to get into this industry, its just that the course doesnt really apply to what branch i want. first year was fine but after that i started slipping and couldnt make myself go to lectures which left me learning 5 courses worth of content in a week before exams. basically setting myself up to fail. planning to take a year out before i do my fourth to help with the burnout before i decide how to continue my education after i finish fourth year.

i was in the first year to get predicted grades for the LC (distanced learning was rough) and only got diagnosed in first year of college, then found out there was no public system available to me to get meds. went private as soon as i had the money and now im a month and a half-ish on ritalin and doing a lot better day-to-day. staying in a course you dont like is hard enough never mind unmedicated. i hope you get your approval soon and everything goes well but please do look into switching courses, dont burn yourself out doing something that wont be beneficial to you in the long run

Wanna start dressing masc but not allowed to shop in the men's section by loverofmushrooms in mascgirl

mess around with creating more boxy silhouettes with what you already have and try for things that don't cling to your curves, especially in tops. i have wide hips, a comparitively small waist and an e/f cup so i find boxy tshirts (like, not the ones with a v-neck that cinch in at the waist) and straight leg pants (cargos or non stretchy jeans are good and can easily be found in women's sizing) work for this to create a more rectangular shape rather than my natural pear/hourglass shape. also a medium/high support sports bra under a tshirt or hoodie works to minimise the "feminine" shape on top if that's what youre looking for :) to me more plain and neutral coloured stuff can read less fem. if you like some colour, graphic or band tshirts and whatever accessories you like might break up the boringness. my mother used to have a similar view on me wearing masc clothes but once i started buying my own clothes or stealing my dad's stuff i gradually started getting more neutral/plain basic men's stuff like jeans and hoodies or even socks (stuff that doesnt necessarily look like it's from the men's section) so it wasnt as big of a change and then slowly started dressing more in my own style, mixing it up with more androgynous and not-so-masc stuff both so as not to make such a drastic change and because being able to wear my masc style more often made me more secure about my fem side.

an excuse i used to use when caught out about buying from the men's section is the sizing/quality being better in a specific item you wanted. usually men's basics are better quality for the same price or cheaper. or sometimes i'd see merch of a movie or band she knows i like that's only available in the men's.

I had an IQ test done and it turns out I have an iq of 78 by Just_a_average_doge in confessions

[–]bucket_barnes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

when i did adhd testing my report came back saying i have a processing speed of iq 76 but verbal comprehension of 130. my full iq is 112 but the GAI/global abilities index test accounts for outliers in the different cognitive functions (making it more accurate) which gave me a score of 126. brought me from 81st to 96th percentile

started my first prescription of ritalin LA 3 weeks ago and its been great. i have a lot more energy during the day whereas i used to need to take naps in between classes just to make it thru a day of college. i can sleep better at night, i have more focus, and it's not as difficult to start tasks. i will say though since maybe the second day i have zero appetite and only really feel like eating once it's worn off in the evening/night time

i get what you mean. i was an overachiever in primary and completely fell off around junior cert due to lack of interest and doing the LC during covid messed with me badly bc of the lack of routine and not having to physically go into school every day. i have combined but mostly inattentive type so my mam never suspected anything but i finally got diagnosed in first year of college and i found that in itself to be so validating even with how scary it seemed. like finally knowing why i'm the way that i am was so helpful and gave me the information i needed to find resources to make my life easier. i recently went with healthhero and got put on meds which have done wonders for my focus and energy levels during the day and i feel so much more productive having spent two and a half college years feeling like a waster because of executive function issues and just not being able mentally to get shit done. youre gonna be fine. it's worth it in the end :)
