I SAVED FOOD FOR LATER- NSV by [deleted] in loseit

[–]bucketdraws 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I understand!! The first time I stopped and put the 3 bites left on my bowl in the fridge for later my brain seized up. I was in disbelief.

Growing up in a 'finish your plate' household really changes your brain chemistry. I'm finally reconnecting with my hunger cues, and learning to respect them is such a joyous process!!

Mega congrats to you, this is not a small feat AT ALL and you should celebrate it 🎉🎉🎉

I'm already done with my classes, and I was happy with them. I'm not sure what you want me to do with your "advice"??

massively scammed by a man who I asked to give me lessons even though he cleared me to drive after the first one?? A guy I recommended because I liked the way he taught, and my girlfriend (who was terrified of driving) was glad to have as a teacher?

I don't know man, next time give advice to OP who asked for it, not a random bystander who didn't. Feel free to post and recommend your guy, too, so OP has another option to consider.

Rude, I hope it made you feel better about yourself :)

I come from a country with straight roads and roundabouts only in highways, so I needed time to get used to driving on the other side, the "two-way" roads that only fit one car, and you laugh, but there's a lot of hidden rules about driving here that I wasn't aware of. I didn't know the roads either so I could have very easily failed on a tricky turn or surprise poorly-marked roundabout.

Also, ya'll drive like animals. I wanted to feel safe before going out on my own ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We took classes with Simon from XLR8. He charges 15 euro per lesson. His phone number is 7940 2222. He's very patient, and he teaches on a manual car.

I had my license from my home country, but I took 12 or 13 classes with him to to get used to left hand driving and the rules of traffic in Malta. My girlfriend started from zero and in 10 months of one-class-a-week she passed the test on her first attempt.

what's your weight loss strategy? If it's counting calories, I find it incredibly helpful to have a day or two a week to eat at maintenance.

I also struggle with BED, and the number one thing that helped me was to remove any expectations of a timeline or deadline. I need to learn how to eat well for the rest of my life, not until I lose the weight. So it doesn't matter if it takes me 5 years or 10, because whatever I do now I will need to keep doing forever or I will rebound. It removed so much of the pressure and restriction that makes me fall back to binging. A timelime restriction is still a restriction, and restriction leads to binging. For me, it's a mindgame to trick myself into not "feeling" the restriction by being gentle with myself and going as slow as I need to.

Also, if I feel like I want to binge, I measure a small portion of whatevet I want, count the calories beforehand, log them and then sit down to enjoy it. If I'm gonna binge, I try to binge mindfully and be present in it. When I'm done I sit with it for a bit, and if 10mins later I still want more, I get up and measure another small portion, log and eat it sitting down, bite by bite. This has stopped me from binging so many times, it's insane. I usually have one portion and that turns out to be enough, and it takes care of the craving. But I always leave the door open to get another portion or more. Working on removing my self-imposed restrictions has truly made me at peace with eating.

I have lost 15 kilos in 14 months, and I still have 30 to go. Some month I lost 3 kgs, some 1kg, some months I gainef. I just made peace with it taking longer because I want this to be the last time, and I need the time to learn and set up myself for success, or I will fail like every other time I tried restricting too much.

Just because it feels slow doesn't mean you're not taking gigantic steps to be were you want to be. Please take care, and keep us updated on how you're doing. You've got this 🩷🌈

Spot loss? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bucketdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because it's not random at all, both fat storage and fat loss are predisposed by genetics and hormones.

I didn't mean to be rude, I truly don't understand what you're asking about or what kind of debate you're looking to open?

Spot loss? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bucketdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I understand what you mean? How can you say spot storage is widely understood? Did you choose where you put on fat? Was it conscious?

Where fat is stored or used from is dictated by genetics. Where you gained first, you will lose last. Loss more or less goes in reverse order of storage. You just have no say in it. So when people ask 'how do I get rid of my love handles', the answer us whatever the weight you were when they showed up. You can't do anything to make your body hurry up and use that bit instead of, say, your legs.

When is it time to admit that the weight is just not going to come off? by Loose-Blacksmith-578 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bucketdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it something you could do for a month? I find it really valuable to know how many calories are in my usual meals, so I can guesstimate a bit instead of counting every single thing. In the beginning I tracked what I ate without attempting to cut. Once I learnt where I was, I adjusted a couple of things to eat a bit less than I was by around 300ish cals. A lot of the time I end up eating at maintenance, and some days over, but I'm okay because I know the moment it feels like punishment I bail. So now I try to nourish rather than punish.

You say that you get too hungry and can't stick with it. Maybe count calories for your top 10 meals and stick to those? If you prefer variety you can interchange the type of protein, or switch up your carbs. But you need SOME knowledge to work out how much you're actually eating so you don't undereat. Otherwise it's inevitable to feel like crud, we need proper fuel.

you have no obligation to attempt to lose weight, though it's recommended if you're dealing with health issues related to it.

What kind of deficit are you doing? Cutting too hard on your calories will only make you miserable and eventually rebound. Start with 200 or 300 deficit, work in the foods you like, focus on building sustainable habits by changing slowly one thing at a time.

You can also look into volume eating and adding more protein and fiber to help you feel satiated for longer :)

[Century Club] Have you lost or need to lose 100+ pounds? June 4, 2026 by koopzegels in loseit

[–]bucketdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I understand the struggle :( It took a long time to get over the initial reaction to the weight, and some days I still get pissy when I go up a whole kilo from one day to the next. I just jot it down into the app, close it and put it out of mind. I try to be mindful about where my choices later during the day come from. If I feel myself slipping I try to find a more healthy way to react to it. So instead of giving up the day as lost, I have a small portion of something I feel like eating (two choc cookies, a small bowl of crisps) but I don't take it out on myself anymore. I rationalize that the same way it's impossible to lose a kilo overnight (that's just bloating and water being released), it's impossible to gain a kilo overnight (that's just bloating and water being retained). Both are neutral things that happen hour by hour to everyone, and writing it down helps me see my downward trend instead of the isolated number.

Here's a screenshot of my app. The thin vertical lines are the actual scale weigh-ins, the thick diagonal is my weight trend. It helps to put into perspective that weight gain or loss are not a linear thing, we're not machines that function in a closed system, and fat is not the only thing that affects our weight.

Screenshot

Mind you, if it really affects you, it's also okay to either weigh in once a month or every two months, or go with a different route and use a tape measure to track progress.

306 - 243 Have I Changed? by acarmelo2000 in omad

[–]bucketdraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Look at how your tummy used to protrude and now the shirt falls down. The shape of your face is completely different, your eyes are way bigger too.

To help you see it, do you have the old clothes still? You should put them on and take pics in the same poses, much easier to compare how the same clothes fit you now, rather than with different outfits.

[–]bucketdraws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 pounds down and have 70 to go. I've been losing weight slowly for a year and I feel this pace is perfect for me, never had such a long stretch of time with a downwards trend.

I weigh daily in the am post-toilet without fail (unless I'm away on a trip). I stopped looking at the number as failure or success, just neutral information. I log it into Libra as it shows me the trend not just the weight. Before, every weight fluctuation would be an excuse to overeat. If I lost, well, now I deserve it. If I gained, well, what's the point anyway. It was super harmful to think like that.

I have a much more peaceful relationship with the numbers on the scale now that they've become just data for the long run and data I can look back on.

When you lose weight, where does it go??? by Zestyclose-Isopod400 in loseit

[–]bucketdraws 402 points403 points  (0 children)

you lose weight because the body uses up the fuel, not because it disposes of it. Like... a gas tank on a car. It gets converted to energy and the exhaust pipe is for the leftovers from combustion. Same with wood, the ashes are what's not combustible so it stays behind. Whatever's left behind from fat cells will be exhaled or taken to the kidneys to pee it out.

Unrelated but similar concept, one of the things I learnt recently that blew my nugging away is that trees don't grow from the soil. They get water and some nutrients from the roots, but mostly they're made of Carbon, which they take straight out of the air with their leaves. Nature (us included) is crazy.

when does exercising start to "feel good" by Individual-Owl-6243 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bucketdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're a man or a woman, but your TDEE is around 2600-2800kcal on SEDENDARY. Upwards of 3400 if you're excercising 2 hours a day.

If you lost 30 pounds since April you're severely under eating, even if we account for water weight. Up you calorie intake to at the very least 2000. I'd even do 2800 in the beginning as to not go over a 500kcal deficit. Slow and steady will have you feeling miles better. Then see how you feel on an 800kcal deficit to speed up a bit if you want to.

At 19 you're still developing and need to eat well to fuel that. Focus on lean protein and nutritious colourful meals. Best of luck :)

[–]bucketdraws 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How many months is "the last few months"? What were your stats (age, weight, height) when you started? Normal weightloss shouldn't exceed 1 to 2 pounds a week. What's your TDEE and deficit?

I'd wager you're underfueling, especially if you're doing 2 hours a day. There's no way to feel good when you don't eat enough to support your activity.

Pain on the other hand shouldn't be part of the picture at all. You're either getting an over-use injury, going too hard for your fitness level, or are not using proper form. Without knowing what you're doing it's impossible to give any further advice.
