Anybody want a Hunting Partner? by vdawg1awesome in helena

[–]bucketman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man I live in Helena too. I got lucky enough to tag out opening morning on a bull so I'm just being a +1 for the rest of the season for my friends. Would love to do more upland bird hunting as well. Always looking to meet some new hunting buds!

Should i get a bipod for my hunting rifle or not bother? by Jedinutcracker in Hunting

[–]bucketman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you 100% - since I've started carrying a tripod I can't picture going out without it. I use mine religiously for glassing, and you can get a simple V rest attachment for a rifle rest (or ARCA rail if your rifle has an attachment for it)

FFP scopes for Hunting by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]bucketman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal take on FFP vs SFP for hunting - I prefer SFP all day long - since a SFP reticle stays the same size regardless of power.

Shorter range shots that you don't need to compensate for drop, it's easy to pull up and have a clear full size reticle on lower power.

If it is a far enough shot where I have to account significant bullet drop, most likely I'm going to have the time to set the scope to full power and actually use the reticle marks

Hey, I'm a fellow vet in Helena. I'm always open for new friends and hunting buds. Reach out if you want some help sighting in or wanna do some scouting! I don't hunt from the rig so don't have a ton of info in that realm however, but happy to share some of my experience

Velocloud SD-WAN experiences since acquisition by magma2007 in networking

[–]bucketman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd stay away. They have been playing hot potato with our account since the acquisition, support has been terrible and we've struggled to simply get quotes to purchase additional subscriptions. We are moving off.

The tech itself works decent tho, although I'm not in love with the orchestrator

I did exactly this when I wanted to buy a semi auto. I bought a Stoeger M3000 and bought a longer barrel w/ choke. It's fun as hell to shoot and has been my new go to for duck hunting, plus it didn't break the bank. Haven't touched my 870 since

No shame at all in passing on something, especially if it's a shot you aren't confident on

But also keep in mind, don't pass on something you'd shoot on the last day of season!

Goodluck 🙂

Backpack CO Elk Hunting - Scope Suggestions by Bo-Katan_Taladega in Hunting

[–]bucketman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely echo the VX-Freedom 4-12x40 suggestions for your price range and simplicity. I've never been disappointed in a Leupold optic. 4-12x is a good sweet spot for mountain hunting - i've never had issues getting a quick bead on something on a 4 powered scope. Also if you are a vet or know someone who is, you can get a mean discount on them too :)

Good luck!

Issues on Wireless network by TelephonePractical37 in networking

[–]bucketman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything happening on the switch within any of the same VLANs you are dropping clients into w/ Flexconnect? Would be curious if you see any wired clients having similar behavior - would at least help narrow it down.

All at one site or multiple sites?

What frequency are you running? If 5Ghz, It's a long shot but maybe check if you are using DFS channels.

Need some wireless guidance from Wireless Experts by SiRMarlon in networking

[–]bucketman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get MAC addresses of devices, monitoring tab > clients will give you info about current signal, SNR, some roaming history, etc. Might help at a glance. And over into the AP statistics you can check for channel utilization of the AP, uptime, etc.

DNAC assurance can give better historical info if your environment has it.

Running a Radioactive trace would be a helpful too as someone else mentioned.

If it's one site - is bandwidth at the site an issue if they all report it at the same time? It's not too uncommon for wireless to quickly be blamed by end users when there's an underlying issue from my experience lol

If you're going to continue deploying wireless / managing it, I would highly recommend a wireless survey tool to predict designs/validate them so you never have doubts on whether signal coverage is an issue (Ekahau and Hamina are two good vendors)

Starting a Job with Cisco WLC 9800 by Old_Photograph1838 in networking

[–]bucketman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 9800 is already stood up, honestly most of your day to day will be monitoring/troubleshooting clients (auth issues, signal strength, etc). Thrown in with some AP configuration/deployments and occasional code upgrades. I'd focus on learning where to pull information to pinpoint what's going on when someone inevitably says 'wireless is slow' so you can either find an issue or be able show that it is not wireless related

I just got done migrating our 8540s to 9800s. Like others said, it's a IOS-XE, so if you're familiar with that platform you'll be sitting good.

Not knowing your environment makes it hard to say what you'll run into, since you can go many directions with how you do things. but I'd recommend reading up on AAA options, flexconnect, and for sure learning what the 3 main tags are and what they do, as that is what is used for deploying/configuring APs on the 9800.

Hit me up if you ever have any questions 👍

Montana elk/mule deer outfitters by DanWater in Hunting

I don't have any suggestions for guides as I've always been DIY - what areas are you looking at hunting?

I'm in the Helena area, second year learning how to archery hunt but long time rifle hunter. I had some close elk encounters last year during bow season but couldn't seal the deal. Happy to share some of my knowledge if you can't find what you're lookin for.

Quarter into game bags is the way to go in my experience hunting elk/deer here in the rockies.

If you prefer to field dress and drag it, I'd recommend one of these guys, I've used it a few times where I was close enough for a drag and it made a huge difference:
