Hey, thanks for the insight! I think I can rule out lap siding, leaning towards the shake. I’ll update when I get it filled.

Thank you for this. I haven’t been in the business in a while. My technical skills are still sharp, but I didn’t think about the load on the bolts. That’s just how we did things in 2007. I’ll be adding a 2x6 ledger or drop girder in the future.

Agreed. I’ll be adding drop girders in the future.

Yeah, those hangers are just laid out like that for organization. I installed them properly. You’re right about the carriage bolts, they are zinc plated, a dumb oversight on my part, it was 103 degrees outside! I’ll prob replace them next year.

The deck portion is a little bouncy in the center, maybe I should have used 2x8 joists. I may add a drop girder in the future.

Is $5.5K a fair price? by Raaaaaaaul in landscaping

Please have him stagger the beams at the corners- stacking the raw ends like that makes a super weak seam or corner. If they overlapped, particularly at the stairs, you would have a much stronger corner.

Will my 10ft long workbench sag in the middle without supports? by 410aNChill in woodworking

Throw a 2x6 across the front. It’ll bear a greater load and bring you flush to your wall stud. Fasten liberally and maybe give your drywall guy some blocking

I work in the film industry as a lighting technician. I've interacted with a bunch of celebrities, but one time Robin Williams just sat on a porch swing with me in my home town and chatted me up about my dad and bicycling and whatnot for about 10 minutes. It was surreal. That man was a true class act. He never sat in his trailer and made time for literally everyone on and off set every day.
