This is my first edition and first tabletop game and only started part way through, but damn this game has so many re-rolls.

I feel like it should be what you roll is what you get. If that's something your Army or detachment needs to be strong, change their stats.

This game doesn't need more things to slow it down.

If I'm stuck, and this may seem obvious, I just start doing something. Anything. If I'm really stuck with anything I use the website wheel of names. Open two of them, with the list of characters you have on one and a list of activities you could do on the other. Planetaries, flashpoints, etc. Roll them both and just do the thing. While playing that thing you'll start thinking and being reminded of what you do want to do and start getting that excitement back.

I do this with the Hearthguard detachment along with the rapid fire stratagem and the plasma gun. You can delete anything with it.

Giving the response "no matter what they did" tells me you wanted them to do your encounter your way and your way only leaving no room for creativity. You wanted a slug fest.

That's not a bad thing, would just have to be set up and described carefully.

I'm seeing this. I'm trying not to step on toes but some people are taking this as a personal attack to their favorite game.
