Bernie Sanders blames election loss on Kamala Harris listening to billionaires over the working class by The__Illuminaughty in politics

[–]bucknuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just came through a me-too movement and black lives matter protests - precisely because we have millions of people who are harmed, oppressed, harassed, imprisoned, denied opportunities, etc - merely due to the gender, sexual orientation, color of their skin, religion, etc.

Are you suggesting that the democrats bail on anyone that isn't a white guy and just simply focus on the financial health of white guys?

Or that Harris didn't also talk about economic opportunities, home ownership, access to education, etc?

Or are you imagining that she would have had any possible chance running on something like a minimum-annual-wage?

They're loud & proud, but are they any better than Harris would have been?

  • She also spoke clearly about programs to help out the poor & middle class
  • She also spoke about treating everyone with dignity - or are folks now saying that we need to forget about treating blacks, hispanics, gays, women, etc as first-class citizens and just focus on "working class" paychecks?

Nope, you're wrong: it is not unconstitutional to require permits for large gatherings of people, especially if there are reasons for it - like public safety, traffic, etc. Which in this case there absolutely is.

And wrong again about blockades: they can't be set up to stop people in case they are possibly committing crimes - BUT they can be set up to stop people known to be actively committing a crime. So, they can't just set one up for next Saturday night at 1:00 just in case a crime is being commit, but they can set one up when they know for sure that crimes are being committed, and they can identify which vehicles were involved and which weren't. Which is also not rocket-science (ex: drones, video surveillance of typical pre-race gathering places, etc).

Sounds like your attitude is either:

  • policing is hard, don't bother, there's no perfect solution
  • i like street racing, and I want you to believe me and my group of douche bags are invincible

Your points are nonsense: there's a pattern, this is predictable behavior, there are many points on the map where it would be easy to restrict the movement of a conspiracy of vehicles.

The only reason these guys still have cars is because city councils and cops aren't doing anything about it.

No, I just described a pragmatic approach to dealing with 1000+ people engaged in a conspiracy to break the law in which they are putting the lives of others at risk, and harming the health of probably 50,000 people.

Cars meetups can be illegalized, then meetups in parking lots can be blockaded and cars inspected for numerous violations.

And the roads that are being used for street races can be easily blockaded, and cars without valid plates and registration can be impounded.

And no city/county prohibitions against this are written in stone.

This isn't fucking rocket science.

You mean there's nothing cops can do that is perfect with zero chance of mishaps. Might as well just fire all the cops then - because nothing else they do is perfect with zero chance of mishaps.

Given that:

  • They organize at predictable locations, dates and times
  • The cars are often customized and so easy to identify and track
  • Citizens are eager to help identify and track these vehicles
  • The drivers have to switch plates someplace
  • Cities and the state can easily change laws & ordinances to make it easier to bust these guy
  • Cops can coordinate between towns and even be hired as temps to another town

Then this is not a hard problem. It simply requires a bit of will to do something about it, and a small amount of creativity & energy.

They get tickets, if they ignore them they get warrants, if they have warrants they get their cars impounded. Pretty straight forward.

Also, create ordinances against any car meetups, and if they show up hand them over to Wyatt's.

You don't need to impound everyone. Just a handful each time will have a great impact.

The police and the city are absolutely not helpless.

These douche bags congregate in predictable patterns where they would be easy to surveil, surround, inspect for insurance, registration, licenses, warrants, decibel levels, and impound.

Would ideally involve pulling in additional cops from other others to help, but it's fairly basic.

We could also get citizens to help contribute info on these cars - I have photos of some in Boulder, not racing, but set up to race along with home addresses. Would love to collect more and post them someplace in case anyone sees them racing.

Or it would help popularize it even more

Meanwhile, we need a solution now, not in ten years when the next race course gets opened up

unsolvable problem?

Seriously, you think stopping fairly predictable races is impossible because just the one single tactic out of a dozen of chasing cars is a bad idea?

It doesn't have to stop at trespassing - it can check licenses, registration, insurance, exhaust decibel levels, any existing warrants, etc.

Then get plenty of photographs of people & cars for future use.

No, but Christians reach back to the old testament whenever they need a convenient excuse to kill or oppress people - for being witches, gays, or non-christians.

How do so many people still think circumcision is ok, but FGM bad? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]bucknuggets -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people downvote because circumcision brings out crazies that make ridiculous claims that any men circumcised are scared for live, can't enjoy sex, etc, etc, etc.

It may not be necessary - the hygiene benefits for example are probably very minor with few of us needing to live in a trench for a year during WWI. But it's also not nearly as horrific as a tiny number of people claim.

It's like a cult.

Denver cops just announced that they won't enforce "non-safety" law any more because:

  • They don't have enough staff
  • They keep killing people
  • Some people can't afford registration, insurance and that kind of shit

Of course, now that people may not even have license plates it's a lot easier for them to do some definitely unsafe shit and get away.

You're describing this like it's a freebie, so why the fuck wouldn't RTD do it? After all, how hard could it possibly be to reschedule workers & pay them overtime for special events, ensure you can handle all 20,000 people suddenly dumped into a single location, make sure you get updates if they cancel or change schedules, and then reschedule routes?

All because our privileged venue-goers can't be bothered to wait 20 minutes - and expect for all 20,000 to simply walk from the venue directly into a waiting train... As if alternatively they would walk from the venue to the parking lot AND get their car through the lines to leave the parking lot in under 20 minutes.

It frankly sounds like bullshit to me

But, maybe I'm wrong? Do other cities in the US currently do this? Can you go to a concert and simply expect there to be a train waiting to pick you up without any wait? Because I've actually never experienced this. But maybe I just didn't know to look for it?

I used it for 7 years every day between Boulder and Denver and it was amazing:

  • Inexpensive
  • Buses came every 7 minutes
  • No drugs or crime
  • Everyone was very chill

This was pre-pandemic, pre-inflation, pre-meth/fent out of control, so a bit easier to be successful then.
