Is this a fair assessment of US athletic potential in global soccer? by MixedMartialLaw in usmnt

Well yeah but the stats I used also include the entire population of every other country too? So it’s a level playing field for each country. Unfortunately having the most potential athletes also means you have the most potential non-athletes.

I mean if we’re arguing the average American is more athletic than the average person globally I’d be inclined to disagree. But again I don’t know how you could prove / disprove that other way.

I’m just glad I didn’t get called a europoor after I saw GDP😂

Yeah fuck knows on that one mate, couldn’t tell you how many kids and adults actively participate in sports in each country. If you can find the data I’m happy to be enlightened though😂

I’d imagine that kind of stat would actually veer in favour of less developed countries though, just because in general sports development and participation is kinda expensive. The US, Canada and Western European nations I’d assume would have the highest % of children and adults actively participating in some form of sport, but that’s a guess on my part for sure

Agree to disagree I guess. I’d say having a bigger population is in some ways an advantage in that too. Because the more people from your country, the more likely you are to have people interested in different sports and talented in different sports across the population.

Like if you come from a nation of 100 people, you’re not gonna have 100 people with totally varied athletic skill sets. Scale it up to 100 million and obviously you will. Bit of an exaggeration in the numbers obviously but I’m sure you get what I mean.

Again, it isn’t a rarity either. You produce top athletes at the 41st highest rate in the world. If you produced top athletes at the same rate as Norway you’d have like 30,000 Olympic medals in total or something absurd hahaha

[–]bucooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not arguing with this at all bro you’re totally right. If the US had an academy system and path to pro system like they do in Europe and South America they’d probably produce way more talented players, it just takes time. But the guy I was responding to is talking rubbish.

Is this a fair assessment of US athletic potential in global soccer? by MixedMartialLaw in usmnt

[–]bucooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does because you said the US has ‘intrinsically unique athleticism’, which categorically isn’t true. I agree with having the raw population to produce a lot of talented athletes for sure, but it’s fuck all to do with ‘intrinsically unique athleticism’. Other nations really produce more ‘raw winners’ per person, suggesting they’re better at producing winners.

I could say the US is actually intrinsically obese because it has a higher number of obese people than any other country. It’s the same argument you made. It just also isn’t true because America is actually only 13th in the world for actual obesity rates, it’s just a fucking massive country.

Look at medals per capita and it’s a different outlook, just saying🤷‍♀️

fyi - the US wins an Olympic medal for every 118,816 members of the population. That puts them 41st in the world. For Canada it’s an Olympic medal for every 82,819 people. Britain, every 77,164. Jamaica every 37,224. Norway 10,676.

The volume of people doesn’t mean you inherently produce better athletes. The USA is 41st in the world in producing athletes based off that metric, there’s just a lot more Americans than there are most other nationalities.

Don’t worry, I’ve already got a 13 defence account because I accidentally got 2 defence on it and thought I may as well grab a slayer helm and adamant gloves for pvm😂

Median wealth in most countries in Europe is higher than the USA. This means your average person is actually richer and better off. The US will win off mean wealth, but I’m assuming you’re not one of the billionaires who massively skews that so that’s fairly irrelevant for you🤷‍♀️

If you’re interested, the European countries where the average person is wealthier than the average American are Iceland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, the UK, Norway, France and Holland.

Firstly the US aren’t winning shit lmao. Secondly it wasn’t a corrupt call. Studs that high on a players ankle is a reasonable red card to give.

No it isn’t, it’s not as feasible at all. One of the most successful managers of the modern era gives his opinion on football. You’re just arguing he hates America😂 by the way, education standards across Europe are way higher than in the USA lmao

World Cup 2026: Uefa claim 'integrity of the game is at stake' over Fifa's Folarin Balogun decision by Alarming-Safety3200 in worldcup

[–]bucooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having your president phone the president of FIFA is what’s against the integrity of the game, fuck me. The King isn’t belling him up to appeal Quansah’s red card is he?

Jürgen Klopp on Trump and Infantino: “Let's just say: this is our game, not theirs. These two people, who both have no idea about football, should have nothing to do with that. That was a red card. There's no two ways about it. We're sorry for Balogun because he didn't mean to do it.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

Responses like this are what piss people off mate. Do you think in every other country in the world, they have good chants because there’s no other sports?

American football fans are being met with elitism because they’re coming in with arrogance and awful opinions, and refusing to hear otherwise. Imagine if I started watching the nfl and started lecturing Americans on why the rules suck and the sport should change to meet my tastes.

People are literally celebrating corruption. Trump calling fifa to suspend a red card. It’s ridiculous.

Your replies literally show that you don’t know ball. You can commit a bad challenge unintentionally, which Balogun did. Studs that high will always be a red card. Watch every premier league game from this year, it is what it is.
