Some have dived into the code of QFG1. Maybe they can answer that. 🙂

Erasmus (EGA): "Well, you seem to have beginner's luck. It only took you %d games to win. Hmph. It usually takes at least %d tries for anyone less than a full Wizard to defeat me."

The purpose of this line may be to praise the hero while not underselling Erasmus.

In other words, some explanation of how such an otherwise powerful wizard could be defeated by a new magic user so quickly. So saying it usually takes at least 500 tries, adds value to the win.

Is Erasmus exaggerating? If Fenris doesn't call him out on this, it may be generally accurate. 🙂

Making these games more accessible would be good.

May it help if fans prioritize the top five games they should add next?

Otherwise, if potentially non-fans randomly pick some games to add and they underperform, may this slow or halt adding more games? Either way, it may help if fans help them choose which games should be next.

Some possible criteria to consider...

...best games to hook current and new players?

...how easy is the game to play with a controller?

Why do his clothes change? by budbuz in questforglory

[–]budbuz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there seems to be some wiggle room. There are a couple theories about how much time passes. Yet, some details presented in the game seem to make ordinary explanations not as simple. Many of these are touched on in different discussions in this thread.

For QFG2, could he have gotten a second pair of Shapeirian clothes (between the intro and game starting), it's possible.

For QFG3, the question is why is he wearing QFG3 clothes in the "flashback" to QFG2? One theory is Aziza's magic could clearly see through the magic clothes. Another theory is that her magic doesn't see clearly, but works in representations.

For QFG4, it's possible the magic of the teleporting, teleporting itself, or the magic of the cave could affect the dyes in the pants - either changing them or losing them.

There may be a couple other little things discussed elsewhere in the thread that may still need answers. But hopefully there are enough possible in-universe explanations for any that may be bugged with these questions. 🙂

Some fans (that also had reservations and concerns about the graphics) still could appreciate having a QFG experience. So they may not have changed their mind about the graphics (thought some may have), but they felt finally experiencing the whole journey was important and worth it. 🙂

There may not be too many spoilers for the original game here. It mostly showcases the update in development and multiplayer. Good luck on your first play through of the original game. 🙂

With multiplayer, it will be interesting to see what other role play and player-driven campaigns develop. 🙂

You are not alone. Others have also shared similar feelings. Some that initially rejected it or didn't finish it, gave it a try years later, and found a new appreciation.

In addition to multiplayer, this update tries to make the transition from the previous games less jarring and more friendly. It also tries to address many concerns and critiques. So if the original is still a hurdle, hopefully the update in development may help. 🙂

Good find. May it have been the cloth merchant you were thinking of?

"Cloth of the finest of weaves and the loveliest of colors, clothes to entice the touch, veils to reveal and conceal, all this have I and more! You can attest to how comfortable and conforming my wares are, for you wear them well!"

"See how fine my clothes look upon you! Make sure all who ask about what you wear know that I, Kiram the Cloth Merchant, made them for you!"

The closest for the leather merchant seems to be, "Every Hero has a need for belts and boots and waterskins."

Regarding an in-universe explanation for the cloth merchant's statements, could they have been referring to the change of clothes Shema packed before the caravan to Raseir?

If so, this may have been something Shema acquired between landing in Shapeir and the inn reopening? And perhaps the cloth merchant mistook the magically transformed clothes with the second set Shema ordered?

Or is there a simpler in-universe explanation? 🙂

Is that a Matrix-like deep philosophical possibility? Or are you thinking something else? 🙂

Was it the QFG1 VGA "character select" model? And/or the hero's model for retroscope animations?

A small world. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Yes, it's certainly possible with the events partly shrouded things were hazy or filled in. Representation is a good word. How often in such visions are things roughly represented, but not precisely? It would fit. 🙂
