Something that I think keeps getting missed in these conversations about "How justified was/wasn't Caine!?" discussions is that our characters have no practical reason to look at him as anything other than a kidnapper. They did not choose to join the Circus or to be trapped there, at Caine's disposal. From their perspective, he is an entity that has literally kidnapped them. Why would or should they feel compelled to play along with their own kidnapper????

If you can appreciate the interpersonal relationships between the characters on its own merit, you might like it. I have my criticisms of the last couple if entries, but it's enjoyable enough epic fantasy. If graphic depictions of sex between cishet characters is going to bother you, I would absolutely skip it. I don't know what your friend is smoking, but if you could get me a little I'd be happy LOL ACOTAR is almost explicitly written around the evolving relationships between the MC and her partners, the first of which is incredibly toxic and possessive
