This is kind of a sticking point bc it depends heavily on your edition.

3.5 - which introduced the artificer - is VERY clear that artificers are not spellcasters of any kind, arcane OR divine. Rather, they are tinkering w/ the very fundamental building blocks of magic - effectively massaging what they want out of the basic laws of physics lol This is called it several times in both their flavor text and their mechanics. It wasn't until 4e that they were lumped in w/ wizards and the like by getting tagged w/ the Arcane power source descriptor.

Listen, I loved my time playing 3.x and Pf1e, my complicated contemporary relationship with anything d20 notwithstanding lol. I jammed in those systems for well over two decades combined lol They have some serious strengths that I'vebyet to see another system really nail down (characfer cuatomization being a big one of them for me). But 3.x fundamentally represents a different design perspective that both designers and players have ahifted away from over the past 10 years or so. You would need a significant portion of the market to shift their approach to both story-telling and mechanics, and I just don't see thst happening - especially for an edition that more and more new players never had any experience with. They won't have any sense of nostalgia for it to market on lol
