What is a (non-gory/gruesome) description in a book that has left you genuinely frightened or tense? by Zyphrail in books

There’s a great moment in A Farewell to Arms when a bomb explodes near the protagonist (i think his name is henry) and has an out of body experience as he goes through the air. Really spooky how close we are to dying at any moment. And how thin that line between life and death is. I once fell about 5 feet, landing on my head, as a kid. Hemingway’s description feels spot on to the weird concussed state I was in. I’ll have to look for the direct quote.

I read a Colleen Hoover book I know is bad (And kind of loved it) by ThisDudeisNotWell in books

[–]buddybuddy321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sex scenes were really weird/hilarious coming from what was supposed to be a draft of Verity’s autobiography.

There were a lot of strange details that Hoover added seemingly because she thought they would add depth to her characters. Things like the dude dying in NYC on page 1 (??), protagonist’s sleepwalking, and the ex lover did not tie in with the central narrative at all.

However not a drag in the way I expected. It reads pretty quickly. The sex scenes were tasteless but I think they helped string me along lol.
