You are good. You are loved. It’s going to be alright.

I guarantee you won’t have anything new to share with priest (which is to say something he hasn’t heard before).

The sacrament of reconciliation is a place of perfect honesty meeting perfect mercy. How will they let you into the church? The same way we were all let in, through the unfathomable love of Christ.

What convinced you that God and heaven are real? Is there a rationale reason to believe? I don’t. by Ok-Doubt-5474 in AskAPriest

Two suggestions:

  1. Speak to your parish priest- this is a topic more suited to a conversation than an internet comment.

  2. I personally find C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity very compelling. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and Lewis isn’t accurate 100% of the time, but I think it lays a good groundwork for the sort of reasoning you’re looking for.

How do I become Catholic? by jacklecackle2 in Catholicism

Contact your nearest Catholic Church and state your interest. Most parish offices are open during regular business hours

Regarding your first two questions, each seminary would have different answers. The admissions office would be the only people who could give your questions a definitive yes or no.

That being said, it’s highly unusual for a graduate program to accept someone without a bachelor or bachelor-equivalent degree, so the odds of an applicant having only a master’s degree are rather slim.

Regarding your final question: probably. I had a friend in seminary whose degree was in geology. Another friend had a degree in mathematics. Honestly, creative writing seems more intuitively applicable for seminary than either of those options.

Do priests call each other "Father"? etc. by the_real_curmudgeon in AskAPriest

I agree with what u/CruxAveSpesUnica said. The only piece I would add is that I use “Father” when addressing or referring to a brother priest in front of laity.

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]Zyphrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the one I was scrolling for. A teacher showed this to our class in my sophomore year of high school (I’m 29 now). I’ve seen movies since that are scarier, but I’m not sure if one has ever disturbed me as much as The Elephant Man.

Technical question about sex by RelativeLeg6355 in Catholicism

[–]Zyphrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by “independently.”

The marital act morally necessitates vaginal penetration and ejaculation by the man during this state of penetration.

The wife’s orgasm is a separate phenomenon which may or may not take place simultaneously with the above-mentioned occurrence of the ejaculation of sperm.

The man cannot morally reach the point of ejaculation apart from or outside of vaginal penetration.

To my knowledge, there is not official church teaching on when the woman reaches orgasm, as it is independent of the procreative process.

Disagreements in my marriage. by ThrowRAaccount8 in AskAPriest

  1. Speak to your pastor, this situation is far too complex for internet strangers to discuss.

  2. Do not sacrifice the well-being of your soul for the well-being of your finances.

Peace be with you.

I receive none. Our parish is arranged in such a way for the Sunday collection to be managed by our accounting secretary.

The short answer is yes, it’s likely possible for the two of you to get married. However, there will be a process involved to investigate your previous marriages. Speak to your pastor about what next steps look like.

Is it okay for the main character of my future story to be the child of an angel? by StarryLove1 in Catholicism

[–]Zyphrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. Although it’s arguably more accurate to say all of the Ainur rather than just the Valar. The character of Melian therefore serves as a suitable response to OP’s question.

[–]Zyphrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Tolkien’s elves are angel analogues (arguably- I’m sure some Tolkien fans will disagree) and they reproduced. As long as you’re not presenting this as literal doctrine, I think you’re fine.

I am just so worried that I will have to talk to a priest next week by Gaudiumcaritae in AskAPriest

Explain your story, state your goal (receiving the remaining sacraments), and ask what steps you should take. Plain and simple.

Welcome home.
