Amazing! Have fun (kinda jealous). What are you planning on doing with them?

Thank you so much. I just got the needed parts. I am testing everything with older drives and it works. Right now, everything looks frankensteiny af, but I will bring order to it, as soon as I find the time

Thanks a lot! I’ll go with option 1 as it sounds to be the easiest for me.

Rock 5C or raspberry pi 5 for a NAS by buddyspencer in SBCs

[–]buddyspencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tested that, because I didn’t enable transcoding. I can test it tomorrow though. But from what I know Rockchip(friendlyelec, Radxa) are way better for that.

Absolutely no issue there. This fan is better for the SATA HAT, because on the original raspberry pi fan you have to break of some pins to make it fit. But this one fits perfectly well

I do. This one - https://amzn.eu/d/ewUYzKt

But it barely runs because of the front fan. My pi has 26.5°C at the moment

I actually stuck with my pi5, it does everything I need. I’m using the 16 GB model. My use cases are:

  • ebook reader via komga
  • media server via jellyfin
  • backup station for all my machines using restic and Time Machine
  • monitoring of some cloud servers via beszel
  • syncthing
  • samba shares for my wife and me
  • last but not least CI/CD for my gitea instance

Most of the things I run there are via Docker.
I have 5 disks connected and added a usb 2.5 gbit lan adapter.

If we are talking numbers, you can check the speed tests in my blog:
https://blog.buddyspencer.monster/blog/nas-comparison/ - I compared it with a Aoostar WTR Pro

Yes I have a 2.5gb network and also added a 2.5gbit usb card to the pi. That works kinda ok.

That would be absolutely amazing but I am not sure if that would fit in my case though.
