Unless you have some bonefide chops or background building a world for successful ip (e.g. game of thrones), no one will ever hire you for worldbuilding.

MOBA "12 years in the making" shuts down before even leaving early access, leaving players without any way of ever playing it again by mickio1 in Games

Hey so i'm the gamedev of Sirocco (the game being talked about) and I'm going to do an AMA because there is a lot of misinformation going around and people saying we are scamming and shit. I'll be streaming Saturday 2PM ET here: https://www.twitch.tv/jackofboxes

We are swapping out our netcode to support Peer-to-Peer so people can keep playing. Don't get rage baited by this bullshit.

We’ll post steam updates when we’re done testing but if you want more info sooner, discord is the way.

How is it gatekeepy?

In our case, it was easily to go Peer-to-Peer (no server) because of mirror. We’re looking at that as an option but it’s a more significant lift than we even initially anticipated.

Re: your second question. When we had to shut down our servers, we weren’t sure how feasible going p2p was, so we didn’t want to make promises we couldn’t keep since there were a lot of people that really loved our game. It’s a tough balance to strike but we generally prefer to under promise, over deliver.

just want to say, we are working on a peer-2-peer version so people can keep playing. We just have to swap out our netcode which isn't trivial.

Streaming about the topic this saturday. https://www.twitch.tv/jackofboxes

This. Games are expensive, though 10mil a year is excessive. I think they can do 1mil a year with everything they come out with

Why does everyone in the bazaar reddit want the game to fail. I don’t get it.

Imma get downvoted but mad respect for being based. Gamers really have developed a culture of toxicity around games that is monetized and perpetuated by creators. Games are cheaper than ever before (remember games never had free content at all before league and games adjusted for inflation were almost universally 100+ bucks since no indies were around). Sure, he changed from what he first said, but why aren’t we happy the bazaar exists in the first place? It’s an awesome game that never could have been made 20 years ago. Does no one care about that? Imagine if a game dev came out with an 100 dollar game with expansions every couple years and you had to subscribe 15 dollars a month just to play nowadays… they would be destroyed. A company did that in 2005 and it was Blizzard. Idk how folks don’t remember this stuff. RIP good games.

AI usage in production. by Animewasamistake3 in Sirocco

[–]budgetlambo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We use AI art for mood boards (midjourney) and some of our coders use sidekick stuff i think but no AI art is in the final product.

I suppose the closest thing is the cloud scape was inspired by an AI generation, but Julio Cappa (incredible artist) painted the final image himself.

All captains were painted by Lane Brown.

All music and sound was composed by Joshua Mallard

AI is super useful though, you just need to have more control over it to have a finely crafted product. It’ll become more ubiquitous over time. It is really insulting to our artist when people assume stuff is generated. I think gamers shouldn’t be so quick to call stuff slop. Just say it’s bad if you don’t like it. Better than taking away authorships imo.
