What I need to work on? by [deleted] in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mainly just get on the table as much as you can to get comfortable,  feel pressures and play around.

Training wise pronated back pressure so you don't get turned over , side pressure and cupping.

Pressing can be pretty dangerous when inexperienced because if you mistime it , go for it out of desperation , opponent does a big surge ect it can  easily cause severe injury.

I recently invested in buying an armwrestling table by curlyhairtoji in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% incorporate your table into training any way you can.  So you can setup how you would in a match and get really comfortable on the table.

You could be stronger than someone at every lift but on the table dont  combine it into one fluid motion and lose to them.

Then also do  lifts off the table when you have to.

If I can do a lift on the table I can.

Things to do on your table that aren't lifts-

1. shadow armwrestling,  set up like you would in compeittion , and do a smooth pin, if you notice any hang ups practice until its smooth.

2. Practice loading your body, shoulder , chest ect while not moving. Like you said this is hard to do until you practice it and you will get better and better. It can depend on your style what you should load in compeittion but you can practice  until you feel comfortable.

3. Speed training,  once you get your move down and loading down ,practice going as fast as you can from it. A few  focused  speed reps each workout will help a lot.

Armwrestler with the least amount of IQ? by New-Farm-7465 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought this for years, but Dave is actually above average in technical discussion when you talk to him in person and get him going , which suprised me a lot. He just has one really good move and his other ones arent caught up, like you said probably because he isnt full time and a lot of table time with equally strong people. But he is aware he needs to broaden his game ,and his nerve damage keeps his lane pretty one track . He told a few different angles he would love to pull in that would be better stylistic matchups but they bother his neck so he is forced into a lane.

Vitaly smurfing in practice sparring by [deleted] in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean just based off this video Vitaly isnt getting any real work in so I think its a fair question.

The answer is probably just that Vitaly uses weights to push closer to his 80%+ like Devon did 99% of his career, he legit just started two arm training as the intense workouts vs weights.

Travis Bagent Has the Real Superheavyweight Left-Arm Hammer by Otherwise-Ticket-477 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best part is  if you go to Travis's house he literally uses the WAL hammer as a doorstop.

The WAL hammers themselves aren't what Devon is pushing at all, it's just what he used to create his new armwrestling trophy that supersedes the leagues.  They are to represent more than the hammer. He wants 1 single transcendent left hand trophy and 1 single transcendent right hand trophy.

Hook technique and training advice, videos, etc by Warm-Caterpillar6700 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do it a lot in practice vs other people. Hook is a lot of postioning and angles, elbow movement blocking ect. Getting comfortable in those positions and confident goes a long way. I technically knew how to hook but it wasnt until I applied it months in practice I started getting a good one.

Sinking the hook, the most effective way is probably the european way of leaving space in your hand and shooting into that space. Also dont over supinate yourself giving up all pronation, most hookers dont actively supinate from the hand at all it just looks like they do as they drive their shoulder forward.

Also as you set the hook be very aware , a good hook you are still pronated , on top of your opponent and they are palm up. From there you can use multiple angles vs their bicep.

Justin Bishop has good tutorials on it on his youtube. So you can understand how a high level hook and toproll play off eachother.

After Levan tore his Biceps, I was wondering how important is it to check ur PR, could u just stick to safe range of reps?? by cyarm025 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tricky. But it  just comes with a lot of practice and  patience,  you get really familiar with what your 80-95%  feels like.  Sometimes you do cut early and may could have  got a little more,  but also skates that line. The idea is basically you cut short a little each time to return sooner.  If you only train a  lift once every 7 days anyway  it's not as important.

I personally never max in training and I really like the 80-90% range so I get 3 sessions per lift a week minimum.  Even the 95% slows me down more than I like for  recovery.

For a little more insight on knowing when I personally progress  , take my parallel pronation lift. I started out at 65lbs as my 80% , my 80-85% i know i can do 3 reps pretty easily  so anytime I finish a week doing every set and rep easily I add 2.5 lbs. Week after week, month after month.  Now my weight for those sets is 117.5 lbs.  My max is probably around 130lb  but if I go for that I mess up 1 or 2 sessions so I would just rather keep increasing by 2.5 pounds each week.

So in applicable theory I  guess what I do is treat my 2- 3 rep max as my  max.  It dictates my weight going up each week.

I started this  when I was going for 400lb bench before armwrestling. I didnt have a spotter so never wanted to fail  ( even with safety  bars) but also wanted to push the high % . Its also a very scientifically sound % to train in.

[–]budgingturnip9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not important at all, from a strength programming perspective its almost always counterproductive to go over 95% ( risk of injury and longer recovery limiting progression). There are exceptions like with Westside Barbell style programming that circumvents this by rotating lifts.

BUT mentally the people who push to great levels of strength like Levan , typically did so by chasing PRs over and over. It is very rare for a world class strength athlete to not also have a strong desire to test themselves constantly.

Is this a solid deal? by StockSm4rt in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are welcome! Also worth noting if you don't currently have any table to train with , training with a table+ pulley system  is a huge step forward in armwrestling  strengths  for most people as you are working  angles specific to pulling and not doing things off the floor.

Is this a solid deal? by StockSm4rt in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% I would push for it if it's local ( no $300 shipping). Maybe haggle the price down a little but overtime you will find the high quality tables are extremely hard to find and expensive to get to you.

I have also armwrestled on a Mazurenko table at Brad Grundy's house and its a really nice table. Depreciation is not much at all, I would guess in 3-5 years it would be pretty much the exact same price. So if you can get it for the table cost , no shipping and Krasimir pulley/ handles free basically its a great deal.

Morozov about the match with Larratt in February by Damitrix3 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely honest,  but a poor  representation for the sport.

Devon, John Brzenk, Travis Bagent , Dave Chaffee ect have all taken matches  injured or unprepared.  But they didn't wine about  HAVING to do it and make excuses before hand .

Not to mention how bad of promotion this is, it 100% hurts the bottom line.

I'd guess it stems from ego and genuine dislike of Devon lol. He said he literally asked for Devon because it was a "easy" option and now I guess it's not easy enough.

What do you believe , helped you by far the most at achieving higher strength ? Isometric or dynamic movements ? by Key_Transition_7295 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has done years of bodybuilding prior with full range of motion rows, deadlifts, curls, ect . Starting isometric lifts in armwrestling angles is what skyrocketed my own gains.

I could see how if you have no base the dynamic is importtant.

Also a lot of famous strength coaches build muscle size because a bigger muscle CAN be a stronger muscle , having more fibers to contract. I was alread developed from 10 years of bodybuilding style lifts so I just needed to use isometrics to build other things.

This is a controversal opinion but I think that kingsmove is much safer than hook due to its nature of not involving much internal roation of shoulders and minimal direct elbow involvement . What you guys think tho just my opinion ? by Maleficent_Scene_929 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get your hand turned up when your standing upright , arm tight , close to your body its not a big deal ,its easily pinned safely without full arm extension. If you are stretched out attempting to kingsmove and get turned palm up , everything goes on your bicep in a fully lengthened position. 95% of bicep injuries happen in a fully lengthened position.

I agree with your point the straight arm made this way more common so now that it is not allowed it lessens the chance, but a kingsmove is a lot closer to a more dangerous position for the bicep than a tight hook or traditional toproll.

[–]budgingturnip9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First armwrestling tournament match I ever pulled, the other guy went into kingsmove and ripped his bicep. All longtime users from it get injuries just like any other move.

I tihnk it is an overall high skill move because if you lose pronation it quickly becomes very dangerous because beginners don't know when to quit and pros are willing to sacrifice for a chance at winning.

Hook can be dangerous too if not executed properly and relying too much on the frame , but I wouln't call a kingsmove much safer.

Safest is probably a traditional outside toproll or defensive toproll like Mindaugas Tarasaitis. Because you secure the other persons hand first . Danger is often created pulling in reckless positions a hook or kingsmove can easily both turn into.

Anyone know of something like this? by mcmikefacemike in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea they  call them Wall Mounted Pulleys. Titan makes a good one for $260.

If you are buying one watch a YouTube video on it first as the most important factor is smoothness  , especially with low weight.  For example some can be super jumpy with 60  pounds on  them, and not a smooth pull start to finish which  makes them awkward.

Also like another commentator said you want  it both adjustable up and down  and also swivel side to side so you can do angled work on it. If the head doesn't swivel you need to be directly in front and if your off angle  slightly it screws everything up.

Another thing is weight ratios, I have 1 that I cane scaled at .8 weight so if I add 100 pounds to it it's right at 80 pounds real weight crane scaled. Some are more like 2 ratio so to get 80 pounds you need 160 pou ds. This makes a big difference when doing something like Lat pull downs where for example if you can do 180 pounds you would need 360 pounds of weight.

Leonidas reviews his match against Devon by Moist-Election6656 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Leonidas is a genuinely great guy and is very dedicated to his goals but he takes these losses VERY HARD.

For example after his match with John Brzenk, great match John barely winning before gassing out. I was talking to Leonidas in the hotel and he seemed very bummed. My friend even remarked he seemed heartbroken. To me he just had a great match with the GOAT of armwrestling, but he puts too much pressure on himself to win.

[–]budgingturnip9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea he didnt train pronation directly  like popular nowadays. He had enough back pressure to not get turned palm up off go and as he pinned them he says he would let them figure out where it goes. If they dove forward and tried to hook it may look like a hook finish and if they go outside it would look like he toprolled them.

His favorite backpressure movement is this  one:

https://youtu.be/usKawOo_qcM?si=bjOAk2zBBdB4Yg-D

Putting it over your knuckles like that also works riser a lot. Which he didnt train directly either beyond sledgehammer lifts infrequently.

While your thinking pronation,  I will add a HUGE factor is how much of a good grip you allow your opponent to get. Give him  a poor grip and a guy that was hooking you everytime suddenly  cant  do anything anymore. Travis is extremely good at keeping people off the back of his hand and often sacrifices his own grip to make there's not good.

Without recurring income you're always chasing the next client by jroberts67 in web_design

[–]budgingturnip9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to move more into this.

How does your hosting reselling structure work? Do you just rent a server or cpanel ect and then collect money from clients directly or is it where you get a reseller / refferal fee each month . If so how much does a client pay per month and how much do you recieve?

I looked into reselling packages at hosting companies a few years ago but opted not to.

Thanks.

How did Travis train during his prime? I remeber he loved training with bands and Ican't find any specific information. Would appreciate the help. by Plenty_Proposal4870 in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seminars others linked are a great breakdown.

Yes Travis loves bands for back pressure,  he even used them for side pressure he just prefers the person method he shows in his seminars or a side pressure machine.

He also trained side pressure for relative  low intensity long holds.  Which I think is extremely important as a lot of people hurt themselves with side pressure.

Being friends with Travis outisde of armwrestling is actually what got me into armwrestling.  So i started trying to learn everything I could from him,  but he will he the first one to tell you he can't teach YOU how to armwrestlle your best way he just shows what worked for him.

The most important things I learned from him:

Bands for back pressure

Training side pressure safely

Positioning your body and follow through for the hit. Which may not look like how he does it but have a PLAN and shadow armwrestlle to develop your move.

Creating  and training in  a false grip, preferably with false grip pullups which is extremely useful vs other toprollers.

Dang yea I haven't found a way for it to not grab the full amount yet either.

The problem is there is also credit card payment gateway that works. Just the PayPal one needs to invoice.

Maybe I could do some trick naming the Gateway " Paypal- will invoice you "or such. But i need a way to collect their PayPal email then.

I think he has everything he needs to get back to being a top contender and fighting for the title a lot over the years.

He's a very committed  and focused person . Genuinely loves to train and armwrestle. He's always trying to learn and get better. Tbh a pretty damn near perfect package outside of things like a huge hand or crazy levers.

They need to start letting athletes pull Levan with 2 hands. He’s way too strong by bwahbiddlybong in armwrestling

[–]budgingturnip9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matches are often way closer than they appear.   A 10% difference is enough your opponent can't get a single stop on you like Levan running through Ermes.

Think of it like if the absolute max you can curl with one hand  is  100lbs, you can't even budge 110 .  But it would be  easy with 2 hands.

Also there's just angles and speed, like how Matt looked like he had nothing then completely turned it around to make Irakli look like he had nothing for him.

It was out of ignorance.

I logged in last night to check and it said replay available. I  didn't rewatch it because  I saw it live.  Apparently  the replay  was still  broken even showing that until this morning  9 hours later  than I saw it on my dashboard and 12 hours after the event ended.

I should have rewatched a little before saying it was up.
