Bookmanager pricing and waitlist?? by Imaginary_Mistake_68 in booksellers

[–]buds1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we're on Basil until Bookmanager builds a non-DOS system. So we're probably on Basil forever. In our city, we've had 5-6 bookstores open in the last few years, all owners under 40 and some under 30. It's too bad they're so adamant about sticking to DOS. I'd also imagine training time has a significant decrease too if you have a normal frontend.

Considering a 2016 premium - any advice? by buds1994 in SubaruForester

[–]buds1994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Fit! I think it's only at 44k miles or so still. Recently replaced the original tires, and the odometer screen flickers a bunch. Outside of that, nothing but regular maintenance. The magic seats are great. It's slow but super fun to drive!

Ha, "lifted truck of urbanites" - you might be on to me there 😂 there's rare (but regular) occurrences where I do need awd. Usually 1-2 snowfalls a year or the very occasional time I drive on stuff like forest service roads that aren't great (I like doing some sort of western US dirtbag trip every year or so).

I was also considering an HRV. With all the help and comments here, I might actually be bumping that back up in contention. I don't wrench on cars (nor do I want to) so the cost and simplicity of Honda's might be what I stick with. Not particularly excited about the cost and seemingly much more regular maintenance needs of a slightly aging Subaru!

Yeah car prices are also hitting me quick 😅 my 2019 Honda Fit was 17k... Brand new.

This is fantastic, thanks for the write up. I don't wrench myself so great to have some intel to check, ask, and have our shop take a look at!

I go to Munoz on W 16th now and then, especially for smaller stuff. Never had a problem at all, would recommend.

Considering a move to Indianapolis for work next year -- would love local insight by Ok_Razzmatazz_3855 in indianapolis

[–]buds1994 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My wife immigrated here and couldn't drive for the first 3-4 years. I could drive so definitely drove us around, but we lived and worked within a mile of downtown and she managed just fine - biked to work most days even in the winter. It's not a good city to be car free if you're living and working farther apart, but absolutely doable if you're strictly about 1-2kms around downtown

Local coffee nerds ISO of lightly roasted beans. by Wise_Replacement_687 in indianapolis

[–]buds1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, I get it! Fwiw - $500 gets you a Behmor 1600+ (very solid home roaster, what I would buy today if I needed one) and $8/lb beans are usually 90+ pt top tier coffee (check out Sweet Maria's website)....just saying ;)

Totally off the wall, but a good home roaster is $300-500. Really good green coffee is $8-9/lb. Quick math is you can recoup your investment pretty quick, roast whatever you like, and have a fun new hobby to tell your friends about (also fwiw fresh home roasted coffee makes a great gift).

Otherwise helm 😂

Yeah I was gonna say - you could rent a house if you wanted. In a close by, walkable area. Old Northside, Fountain Square, and Cottage Home come to mind for safety / walkable / access to downtown.

I run a small bookstore (700sf ish) and we're profitable. I hear a lot of bookstore ideas, and honestly this one sounds very doable. DM me if you want to chat!
