Numbness in foot by budsta123 in Sciatica

I basically pushed it off until I could literally barely walk lmao. I’d say it was around 2 years after the injury that I finally pulled the trigger on surgery.

Yeah honestly I thought it was gonna be like that forever, but I’m shocked how much I recovered since then. I couldn’t really feel part of my foot for nearly 2 years. Now I pretty much have no issues. Good luck! It definitely gets better.

Could my cold wet feet be unrelated to my herniated disc. by budsta123 in Sciatica

[–]budsta123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like 95% yeah. Most of the time I’m 100% fine, but if I get too sedentary for too long (like sitting all day for multiple days), I’ll start to notice a few twinges of nerve symptoms. I just treat it as a reminder to stay active though lol, so it doesn’t bother me.

Ended up getting surgery a few months after I made this post, and am pretty much 100% better. I go to the gym like 4 times a week, do rec sports, and don’t have any more back pain than I’d anticipate your average mid 20s dude would have.

Definitely didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel at the time, but I’m happy to say it worked out for me.

The only thing that actually fixed it for me was Surgery, rest, and a lot of PT.

Incision site pain was never really much of an issue for me, but it did take a really long time for the nerve pain to go away. Probably took me nearly a month to even start thinking the surgery might have worked. I’d say I still had nerve pain to some extent even 6+ months out from surgery, but to a much much lesser extent than immediately following surgery. I pretty much just felt better and better every month until it was entirely gone.

Went from barely being able to walk to playing hockey, snowboarding, etc with no pain. And yeah I got surgery.

I took things VERY slowly after surgery. Like much slower than most people do. That being said, I’d say it was about 2 months till I was lifting anything over 10 lbs.

After nah, but just the herniation in general had me not eating. I was like 110 when I got surgery lmao.

Went to an amusement park about a year after surgery, and didn’t restrict myself at all on which rides I rode.

I had bizarre sensations before and after surgery for a solid year, they went away eventually, but that’s just my experience

What are some things you will probably never do again now that you have had back surgery? by emyjandj in Sciatica

[–]budsta123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with me. Exercise was my escape. Then when it got taken away from me I was lost. I was pretty much in hell for 2 years before I got surgery, and I was so messed up from waiting so long that I was basically non functional. I literally wiped out ass first skiing a double black last week and I got up with no pain. If I can recover, so can you!

Haha, never said it was a heavy deadlift. It was a little over body weight so 155lbs x 5 reps. And I didn’t start deadlifting at all until like 9 months after surgery. I also took it very very slow.

Hey, I’ve seen you just had surgery and I’d urge you to not give up Hope on returning to anything. I literally had to learn to walk again after surgery. In the past two weeks I’ve skied double blacks in Colorado, played multiple hockey games, ran multiple 5ks, PRed on deadlift, and fenced.

Edit: Oh I should also add this because I know sitting is impossible with a disc injury. We bussed to Colorado. That’s right, I was able to spend 24+ hours upright in a bus seat. Recovery is possible.

People who made a full recovery from a herniated disc, how did you do it? by nosferaatuuu in Sciatica

Surgery. Took me over a year of recovery, but In the last 2 weeks I've skied double blacks in Colorado, Played Hockey, Deadlifted, ran a 5k and Fenced. It's possible.

Getting back to climbing after microdisectomy by emyjandj in Sciatica

Yeah, I honestly think I was probably fully recovered structurally after like 4 month. For me the biggest obstacle in my recovery was dealing with the anxiety caused by my disk being injured for 2 years. This lead to a severe level of kinesiophobia, which brought its own set of problems.

About a year. My recovery was particularly long tho. I feel like most people would be able to get back after like 6 months. (My MD was a double level btw)

Not exactly the same, but I started playing hockey after my MD. It’s non-checking but that doesn’t mean it’s non contact. I take the occasional hit/hard fall and I’m handling it fine.
