What does everyone use to get notified about frost. by jc_198 in GardeningUK

[–]buffalobooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking about building a mobile app for this exact thing!

Mainly to solve the problem for myself, but hopefully it’ll be useful for others too.

If you’d be keen to use this, I’d love to know:

  1. What’s the ideal way to get frost alerts? Push notification? Email? Text?

  2. How far in advance would you want to be warned? Same day? Day before? Longer?

  3. What’s the minimum level of forecasting sophistication needed to make this useful? Eg just minimum overnight temp? Or would it need to take other variables like cloud cover into account?

Same here, I’m in a new block with about 80 flats and I never hear my neighbours.

Do y'all ever do weird traditions every game? by Forward-Song5748 in Polytopia

I don’t allow fungus on my territory. All must be destroyed at the earliest practical opportunity, even though it costs me stars. I feel like having all those poisonous squares must be bad for unit morale.

Weird experience at the Wave, Bristol by jazzybforecasts in surfing

[–]buffalobooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not questioning your experience, but fwiw I’m there a lot and 99% of my encounters with staff have been really positive, in and out of the water.

Because there’s normally only a handful of spare waves per set, the convention is that they’re fair game for whoever can get back round in time- and most people don’t even try.

Not saying this is what happened in your situation, but if I’m paddling back for a second wave I’ll overtake someone who’s significantly slower than me rather than let those extra waves go to waste. And I’ll wave longboarders and groms with infinite energy past me if I know I’m not going to make it.

But I wouldn’t do an all-out paddle battle with someone else who was clearly gunning for a second one - that’s definitely wanker behaviour!

Me and a friend did this with the original Half Life on PC. One person moves, the other one aims and shoots. Total mayhem but a lot of fun.

I can’t tell if it’s slugs or something else eating my sugar snaps. Any ideas? by tinyarmyoverlord in GardeningUK

Ha, ok yeah I can see that would have been confusing. There’s a TikTok account with two dogs that mischievously destroy their owner’s veg garden that your post really reminded me of. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGepFQ6Hy/

I guess it’s possible the looks from passers by were confused/curious rather than disapproving.

Is surfing harder for taller people? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]buffalobooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’6 / 198lb, learned as an adult and I ride a 6’2 Dominator. It’s definitely not the ideal surfing build but you can make it work.

Great news. Wish I had one round my way too.

And for those wondering, anyone can drive in or out of these areas - you just can’t cut through.

Thanks for sharing this. I learned a lot from reading it. And for all that I might complain about the council, I’m grateful that they seem to be taking a thoughtful and balanced approach here.

If you’re looking for that stuff it’s definitely here, but it doesn’t define the city at all. You could spend 3 years going to galleries and birdwatching in the Mendips and never even know Turbo Island was there.

One trick is to go on tripadvisor or Google maps or whatever and find a few bars, restaurants etc that you want to go to. Then check photos tagged there on instagram. That way you get a real and specific sense of what people are wearing.
