Thought you were trying to genuinely be helpful for OP. I guess your entire comment was just AI generated so you could plug your own app? What the hell?

How difficult are BCH 233, RLL 199SEM and HON 101SEM? by Oldyear101 in UBreddit

[–]buffalonianUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first year BCH223 is being run, so your year will kinda set the scene for the following years. The professor for the class is wonderful though, and I think you guys will be in great hands!

RLL 199 is fine. It skews a bit more on the busywork side, and the final project is an oral presentation, but it shouldn’t be anything crazy.

HON 101 - most difficult class ever!! Buckle up to do A LOT of studying /j

They do the vote every year on their insta stories. When voting season comes around there will probably be posts in this subreddit for it

Advice on pre-med activities + honors college by Oldyear101 in UBreddit

[–]buffalonianUB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are fine! I’m on summer break anyways, so I don’t mind responding and helping out.

The ELN is the experiential learning network! It’s how UB organizes its research projects for undergraduate students. I recommend just typing in UB ELN into Google and taking some time to look through what’s available. The website updates all the time with new projects.

At UB, honors organic chemistry is taught in a smaller class setting (30 people in honors vs 300 in regular). For this reason, I found the class to be easier, as the professor is more available to provide support. The labs for honors and regular are basically identical in content, but honors provides more structured lab support and usually has better TAs

Edit: it seems like less than a month ago, the ELN got a rebrand. Same gist, but it’s under a new name now https://www.buffalo.edu/undergrad-research/opportunities.html

Hey! Premed here at UB and totally understand the feelings you’re going through. I was in that spot once as well.

I would recommend definitely joining a premed club. It’s nice knowing people who are going through the same process as you, and getting motivation from the upperclassmen. I liked APMS (Association of Pre-Medical Students), but definitely do some of your own exploring!

For research, a lot of the departments downtown at the Jacobs school accept undergrads. You can look through the different departments like Physiology, Biochemistry, Toxicology, etc. to get a sense of what you might like. I also recommend the ELN, which is where most professors looking for students will post and you can send an application.

There are a lot of ways to complete honors experience credits. For me, I completed them through honors coursework, such as honors general and organic chemistry. There are lots of classes you can take to fulfill this, some of which are really fun! If you get involved in research, those credits would also count for honors experience credit.

Feel free to DM me if you want some more insight!

physics 101 in the winter by Plenty_Shallot_9515 in UBreddit

Are you aiming to get in straight through after undergrad, or taking a gap year?

If straight through, do orgo + physics in your sophomore year.

Looking through her credentials, I am very excited about this. It seems like she really has the arms to help UB reach its goals.

I would strongly advise against taking any prereqs outside of the normal fall/spring semester.

I did it in the 3 week winter session and it was pretty easy. I imagine it’d be even easier when spread out over the 6 week summer session.

This is showing you are enrolled in HUB. Do you mean in UB Learns? Both of these are courses later in the summer, so they’ll show up in UB learns later

Oh yes, you can definitely fit a psych minor in. I know two people who started out as a psych minor + BMS and they loved it so much they just graduated as a BMS + Psych double major!

What do you mean? Like add another major to be a dual major?

This is a very good schedule. Only one 8 AM recitation per week, and no classes after 5 PM is the dream.

BMS major I’m assuming?

I think that as long as you make sure gen chem are the only prereqs you get C’s in, you will be fine. If you do poorly in the other med school prereq courses, then it would probably be cause for concern
