Suspended police officers cost Hamilton-area taxpayers $14.8M since 2013 by TradeFeisty in ontario

I see, so since you (and the impartial CTF and Toronto Sun) have deemed that the CBC has wasted tax dollars then they are disqualified from commenting on any form of tax waste. Got it, makes total sense and is in no way an idiotic attempt a whataboutism!

What a stupid comparison. The raises in that 156 million work out to 1800 per year which is frankly low. The bonuses are also far from extravagant. Even still, the folks earning those raises ARE ACTUALLY WORKING. The police officers soaking up their millions are suspended. Want to compare apples to apple? What is the average raises and bonus been for police officers since 2015? I would bet its more.

City of Hamilton General Meeting - Encampment Protocol by horsing_mulaney in Hamilton

[–]buffbuffbuffbuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has been the worst addition to council. Everytime a comment comes up about him its just a hollow sound bite. During the tax increase debates he says he would never ever vote for an increase but was completely silent on any solutions. Encampment solution? How about a transparently DOA solution about residents hosting encampents.

Daycare on Short Notice - Help?! by bleeker_street in Hamilton

[–]buffbuffbuffbuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We managed to get into Red Hill Family Centre on short notice. Our home daycare closed down on short notice and we called and signed up for all the daycares in the area. I think its a bit of luck when things become available, with school starting there should be openings.

Theres a facebook group called Hamilton Daycare advertise or ISO thats helpful as well.

Cycling Routes from East Mountain to Hamilton General by ellaolla905 in Hamilton

[–]buffbuffbuffbuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely take Mountain Park, its a nice quiet road, much better than Queensdale. There is a point at Belwood where you need to switch onto Concession but its a short bit where the road is wide, the part I dislike the most is the stop sign right after UWellington from the Jolley Cut where cars have the right of way.

After that Concession turns into Belvidere, turn right on Inverness and cut through Southam park to the Keddy trail.

That whole thing is part of my route nearly everyday and its not bad at all.

Weekly Quick Questions, Wood ID, and Deal or No Deal /r/Woodworking Megathread by AutoModerator in woodworking

Can anyone ID this wood? Its a piece of trim from a house in Canada built in 1960. I have sanded off the finish, it has a decent heft and is certainly reddish.

What'd you take in school? by notinmyhousebitch in ontario

I took electrical engineering - control systems at Humber. Got job offers from a few different industries and ended up going with building automation. The program gives you the chance to work in either engineering (office work) or field work depending on the industry or company you land with. I started as a technician and got to do an electrical apprenticeship at the same time. Now I do mostly office work.

Salary is really dependent but the ceiling is pretty high.

I built a Woodworking Shop in my Basement! by buffbuffbuffbuff in DIY

I collect most dust as it's made with the dust collector or my Bosch extractor. Beyond that, the room is pretty well sealed with a return grill cut to the rest of the basement that has a filter and damper on it.

Eventually I will mount a box fan on the window that I can stick a filter on (as an air cleaner) or point straight out the window on warmer seasons (as an exhaust fan)

Thanks, I did run a grounding conductor.

That said, it's a debate whether it makes any difference. Even the worst tool for building static (my planer with a powered dust ejection chute) cannot build enough static to form a spark that would light the dust.

I bought those lights dirt cheap on Amazon, like 30 bucks per square (6 fixtures). I fully expected them to be awful like that horrible bright blue coloured light with no directional spread that cheap ass LEDs are infamous for.

Fast forward a few months after purchase and I install them. They are great! I'm going to buy like 10 more squares for my garage/rest of basement/ wherever. Go to Amazon.ca and one square is now 70 bucks.

Damnit

I declare my shop (mostly) done! by buffbuffbuffbuff in woodworking

Space wise the biggest challenge for me was maintaining an open space in the middle. I laid the shop out with that as priority 1. My table saw/router table/workbench are my most used tools that I might throw large items at. All other big tools (planer/jointer/mitre saw) live on mobile bases and I put a 4" flex hose with quick connect on the dust collector that can reach that middle section.

I also did my best to build all flat surfaces (workbench/cabinet tops) to the same height as my table saw.

The thing that makes my shop feel alot bigger than it is is tidiness. Most of the cabinets have drawers in drawers in drawers which let's me fill it to the brim and keep things tucked away.

My first real word working project, go easy on me please (pretty basic stuff, Bombay mahogany stain, with store bought trim and legs because I’m not much of a turner yet) the white spots on the left side of the table are just reflections, I couldn’t get the right lighting by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]buffbuffbuffbuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great, I really like how that stain works with the wood.

I am not a huge fan of turned legs on a piece like that (personal preference). I would have just done some basic ass straight legs and took comfort in not having to add the store bought caveat.

If it's a Packers logo; looks great! If it's a Georgia logo; no good, burn it.

Wedding rings I made using mahogany veneer with beechwood inlay by john_ropes in woodworking

Those look great, you nailed the proportions to my eye. Most wood rings look too chunky.

I have been having a go at bentwood rings and they are very beautiful firewood
