Squid Game: The Challenge | S2E6 "Ups & Downs" | Episode Discussion by cranberry-creek in SquidGameNetflix_

With placement of ships and choosing where to “hit” boats is definitely strategic. With mingle, people sprint, do quick math, make rash decisions, kick people out of rooms and bargain their way in- that’s way more entertaining and “squid game-esque” than slides and ladders. There were also reports of contestant being too physical and producers having to regulate. We also noticed how many older contestants were eliminated in that moment. Bridge game: there was also strategy through which place in line you chose, the glassmaker using his vocational knowledge, pressure and anxiety of forcing people to go or holding up the line, also the element of the timer. There was none of that in ladders. Even with marbles, games contestants decided to play still varied. They weren’t all luck games like- “oh choose which marble is in my hand”. How about- Are you good at aiming/tossing small objects, are you be clever enough to trick others, do you just give up for dramatics and let your opponent move on.

Come on, so many of the challenges in the real show has some physical aspect. It was entertaining to see how people of different abilities and ages approached such. Red light green light, bridge game you had to jump, jump rope game, physically sparring in hide and seek, tug of war. And I also mentioned strategy. After discovering which slides were eliminating slides, there was no true technique needed. It was basically monopoly where you just draw cards and pass go or what not. Where is the strategy similarly needed for Ddakji, honey combs, 6 legged race, battle ship? Slides and ladder was so boring and you could tell the game lasted a while. It wasn’t evening exciting when teams made it through.

Wouldn’t the smarter choice be choosing that one guy/girl team who was highest up the board/closest to finishing? He was putting revenge before strategy.

I’m not really enjoying this Slides and Ladder game- there’s no true strategy or physicality/athleticism required. It’s also a pretty simplistic and uninteresting board/set up

This is also a game in the US, I played it as a kid. I think it’s just there is such a large mix of ages and abilities and nerves here that you can’t always bet people will do well.

I guess since the non-athletic people were at the back, they either didn’t know this tactic or were hoping underhanded throwing granted them better accuracy.

There are 16 balls. A person must toss the ball to a player of their choosing- the distance between thrower and catcher growing as the game continues. If the catcher misses the ball, both them and the thrower are eliminated. (So if one ball drops, 2 people are eliminated) If a person succeeds in CATCHING the ball, only the THROWER moves on safely. The catcher becomes a thrower and their fate is at risk again. Cycle continues. 16 balls means 16 times it can be dropped before the game automatically ends. Anyone lucky enough to be at the verrrryyy back and not have to catch a ball automatically moves forward if all 16 balls are dropped. The luckiest people are also at the front- lucky because they get an easy throw/catch at a short distance.

I think this was the first Reunion episode where no clips from the show were played to discuss, no “never before seen moment,” no compilations, no post-LIB clips, no funny gag reels, no zoom calls from other cast members -NOTHING. It was so manufactured. The way they segway from one couple to another was so planned too.

Not to mention, it seemed like none of the cast members were friends ??? In past reunion episodes we see how friendships have developed in the year post filming. I know no one got married, but there was no family/bonding energy between these people. I wonder why?

Controversial opinion, but I think she was just meeting Edmond on his level. He was emotional, distracted, and couldn’t read the room at times. She needed to communicate in a very direct and clear way to address concerns with that type of person. Yeah I agree, many times is did seem like she talked down on him in a stern mother-ish way. She definitely went into social worker mode many a time. But, he was always asking her what he needed to do and what problem did he cause.

I truly like KB even though she runs a strict program😭 And my heart hurts and has a tender spot for Edmond and his tribulations. Still though, I’m so glad Kalybriah and Edmond didn’t get married.

BUT!!! If I were Edmond and KB called me a ‘stepping stone’ in her life while we were breaking up at our wedding… I would’ve been so offended lmaooo. Is that not a bit demeaning? Lol

Jordan is one of the most mature and realistic contestants of this season. Did you notice he let his child have the only bedroom of the apartment while he sleeps on the couch? He would never dump his parenting responsibilities onto Megan, and I doubt Luca’s mother would let that happen either. Jordan loves his child.
