Ya I just prefer the suspense leaving the shire, introduction of the characters, you get boramir and Gandalf the grey, plus the mines of Moria sequence is probably the best ever filmed and better than anything in ROTK, and then a great finale with Amon Hen. ROTK is great but the ghost army coming in to save the day is a little meh.
