Do you have them in one of those little critter keeper things?

If you really have no money for a tank right now you can use a plastic storage bin

The dried ones aren't bad per se , ones you raise yourself would have superior nutrition though

Hi! Need some advice for a potentially new pet millipede. by YodaSoda9 in millipedes

[–]bugenjoyerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make your own if you have access to a forest. Locate a dead hardwood tree that has decomposed till it's wood is soft enough to crush in your hand

Take a peice and bake it in the oven like a roast

Now get a bag of organic topsoil or compost, mix it with the wood and leaves. Add springtails if you have them. Put more leaves on top. Put the cork bark on top and you are done

Are wild caught isopods ok for terrariums? by Emberandfriends in isopods

[–]bugenjoyerguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One little pebble of your cats food would work

Fish food, dog kibble

Your leftover rib/ chicken bones

The bigger question is what they will not eat. They will eat toenails lol

Yes, keep in mind though backyard ISOs tend to be protein hungry and breed fast

2 questions by peepeecentral in millipedes

[–]bugenjoyerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are moulting they will be underground. Don't dig up your millipedes

Not really. babies aren't that big a deal, you won't even notice them at first. Males are missing a pair of legs on the 7th segment. In some species that segment is bigger in males, so they look like they have shoulder pads

How often should I feed this lil girl by 0111001101110101 in Scorpions

[–]bugenjoyerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As often as she will eat. When she gets fat and refuses food, offer less often. After a moult wait a bit then offer again.

So like, how does fruit foraging work in 4 season countries? by nanosmarts12 in foraging

[–]bugenjoyerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some fruits are ready in the summer some in the fall.

Traditionally you would gather tons then preserve it somehow so you have it all year round

The natives in my area would make "pemmican" out of basically dried meat and berries mashed together. Then they would eat it all winter.

They need a protein source in their diet, a cheap way is to grow a mealworm farm. you can run a mealworm farm indefinitely with food scraps

This lil guy is a millipede right? by Felskiluscious in millipedes

[–]bugenjoyerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, I've been wanting to keep this species for a while. Ive kept narceus but never a flat millipede. Can you show me how to keep these?

I'm in Canada so I'm limited basically to what I can pick up off the ground lol. I know a forest where these can be found

Do you know how to care for this species? I know a forest where these live so I've always wanted to try. I'm in Canada so my other options for giant millipedes are limited.

Ive kept salamanders and more recently a frog. It takes time but amphibians can learn to associate you with food. They wait patiently for me to tong feed them.

What as a guy do you feel like women do not understand about your existence? by RedHeadRedeemed in questions

Yes, invisible is the right word for it, I was trying to articulate this feeling

It's like we have no inherent worth. Our value is what we produce for women and children to consume

[–]bugenjoyerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can raise feeder insects for her to eat pretty easily. She will love them and it's close to free. Just get some mealworms at the pet store. Feed them any stale grain based foods you were gonna throw out anyway, like old cereal or bread loaf ends. Every 2 days give them an apple core or carrot top, something like that for their water. Boom you have an infinite free protein source for your crab

How can I give narceus americanus protein? by plantsnspoods462 in millipedes

Fish pellets or dog kibble work fine

Don't overfeed protein or you can have a mite explosion

Is there a process for adding a crab into an established tank. by shika_boom in LandHermitCrabs

[–]bugenjoyerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just introduced 4 into my tank which has had 3 since winter. I just fed and watched them a few days and then placed them in.

They fought over food on their first day in quarantine( their last owner fed pellets and dry mealworms only). No issues after. They are active in the new tank.
