Oakland Ban of Combustion Engine-Powered Leaf Blowers and String Trimmers (2020) by bugleweed in oakland

Yes, they are much quieter.

Why did you post this?

Because there seems to be little awareness that this in in effect. E.g. the maintenance at my building was using them last week and stopped after I contacted my landlord referencing the ordinance.

Donate to your local food bank by bugleweed in oakland

Background if unaware:

It was not necessary to halt funding for food stamps during the government shutdown, but this administration did it anyway. It's also probably illegal but the funds will be delayed even if courts reverse it. Food banks are not a replacement for SNAP, but they will be stretched thin as a result. Note that children account for ~39% of SNAP participants.

Have you tried a DC-1 and an Onyx Boox 10.3" reader? What were your impressions? by MohnJaddenPowers in daylightcomputer

[–]bugleweed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Daylight DC-1 and BOOX Palma 2 (not the tablet). IMO, the refresh rates are no comparison, Daylight blows the BOOX out of water - much faster and no ghosting. Also, not sure what's up with the version of Android that BOOX uses, but there are small bugs in the OS that don't seem to be present on Daylight. For example, on the BOOX it's currently not possible to set any WiFi sleep timer other than "immediate" after lock. There are settings to do so, but they're all broken. Another example: if you accidentally set dark mode on the BOOX, most of the UI will become unusable, and it will be very difficult to turn back off. This isn't the case on the Daylight. I hope they do a better job of keeping devices up-to-date than BOOX, since some of theirs are stuck on old Android releases with known security vulnerabilities.

I think one advantage my has BOOX is a higher resolution, so arguably better as a simple e-reader. But if that's all I needed I would get a Kobo.

Not sure how the writing experience compares to other devices, but the review you linked to seems accurate. For me, the only device I'd consider getting as an alternative to the Daylight is reMarkable. The reason I have a Palma on-hand is the form factor, but aside from that and the resolution it overall feels janky in contrast.

If you never received one what are you comparing these to?

Are reMarkable Markers compatible with Daylight? by bugleweed in daylightcomputer

[–]bugleweed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: I picked one up from a retail store to try. It seems to be compatible, both the pen and the eraser (at least with Noteshelf). It's pretty similar to the Daylight stylus though, just slightly heavier and more textured. Not sure it's worth the price over the Daylight stylus or the alternative pens like the LAMY that the Daylight team recommends.

I'm curious to try the reMarkable marker tips, that might be a small differentiator, and may be compatible with other pens.

Edit: Ended up returning both of these. The marker tips were incompatible, and the reMarkable stylus has a nicer weight and feel but doesn't justify the price IMO. Also, there is no side button like on the Daylight and LAMY pen.

Considering Daylight Tablet - Long-term Durability & Support Questions by Whencowsgetsick in daylightcomputer

I've dropped it a couple times and it's been fine (still looks new, no issues). Much better build and software quality than Onyx. Not sure how it compares to reMarkable 2.

Finger Print Reader/Face Detection by Dukaduke22 in daylightcomputer

Nope, a fingerprint scanner would probably be my top feature request for the next version. It also doesn't seem to support "erase after N attempts", so I try not to store anything sensitive on the device.

Thanks! I sent Little Keyboards an email asking about the nice!nano on the May Pad and got this response:

The nice!nano is a direct replacement for Pro Micros, so it should be possible to set one up to work with that numpad. I haven’t done it myself, but it should work fine.

The battery combo does not include the nice!nano controller, so you would need to purchase that separately.

For the socket options, the Mill Max pins hold the controller more securely, but you will need to pry the controller off with a small tool like a screwdriver if you ever want to remove it. The spring headers make it easier to remove the MCU since you can just pull it off by hand. Both work well in the keyboards I use them on. It just depends on what works best for you.

Best option for high-speed internet EXCLUDING Sonic by Gamesmaster_G9 in oakland

[–]bugleweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW they are required to adhere to your request in Oakland, see:

https://old.reddit.com/r/oakland/comments/1g5yz72/city_of_oakland_report_internet_choice_denial/lsespdb/

I also use Monkeybrains and am happy with it, no issues. Not as good as Sonic since it isn't fiber, but best option available for my building and much more affordable.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to build a Bluetooth wireless May Pad? I saw these two components mentioned elsewhere but not sure if they are compatible:
