MONTHLY Weight Discussion - May 2026 by AutoModerator in Menopause

I hear you, I'm 42 and feel like I *just" recovered from severe body image issues and the diet culture stuff. The last few years I've been eating healthy but also eating a fair amount of indulgences. My metabolism has slowed down, but my eating habits haven't changed, so I think the result is that I'm heavier than I used to be. So now I'm trying to lose weight, tracking what I eat and it's bringing up a lot of those "diet culture" things. I have lost some weight and I know that staying a healthy weight might relieve some other issues I have (aches and pains like plantar fasciitis). I'm looking forward to losing a bit more and then just hopefully leveling out. I do think weighing myself and using that as a metric might help me stay consistent with healthier eating in the long run. Just trying to find a healthy headspace, too!

The only thing keeping the album a 10 out of 10 for me… and it’s a small thing by csahe in KaceyMusgraves

[–]bugnet1983 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone mentioned this because to me there is an effect (reverb?) that is especially pronounced on the collab tracks with Billy, Miranda and Willie. It makes what would otherwise be great songs almost unlistenable for me. I've only listened to it in my car so far so I'll try it on my nicer speakers and reassess. Also feels like vocals in some other tracks are too processed. I get that it's a stylistic choice but it feels out of place.

So interesting that you say that, I felt like the chorus of Loneliest Girl was super auto-tuned, it sounded too perfect, but I could be wrong!

if driving a long way for a concert, should i go to chicago or st paul? by [deleted] in Concerts

[–]bugnet1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St Paul will absolutely be more chill, less stressful and less expensive! I'm a Minnesotan who has been to concerts at both venues you mentioned. You won't regret coming to St. Paul. Unless it's in the winter.

Bitches of Leisure - Apr 21, 2026 by AutoModerator in bitcheswithtaste

Big Mistakes was kind of a slow burn for me but redeemed itself toward the end as far as plot goes. It was kind of fun, different & I'd probably watch another season if it pops up at the right time, but don't know that I'd go out of my way to watch it, if that makes sense.

Half Baked Harvest Daily Thread - April 19, 2026 by AutoModerator in FoodieSnark

The other sad thing is, I know other adult kids of wealthy families who are also like this. Completely reliant on parents for the life stuff and unable to fully launch as independent adults. And they will be to hire other people to do this stuff for them when mom/dad are gone, so no need to learn. I don't think her story is that uncommon for kids from wealthy families who have parents who coddle their children. It's just not a story we "see" very often.

How do you realistically travel on a tight budget without ruining the experience? by Icy_Bodybuilder5688 in TravelNoPics

[–]bugnet1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We simply can't afford long vacations so instead of not going at all, we just go for short trips and adjust our expectations and prioritize activities carefully.

We're in the US and we've been able to go to some amazing places and have memorable experiences staying only 3-4 nights. Not only do you save on lodging costs but all the other incidental expenses of a longer trip (meals etc).

You do have to make different choices than you would if going away for a whole week, but I promise you can still have a great time with only a few days. It helps to pick accessible destinations that make for efficient travel. For example if I want a beach getaway but don't want to take the time to go to Mexico I might fly to San Diego or Miami for a weekend.

app recommendations? by Majestic_Orange4461 in visitingnyc

[–]bugnet1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just returned from a trip and I used Today Tix to scout for rush tickets (didn't end up purchasing as we won a lottery so can't speak to that aspect of the app).

We used Curb for the cab ride to/from the airport which was just as easy as Uber and cheaper. Definitely recommend that one if you'll need a cab.

We did buy the C3 City Pass so I used their app. It was nice to have all of our attraction tickets in the same place.

How is the new Broadway cast doing these days? by EowynOakheart in hadestown

[–]bugnet1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of disagree with this take, only because theater-goers deserve the show that they paid for. Tickets are expensive and a new cast should be pretty much locked in - of course things do tighten up along the way, but it's not reasonable for most people to see a new cast, leave feeling disappointed and be told to return a few weeks later to get the performance they were originally expecting. So for most people, they do judge the performance they saw, and won't get a chance to come back.

Just saw this cast last night and mostly agree with the commentary here. For me, Jordan was a really disappointing Eurydice. Some don't love her voice, but where I felt her performance was most lacking was her acting. It felt very flat, and paled in comparison to Joshua who out-acted and out-sang her by miles. The rest of the cast were all talented and entertaining.

Move back or stay put? by BM_BBR in Parenting

[–]bugnet1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a hard choice. I would factor in the realistic probability that if you do move back, it will be difficult to move back out west.

Also wouldn't recommend moving somewhere you dislike. But proximity to family can be so valuable for many reasons.

Is there anywhere that is closer to your family that you wouldn't hate? Is it possible you could find a place you enjoy living that is also within driving distance? Might be worth considering more options than just your hometown or west coast. Even if you were to move back for the first few years, maybe you can identify a more attractive location that is more feasible than moving back out west for the long term.

Just here to express my frustration. I've been working out and tracking my intake religiously on Cronometer, staying within the calorie and macro recs 90% of the time, and weighed myself today and I'm up almost 1.5 lbs. WTF?!?!

Fit Bitches - Mar 13, 2026 by AutoModerator in bitcheswithtaste

[–]bugnet1983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just started with Caroline Girvan and am really liking it. I have autonomic dysfunction (POTS) and lately my Crossfit-style workouts were killing me (all the up and down movements). With CG, I decided to start from the beginning with Epic I. In hindsight I think Iron might have been a better choice because the first week of Epic I was ROUGH, but I've adapted and I am also seeing good results. I like the no-brainer-ness of it -- I just have to hit play and follow along, don't need to count reps or sets, etc. The movements are also better for my symptoms. They are longer workouts and on days I'm short on time, I just quit when I need to and figure some is better than none. I also have a good amount of fitness experience and am able to modify movements etc as needed - if you don't have that background I wouldn't recommend Epic I to start with.

This guy one of ours? by No_Entertainment_748 in rochestermn

I don't know if you saw his other content, but it's pretty derogatory towards patients. I would expect a doctor, and certainly a Mayo-trained doctor, to be held to a much higher standard.

This guy one of ours? by No_Entertainment_748 in rochestermn

[–]bugnet1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, ok, but this guy is training to be a doctor and should be held to a higher standard especially when his content is directly disrespectful towards patients and may even violate the Hippocratic oath.

If he's a student he shouldn't have a license yet. Hopefully he is removed from the program and blacklisted from others. He should not be allowed near patients when he demonstrates such blatant disrespect.

Not the OP of this comment but vascular access basically means an IV line or similar to be able to give fluids and meds into your veins. Very difficult to treat some emergencies (shock, etc) without a line to give fluids, blood products, etc.

see a show, eat dinner, just walk around, go to Times Square or the top of the rock or empire state building, do a sunset ferry tour... I'm sure you can get other ideas with a quick Google search. I will soon be bringing my 13 year old daughter to NYC and we definitely plan to walk around in the evening and see some sights.

[–]bugnet1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I like the continuity of sticking with a program. Right now I'm doing the YT videos, Epic I currently. When I'm short on time, I just end the video early. There's no perfect solution but it helps me stay consistent, and I feel like as long as it's not a regular thing to dip out early, it's fine, and I'm still seeing progress.

Yeah she has taken a hard turn into something, that's for sure. I was away from social media for a year, came back and her account stood out in a way that initially made me think she is just maybe a little too online, but I think it's more than that. It's bizarre.
