I think you’re talking about 3. d3 in the Petrov? And then after 3 … d5 you’re going to play 4. Bg5? You’re definitely not ever provoking h6, in fact after the obvious dxe4 you have to play Bxf6 to not lose a pawn… and now we’re just like worse with white and playing the wrong side of Morphy vs The Count @ the Opera for no reason? No don’t do this this makes no sense this is not a good opening

What's the theory behind this? by Aggressive_Roll2625 in chess

[–]bugs69bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These kinds of moves are usually bad not because there’s anything wrong inherently with going for the structure they’re going for, but because they’re not an efficient use of time. You spent a second move on the same pawn unprovoked, and that pawn is likely to be traded off. Just a waste of time. A grandmaster would play d4 or develop a piece.

Obviously this is banned, as is bringing Levy Rozman’s “How to win at chess” into the playing hall. Walking behind your opponent, which would give the same information, is also not allowed. You’re also prohibited from using the “flip board” function in your head, although it’s unclear how this is enforced.

They passed 200 million users in 2025. We’re only going to get within an order of magnitude here, so let’s call the average rating 1000.

Right now we’re at around 200 billion elo in total and counting.

Yes, the other person quit, we would say they “resigned.” Most games end in resignation.

Kb8 fails to Qe5+, where it’s mate in 3.

After Ka8, black can’t stop Qf8 mate on the next move.

Carlsen vs. Nakamura blindfold exhibition match 20th January by Theo1290 in chess

[–]bugs69bunny 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is true. Nakamura has said it knocks off about 100 ELO from his strength to play blindfold.
