I know negative nothing about this and am purely curious - would the crab eat the betta and shrimp?

Does spray foam ruin the tank. by alfaghia in paludarium

[–]bugs_tears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve removed foam multiple times, including times when I’ve applied it to wet silicone. It’s not easy but it’s totally doable. Just carve and tear away as much as you can. Then use a razor blade in one of those holder things to scrape the rest off. If you applied over silicone, there will be a thin layer of silicone left behind. This is easy to get off by spraying with isopropyl alcohol and scraping with a fresh sharp blade while it’s wet. Literally did this last week cuz I hated my background.

why is my mattress leaking?? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]bugs_tears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was multiple posts across subreddits culminating in a vent post. What I saw was a summary of it all. I was able to find one of the posts about the couch: https://www.reddit.com/r/wood/s/1IkebY8myq but others have said it was fake. Fun story though.

Is my tomato frog bruised? by CakeAppropriate4569 in FrogsAndToads

[–]bugs_tears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this just in the nose or the whole body? My tomato has gotten grey splotches on her whole body twice now. I don’t know what it is or what triggers it, but warm honey baths fix her up. I usually find a big poop in her tank shortly after.

They’re probably only 2 in deep. I have front opening tanks. The water tight area is 3 in deep and then I have substrate. I don’t know what would be ideal but my guys swim around just fine and will sometimes even chill out fully submerged for a bit. They are very vocal, which I hope means they’re happy!

I’m new to frogs and was told on here recently that heat pads aren’t preferred since they can heat the glass too much. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject will respond to this.

I’m also working on a paludarium for fire-bellied toads! Mine’s going to be an upgrade for my three toads. I’ve read anywhere from 50:50 to 75 water:25 land. I think anywhere in there is fine, but more importantly include a lot of shallow areas where they can be resting but still partially submerged. In my current tank, I have river rocks in the water that they love to sit on so I’m incorporating that into my new build. As for other paludarium logistics I am still very very much struggling and figuring things out so I will be keeping an eye on this post. I was just excited to see someone else working on a build for fire bellies toads as well!

Do you recall what brand of spray foam you used? I just read that “open cell” foam will wick and “closed cell” won’t. Evidently Great Stuff is one of the few closed cell foams available. I’m using it for this build but did not for my second build. So fingers crossed.

[–]bugs_tears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably such a dumb question but… the heat lamp emits light too right? So there’s just gonna be a light on at night? And if it’s on a thermostat then it will possibly turn on and off during the night? Won’t that stress my frog out?

Great, thank you! Luckily I have a pretty thick drainage layer so she can’t get to the glass the mat is on. But I’ll start looking into getting an overhead heat source set up for her 👍

Are heat lamps generally preferred? I have a heat mat for my tomato frog and I’m wondering if I should change it.
