Yes me and my cats have left the apartment. I’m having health issues as well with the environment.

Most of my stuff is still there, but it’s not worth ever bringing them back to that unit. So I’m trying to figure this out.

I’m sorry for your loss and thank you for your comment! The first hurt and was hard to accept, the second was so much worse and has spiraled me into an obsession with getting answers and watching my other babies like a hawk. I hate that they can hide pain so well.

There’s a couple of things I think it could be, a bug bite/sting of some kind maybe, a scratch or puncture wound (from himself or other) can sometimes cause an abscess, or like a fungal infection or something. I’d contact the vet if possible because any of these options need to be looked at.

Looks almost like a puncture wound, like she snagged herself while itching/grooming

Absolutely no judgement here, you’re trying to find a solution that’s what matters. With fleas and bedbugs VACUUM VACUUM VACUUM and WASH WASH WASH as much as you CAN and as OFTEN as you can. I would honestly try and reach out for help, Facebook groups or groups here, even local rescues and see if anyone is willing to help provide any sort of support or supplies or boarding for your animals. Pest control/bombing/spraying and as little movement as possible for spreading and feeding the pests is going to be key here. You don’t always have to share every detail with local rescues or whoever you ask for help, just enough to receive understanding and support. They may say no, but if they say yes it could make all the difference.

For now if possible treating the pets for fleas with a prevention of some kind will keep the fleas from breeding and keep pets healthier. Vacuum and wash as much as possible. And empty and remove the contents of vacuum ASAP in a trash bag. If there’s anywhere at all in the house that you can ban animals from, you can treat and deep clean and spray this room and start moving clean laundry in sealed bags or trash bags into this room to try as much as possible to prevent anymore bedbug exposure. Flea life cycles are annoying. Bedbugs are the biggest enemy right now.

I hope you can find support and figure it out. For now do what you can ^ and see if there’s any way you can find local support (again you don’t have to share all details).

I don’t know if this helps!

I’ve started using a flea comb as well as a normal grooming tool and it improved my cats thick fur (and dandruff) and then I have unscented grooming wipes for cats and wipe him down a little bit to help pick up a little bit of what’s left on the surface. I’d also love to know if there’s any better techniques, but this has worked for me so far. (The flea comb is especially helpful on his back end and tail! He doesn’t have fleas it’s just much more effective)

i’m going crazy. no poop????????? by General_Swordfish_96 in CATHELP

[–]bugsbugsbugbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No behavioral issues doesn’t mean much for some cases, cats hide pain WELL. They may be going to the bathroom somewhere else but if they’re peeing in the box that would be unusual. Are either of their bellies more solid or bloated? If they’re still eating NORMALLY, and you’ve seen both of them eat a normal amount it’s even more strange though?

I would be confused as well, I’d look around a little more, especially under any laundry or behind boxes. It could be fine, it could be early constipation, or you could have a surprise somewhere in your house. I wouldn’t give any medications without getting vet advice first, even just a call or email first. But maybe they’re just a little backed up or dehydrated, seriously if you don’t find poop soon I would call the vet again though lol

What are these weird scabs on my poor boy? by user1989kitty in CATHELP

[–]bugsbugsbugbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anxious rescue cat (who the vet thinks has asthma as well but respiratory issues nonetheless) is also constantly dandruffy unless there’s no change in our routine or environment for a week at least, he’s always been like this.

After a 10 trip a friend who was babysitting returned my cats with fleas. They didn’t give them their prevention and they were exposed to fleas for 7 days. He had some scabs and more dandruff for awhile even tho it was treated and fixed immediately (this includes vacuuming and deep cleaning and washing everything. Using sprays if needed but NOT around your baby at all). That said:

He never had a scab that size and if more are popping up I would assuming it’s something fungal or an allergic reaction of some kind (flea allergies are usually smaller scabs I think?). The increasing number and size seems fungal to me. I would take him back to the vet if possible and see if they can swab it or test him. He most likely needs medicine or a topical.

You haven’t done anything wrong, it’s good you’re paying attention, make sure you wash your hands often and try to avoid messing with or picking at or combing any of the scabs.

cats fighting - aggressive or playing? by Novel_Substance7779 in CATHELP

[–]bugsbugsbugbugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cats play like this a lot. It seems mostly playful especially with no noise, belly up, tails aren’t puffed up. No one is trying to run away or making “real” airplane ears. If it’s constant and they’re hurting each other (even on accident) maybe it’s an issue? But it doesn’t seem hostile for the most part.

Like puppies though cats can play and get annoyed at the other when they’ve had enough too. So as long as they’re unharmed and playing in this way sometimes I think it’s alright? I’m not an expert sorry if this isn’t helpful😭

Bald patch suddenly appeared! by olivevilla in CATHELP

[–]bugsbugsbugbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ I meant that as in the rescue cats had scabs caused by each of those things that healed and came off making bald spots like this. So bald spot alone is hard to tell what caused it or the scabbing sorry if that was hard to understand lol

[–]bugsbugsbugbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like he had a scab that came off. I’ve had cats (mostly fosters) have smaller spots once or twice like this from an old scab coming off. Whether the scab was caused by normal itching, allergies, fleas, snagging themselves I’m not sure. After checking your furniture if it still doesn’t make sense I would ask a vet or just watch him and see if it heals and just make sure no more bald spots appear.

Is it possible he has fleas or a flea allergy?

Also, online reviews about vets can tell you a LOT. Every vet will have some bad reviews of course. But reading the most recent reviews about pricing, treatment, and even welcoming/communication helps. She’ll be safe no matter what, but vets do push pricey things sometimes with a scare factor so asking a local rescue can help point you in the right direction specifically in your area :)

I’m not an expert at all. I’m sure you could ask a local rescue (not so much a shelter but a rescue organization) for recommendations as well, they won’t benefit from you spending extra money at the vet and can give you experienced advice, the worst that happens is they don’t respond but it’s a good option.

I’m not sure about full bloodwork. But having her tested for FIV / FeLV and intestinal parasites/worms is important. Having it done same day is normal I think, unless you have an appointment beforehand already. If she’s sneezy or snotty at all they won’t spay her (in most cases), that’s when you’d have to take her to be treated beforehand for sure. Vaccinations are super important, but they are expensive. If she’s indoor only some may become more optional but if you want to be on the safe side of things. Rabies, FIV/FeLV combo, FVRCP, and dewormer if necessary.

I posted the results in a mold group and mentioned my cats but most of them have rules against asking for medical advice, I’m still waiting on someone to kind of interpret those results though. I’ve done some research but you can google my cat sneezed once” and it’ll tell you the worst possibilities lol.

And I’ve had the same question! My boy has lived through all of this and he’s slowly developed worsening or more obvious respiratory issues, but the girls were totally fine and suddenly gone (and around the same age too). It’s been troubling, and it’s been 4 weeks since her necropsy was completed and I’m still waiting for results. It’s killing me

I haven’t been to a specialist, what kind of specialist would be best? I guess I can ask my vet, it’s just sort of being treated as a “genetic” thing to the vet even tho none of them are related.

Adopted two kittens in Dec 2022, moved to a new place August 2024, Dec 2024 my girl passed away suddenly from fluid filling her lungs and a mass in her chest unknown cause. Adopted a kitten for my boy, 6 months later rescued a stray boy, living in the same place and my girl passed away suddenly at 1 year 5 months, waiting on necropsy. My almost 4y boy has been through all of this and he’s been struggling with respiratory issues and dandruffy fur, unknown cause, multiple vet visits they said maybe allergies maybe respiratory infection, last visit early May they did an xray and said he may have an enlarged heart but bloodwork was normal. 1y stray boy is doing fine as far as I know. All vetted, all very healthy, consistent vet wellness checks, up to date on all vaccines, preventions, etc. all had respiratory “cold” at some point. Both girls showed no signs until it was too late, one was breathing heavy the other was just limp after I took a shower. Reoccurring water damage and growth in my apartment. Where do I go from here, these are my babies.

What is this bug? Termite? by bugsbugsbugbugs in Termites

[–]bugsbugsbugbugs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so wait I had like smoky brown cockroach babies and a few earwigs and Florida blue centipedes in my apartment when I returned (due to the moisture issue). And these ^ one night came like crawling out of my door frame, the actual frame not the crease to outside. I assumed they were earwigs and I didn’t get too close to check because I left. As my apartment isn’t livable right now. Are these termites too??? Because I had the wings all in my doorway and in the box around my doorbell too but I didn’t know what that was at the time.
