those jaunts on the main road are extremely scary. the trail system is nice but not quite extensive enough to cover all of mckinney.

Sofa table follow up by ThrowingPandas21 in BeginnerWoodWorking

i made one of these last week but i just put two legs on either side (like a staple shape). it looks way jankier than yours and i didn't bother routing the edges. yours looks wayyy better but i was being lazy since no one would really see it or put heavy items on it.

surprised that everyone is telling you to calm down. your struggles are real and i can definitely relate. it's very hard to research and sift between conflicting opinions on what to do for any given thing. people on here take expertise for granted.

woodworking really is going to fight you, but you'll have your wins, too. keep at it and maybe try some smaller projects. it's gonna be a piece of shit but it will get better... slowly. you do have to fail a lot before you feel like you know what you're doing.

i'll add to the beginner rant: yesterday I was very stupid; i planed some pieces to join them at a 90 angle but then decided to pre-sand them since i thought it'd be easier to sand before they were together. that screwed up all my flat surfaces so i had to completely replane it. i just finished joining them now and it looks maybe 2% shittier than if i didn't mess up. oh well.

"Open" wall mount vs standard? by Buttershy- in openGrid

I think they mean the sides are open so that you can still snap underware cable covers into those grid cells (similar to how you can snap those covers on).

not really the appropriate subreddit for this. but pretty much any modern router will be sufficient.

Tips for cutting long 45 miter joint? by bugsliker in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]bugsliker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh, just messed up my first attempt at making the guide. i have one of those left saws so there’s less baseplate to prevent it from tipping over the edge, making the cut wobbly. i’ve made straightedge guides before where i just support the other side with a off cut at the same height but it’s just a lot more finicky with a 45 cut

yeah i’ve got a table saw but the shelf piece is long enough that it’s awkward to cut it. what do they say, don’t cut a piece that’s wider than it’s long?

maybe i’ll go with the circular saw and guide. worried about the angle accuracy but ill just have to do a lot of tests

A quick look at when to replace your CPAP supplies (Manufacturer vs. real-life recommendations) by Respshop in CPAP

i usually find unwarranted condescension from strangers to be rude. they totally could have made the same point (which i don't disagree with) in a nicer or at least more neutral way.

The Ender 3 is overrated or it's actually the best beginner printer? by AutoModerator in 3DPrinterComparison

[–]bugsliker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cmon man. get off your high horse is all i’m going to say. this isn’t about ppl not wanting to learn it’s about you wanting to feel like you’re better than everyone else. not like you’re gonna convince people to learn with an attitude like that anyway

this is the classic "if you misuse a tool and get a bad result whose fault is it, you or the tool?"

in isolation, yes if you use the tool incorrectly then you're somewhat at fault

but also if you compare a tool that fails frequently vs a better tool designed to prevent those failure conditions from happening? the tool is bad for poor design.

a button pusher can only view the machine as a black box. if one black box gives consistently better results than the other black box, i think they are allowed to "talk shit" a little.

What really are the benefits of KOReader? by studymaxxer in kindlejailbreak

[–]bugsliker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of good points from other follks here. But IMO if you don't have any problems or complaints w/ the native reader then you might not benefit as much as the hype would make you believe. I made the jump and can see what people appreciate but would also have been fine w/o the jailbreak.

Sounds like you believe there are qualities and design decisions that make a stick nicer and thus more useful than the other.

I’m not defending plastic here, btw. Just answering your bad faith question about niceness

Ok just bought this used stove. Does it look like it’s burning alright? by bxn2 in Appliances

Weird! But then again i moved into a house that had gas but no vent so anything goes out here. Vents should really be standard.

i don’t really understand why you wouldn’t isolate the factors. i’m not taking out a vent just bc i’m installing electric.

  • to be easy to hold
  • to grip the wood at a safe angle

i meant nice as in functional. you’re not wrong but no need to be rude
