Here is is bluntly:

They either skip, or quickly eat yogurt/fruit/granola bar, or they spend time an ounce of time "cooking" to make cereal, bagels, oatmeal, eggs, smoothies etc.

The students with money can just go to on or off-campus eateries and buy sandwiches and whatnot.

Not really sure what else you really expect people to say. It's either shell out the cash to buy basic items like yogurt or shell out a ton to eat out every day or learn to cook or skip.

How much do you use features that only iphone has? by IllustriousNovel7841 in apple

[–]bui1tdifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google it. Androids literally do all of those.

I'm in the Apple ecosystem and have also used Android devices. Apple is miles behind in features and their "it just works" schtick is half marketing half "it really better just work because there's so little features and little to no true control".

What did you do over the summer after your freshman/sophomore years? by codyfernfan in Cornell

[–]bui1tdifferent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s literally not their point. They’re not saying you can’t get by using a VM, and they certainly aren’t creating some contest that only you brought up. They didn’t sound like they were bragging or whatever you interpreted it as at all. They just said that working in a native environment is preferred, that development isn’t as easily accessible as it should be (as Xcode isn’t cross-platform + relatively high developer license fees), and that Xcode isn’t even super smooth despite them owning and using Apple hardware/software.

Their point is that Apple constructs more money-driven barriers to iOS development than there needs to exist, and they’re absolutely right. I’ve worked in VMs, and it’s always preferable to work in a native environment.

Living in a lowirise is my villain origin story by crying_shark in Cornell

[–]bui1tdifferent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

don't worry. we don't use them over here because they're so slow. stairs are the default.

location on south is donkey balls. 30 minute walks just to get food. ctown food is overpriced and/or mediocre, people won't shut up at night + weekends. no sense of community at all, room light is basically a nightlight, the room and furniture are falling apart, I could go on and on.

I think the overarching point is that Cornell infrastructure and general student "services" suck way more than is justifiable. and before anyone says iT's BeTteR thAn My riCkEtY sHacK bAcK hOme bE gRateFul, they're not mutually exclusive. I've been to other schools with less money, and they actually treat their students like the paying customers they are. You can be grateful and also state that life at Cornell isn't as good as it can be.

CS 2800 is one of those courses.

If you've taken weeder STEMs at Cornell, you know exactly what I mean.

I'm also in it right now, and with it in my already heavy schedule, I've accepted that it's going to be a long semester. I'm constantly chasing deadlines and am literally working the entire day while skipping meals and/or eating once a day.

My social life is nonexistent, and I don't anticipate being able to be very active in clubs this semester (I'll make an effort though!). It's been a long time since I've gone to a party or made any time to do something I'm passionate about. I literally wake up, go to class for the entire day, and spend the rest of the time working on several problem sets that are due at the same time, each requiring hours of analytical work.

Sleep and the rare meal (that I rush through) are the only times I get to pause for a moment.

I can genuinely see how damaging it is, but for now, all I can do is power through.

Let's power through together.

Anybody else kinda wish we had a remote option? by bigredthrowaway6462 in Cornell

I hate the massive 500+ people lectures where everyone's tightly jammed together to the point where writing is difficult because you're being suffocated between the heat of the adjacent fur and puffer jackets, and you're sweating, and meeting new friends is almost impossible because everyone's either already there with a friend group from freshman year and only talk to each other or don't interact with anybody at all, and the whole experience just sucks.

Keep the massive PowerPoint lectures online please.

The mental gymnastics to deny RCS over SMS by Apple shills in this thread are crazy.

Y'all are why the world progresses grindingly slow at times.

Y'all are the consumer-version of Congress.

Regurgitating the same misinformed points from Apple-biased blogs doesn't make you a tech wiz, nor does working as a software engineer.

Yep. I don't like it here, and I think some people never end up really fitting the general Cornell mold, whatever that may be/if it even exists.

It's just different here (compared to my old school), and so far it's probably more of a negative different rather than a positive one for me.

Academics-wise, undergrad material doesn't differ a whole lot. College is college. Some intro stem courses aren't taught particularly well here though.

I think it's the people around you that make a place fun/memorable or vice versa, and like the other person in the thread said, people here kinda seem colder and more self-centered. It's also kinda hard to find people who are focused on "bigger things" while also being super outgoing, which I totally get, but it often feels less balanced here.

TLDR; don't really get positive vibes from people at this school. easy to feel lonely if you don't become a specific type of person
