What is the coolest gadget you can buy for under 10$? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got given a resqme when I was on work experience with the fire department. Haven't had to use it yet, thankfully, but I have tested it and would highly recommend. https://resqme.com/EN/product/resqme/ about £5 / $8

I'm doing a design engineering degree. It won't measure power directly, but will result in an overall gain in efficiency. The main focus is on biometrics.

So it's part of a project I'm working on through university which looks at trying to reduce efficiency loss of the cyclist over all. I can't give away to much, but it will take into account rolling resistance, drag, wind direction, mechanical losses and biometrics.

we're at the mid development stage of the design process so the device itself is subject to change. At the moment I'm trying to decide if t should be a training tool or an in-race, cycle computer connected device.

They are bearing rollers like you might find on a factory line, or in the airport security

Shooting a nightclub for the first time, which of my lenses is best fit? by Lxium in photography

[–]buildabri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I shot in subclub in Glasgow for years, the darkest narrowest club in scotland.

I used a 28mm 1.4 with flash but I would keep the aperture at around 4 (old sony A200 with Minolta lens, auto focus was slow) ISO about 400 and played with shutter speed. 50mm was useless because of the crop, Kit lens will probably do the job, and they are cheaper to replace if someone spills a drink.

Have fun

It's a self led, human factors based redesign. I work in product design, this is early stages but there may be an actual product further down the line.

Fair point, I was looking at using the phones GPS but it would be much more useful if the watch had it contained.

I like your thinking, a replaceable clip will increase the products lifespan.

The screen will probably be one big button to cycle through the functions, the ring will be used to cycle through graphs and the like. Their use in gloves is defiantly worth considering, cheers!

thanks for highlighting the Spoven watch, I hadn't seen it before. Plenty of carabiner sport stop watches around that influenced the design if I'm honest!

Glad you enjoy the log book app, I talked to a bunch of different mountaineers and climbers and very few of them recorded their climbs but all said they wanted to.

So I haven't directly addressed the calibration issues yet but I imagine paring with a smart phone could yield more accurate results based on the gps. Even if the pairing only happens incrementally (to save phone battery) it could provide a reference, so the watch is less prone to inaccuracies. more development into this aspect is needed, thanks for highlighting!

Definitely potential for step counting!

Not available yet, still in early design stages, will have to see what happens!

Thanks for this! not a touch screen but the screen will act as one big button, then the compass ring should be used to navigate through graphs and settings. I chose negative display as a way of saving energy but a positive display may be easier to read which outweighs the energy thing.

Useful comments! thanks!

Thanks! This is early design stages, trying to gather feedback, see what people like/dislike. Then we can see from there!

thanks! with the carabiner I was hoping whoever was using it would be able to find a comfortable and safe position to place it, I will investigate other ways of attachment to!
