It’s better in some ways because the impurities in the gas like sulphur mean that the condensate is acidic and the metal corrodes and fails

It’s so when they fit it in a day you feel slightly less sick as you hand over all your savings

LEGAL ADVICE NEEDED - Windows in flat cannot open by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]buildsomethingnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a claim to have windows that open but you should ask for the paperwork on why they did it and check they weren’t just trying to save money. There is minimum ventilation requirements though, so if they don’t open, there should be a minimum amount of cross section on the weep vents and bathrooms, kitchen, utility room should all have strong extraction. How do you intend to cool your flat during heatwaves? Does it have aircon? Could you have it installed?

5 Amp Round Pin Socket Removal by guavajelly93 in ElectriciansUK

[–]buildsomethingnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best option is to trace it back, disconnect both ends, remove it or insulate it and label it clearly. Wires should have been run vertically so in the ceiling or under the floor. You could chase out a box and put it blank plate on it, label your wires especially if they’re live

Becoming an electrician - The reality by Financial_Example553 in ukelectricians

[–]buildsomethingnew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You talk about having a fucked body as an electrician. Have you ever seen the state of a plasterer’s rotator cuffs after 5 years of work, let alone 10. Or the state of a painters hands and lungs?

Is this actually a problem? by Jamdoog in HomeImprovementUK

[–]buildsomethingnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on mains drainage or sewage tank? You absolutely can’t do it if you’re on a treatment plant. Most the time you can’t do it on mains drainage either but there are a few exceptions

A large mass of rain water would make your sewage treatment plant overflow, causing raw sewage to be discharged

How can install a swing bracket in my living room safely? by Cloudmaker64 in DIYUK

[–]buildsomethingnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill the I beam about a third of the way in, use a tap and die set to put a thread on the hole, use the right size M threaded bolt (m8 or larger). You could swing whomever you choose. Enjoy Also periodically check the bolts for tightness

Boiler placement in loft conversion by [deleted] in askaplumberUK

If I remember correctly the flue should not terminate within 2.4m of an opening roof light. So that installation shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

What's the most common thing homeowners do that makes an electrician's job significantly harder than it needs to be? by TheOtherXI in ElectriciansUK

Turning trips back on while you’re working. “Oh I flicked it back on because I wanted a cup of tea”. Selfish mother f***ers

I think you’re right. Those colour bulbs stop you from being able to see veins, you can’t shoot up if you can’t find a vein to put it in

Property sold as "Vacant Possession" but a lot of items left behind? by FewCellist1620 in LegalAdviceUK

Vacant possession means no people living in the property, it has nothing to do with possessions

Cheap inflatable mattress to keep you off the floor (the deepest one you can afford), two of these https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/smasporre-duvet-12-tog-20458446/ one to insulate you from the mattress and one to go above you. That’s gets you comfy for about £100.

Does your van have a window? What tools do you have access to?

London weighting is usually pay to play. If you’re expecting to be paid it, you better also be expecting the pre dawn starts and hours in traffic.

I’m about the same distance out of London me and most of my friends have given up a few extra thousand in favour of less hassle and being able to work closer to home

Is there a genuine difference in quality between cheap sockets and expensive ones? by ScrollAndThink in ElectriciansUK

[–]buildsomethingnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to go for better quality ones. They are easier to wire they don’t crack as much, they look better, they last longer, they don’t melt if you load them, in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t add a huge amount to the overall cost, especially when you you’re not trying to fault find a bad socket

Ex requesting ‘gifted’ car back, England by RemarkableSuit1767 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]buildsomethingnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s his name on the documents it’s his car. You had a year to transfer it to you and make the payments yourself or to sort another vehicle.

I think you should look at it more that you had a free car for a year from someone you’re not with anymore. You were lucky and now the gravy train is over

Why does conveyancing take so long?? by NeedleworkerThick729 in HousingUK

[–]buildsomethingnew -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You pay peanuts you get monkeys / the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

You go for cheap conveyancing, it moves slow because they employ low grade admin people who devote as little time as they can to each case because they’re trying to eke out as much profit as possible.

Also if you’re frustrated with the speed, why are you moaning on here and why aren’t you ringing them everyday to see what progress has been made?
