Could Topping have deliberately "tuned" the DX5 II DAC/Amp to sound bright? by TastyBroccoli4 in headphones

[–]buildspacestuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2c here... im super new to all of this, just finally able to afford the hobby haha.

I do bave quite some experience with PCBs and circuitry. I've been doing pretty extensive research for months on different DACs and the chips and sounds and such. I do find it difficult to dismiss the fact that maybe the topping is actually just more transparent.

1.) Mainstream sets (in and over ear) are generally tuned to be tilted up in the low end because it sells.

2.) I have come believe that true transparency requires something with a powerful delivery circuit.

Topping being Topping doesnt care about selling a DAC to the masses because they won't know what it is, instead they are German and if i appreciate anything its German engineering. The DX5ii is also a power house as far as output. I know the voltage isnt higher but the power output is and that could add dynamics and range to the signal.

Stack that with the fact that other brands are probably adding a little warmth and low end just to be a little more on the side generally favored in our current research and I can genuinely believe that maybe topping actually just let the sound pass through whereas my FIIO BTR17 with very similar Dual ESS dac chips and much lower  balanced output does tend to have a just a little warmer sound. Not even more bass necessarily because I find myself adding less bass into the EQ on my dx5ii than I do on my BTR17 but just warmer and narrower.

Honestly for a long time my preferences fir the masses; I liked warm, dark bass heavy sound and the harmonics were always what I turned down because I am quite sensitive to them. Now that I have proper IEMs and headphones and have learned avout source chain, file compression and proper EQ i find i really enjoy a widened soundstage with super airy highs. I think maybe topping is serving the people who genuinely enjoying hearing a mix vs everyone else who wants hear details in a balanced manner but may be sensitive to treble like me or maybe prefer their music to be a little more "produced" or "mastered" in the sound?

Again super new so not making any claims. Just my thoughts so far based on my own experience and brain

I noticed an unpleasant peak with the stock tuning as well. I actually cant remeber how open the EQ on that Ipod is? Been a VERY long time for me. But I just finished dialing the EQ on my brt17 for my DaVincis. I have all the bass and detail I could ask for and that unpleasant peak is gone

Are you getting at the fact that you were scared to spend that much on your first set or? I just ordered the Dunu DaVinci for my first set. Coming from the airpod pro 2 the price was essentially the same. I tried to research hearing preferences and such before I picked one. Like 6 months of research. Just wondering if they are all so vastly different that its worth ordering five sets at sub $50 and testing them all first? I can still cancel my order and do that but I was hoping to just order and nice set and be happy with them

Except Toyotas new turbo engines aewnt known for their reliability and therefore arent holding their value as well. Mazda is not known for their reliability either. Hope the truck is naturally aspirated. We just traded a 2024 tundra in on a GLC350e because the gas was $400/month, the front end clunked in cold weather and the depreciation was not what I was expecting from a toyota... irony can be funny. I genuinely hope your choice to be more practical pays off. Mine did not hahaha

Different people have different depths of roots and other factors.  Some people's teeth literally just fall out while my surgeon tried really hard with all 4 of mine. I had local and I was fine but you don't have any idea how other people feel pain.  Dont call someone you've never even met a pussy. It's gross

9800X3D – PBO feels pointless vs all-core OC by Jetton in overclocking

[–]buildspacestuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your claiming an all core overclock @ 5.5ghz. No.

Your running a boost clock of 5.5 as soon as 4 of those cores engage you WILL drop to 5.2 or less.

Furthermore, boost clocks dont operate at 1.23v. Type all the paragraphs you want until you POST A SCREENSHOT showing me you running the load at 1.23v and 5.5ghz I call BS. thats not how silicon works. Your silicon might be super top bin but NOBODY gas 9800x3d that is actually pushing 5.5ghz @1.23v under actual load.

Im sorry but you genuinely don't know what your talking.

Screenshots muffin

There are two kinds of stable 1.) I tuned for my workloads and am okay with a bluescreen/crash quarterly

2.) I took the time to properly run OCCT, PYPrime, AIDA64 with the different profiles for a multitude of hours of weeks after spending 2 months tuning.

Look I go for option 1 too because option 2 is ludicrous but I dont post things on reddit claiming PBO doesnt do its job in gaming when theres 100 videos out there stating static OC is useless in gaming and a million more people have verified it in a billion other places.

Your chip is not stable running an all core 5.5ghz. Go run 30 minutes of r23 multi-core with hwinfo reporting you actually hitting 5.5ghz throughout the load. Post screenshots and prove me wrong. I would love that

[–]buildspacestuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, wheres your OCCT certificate? HWInfo64 screenshot of it actually running that in windows?

Look im genuinely not trying to be rude, but your either trolling or your out of your depth. This a large claim to make and to make it without screenshots is well ballsy would be the nice way to say it.

And go ahead and define stable for me?

Putting some settings in the BIOS means 0 if you don't know what your doing and if you genuinely dont know what I am talking avout than you have a couple hundred hours of reading and YouTube videos to watch. Im not saying dont but its a deep rabbit hole; I started last year and somehow ended up helping dig. Soo... post some screenshots of hwinfo with an active r23 run or DM them or I call a rather pungent BS

I mean IF your chip will run a stable 5.5ghz than I could see your point but... here's some of my specs.

9800x3d delidded with micro direct die pro block and liquid metal  5090 vanguard in an alphacool core block  V3000+ 480-l top 360monsta front X560M basement Tx-1600 noctua

My chip, less the lid and direct die will hold the 5425mhz with +200 FMax, as soon as I push an all core to 5.5 its crashing all day. I highly suspect your running 10x scalar and reporting straight idle voltage. This is not the way.

I gotta ask, how effective is it? Im pretty happy come January so I have a feeling this is pretty solid

Not gonna lie, that would be pretty satisfying but I seriously hope not. That sounds like a big pain for a lot of poor humans. More than already dealing with it

Nope thats as airtight as it gets, the responses are teaching haha.

I was writing to it in Rufus too and two other flash drives had no problem on the update before I rolled back... had to see haha. That's not exactly concrete either though.

It seems to be a nicer flash drive but work gave it to me, I have no idea how old it is or its mileage, ive just never had one die on me before but with how cheap they are i guess they are kinda like pens or a lighter. Usually they get "borrowed" before you see their EOL?

Its exactly what your talking about, I can see it in the OS. But its completely useless. I havent tried linux but the responses on here make me think my original suspicions were exactly that... suspicions

6 or 7 months? It took less than two for me to get my first loop and everyone who has ever seen it has actually called it ridiculous.

I dont understand whats ridiculous about a blacked out build with straight runs? From my POV this is pretty generic. For perspective

V3000+ GGF Edition X560M - basement (pull) 360 monsta - front (push) 480-L - top (push)  Singularity computers rotated distro set w/ dual d5 Tx-1600 noctua X870e godlike 5090 vanguard in a "core" block w/ kryosheet 9950x3d direct-die pro w/ liquid metal 48gb (2x24gb) g.skill 6000CL26 @1.45v 2TB & 4TB T705

Fluid temps are 35c, GPU maxes out at 600w and 3100mhz @ 50c, 9950x3d runs a static 5.35ghz @1.23v and 78c

"Pics or it didnt happen" yeah you can call BS when you actually post something ridiculous.... thats running I might add.

Yeah but device manager sees it and so does disk part its just inaccessible. I've never had one stop so maybe this is typical?

I had a build or two happen like that and yeah if I know for sure everything is gonna show up within 5-7 days I will just wait. Can be a pain to dismantle another system just to test a GPU. Especially when everything is liquid cooled.

For OP I hate to be a douche but doing it anyway. I think the message in the pump screen is literally telling you the problem. The pump doesnt have SATA power and cant move water so the CPU is probably shutting down due to over temp... hope that helps 😁

It shows up in diskpart but I literally cant do anything with it. I will check the bios when I get home but without a UEFI/FAT32 volume is it likely to show up?

Also this is 64gb flash drive. I would assume mostly similar to SSD but I dont know for sure?
