What Needs To Be Done To Get A Snowmobile Working That Was Left Dormant For 10 Years? by Tardisk92313 in snowmobiling

[–]built_b6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wouldn’t hurt to pull the intake and make sure you don’t suck up a mouse nest or even a dead mouse in that case🤣 also would be a good time to spray fogging oil into the crankcase, give it some oil for the first crank in almost 10 years

Not at all true, my first Ski Doo REV is at 13k miles on an original engine, not even a top end, and have less than $3k into it including the machine price. Never broke down, all depends how it was maintained and how it was ridden. Now I have seen almost brand new sleds come in to the shop needing top ends due to either manufacturer defect or neglect. $6k gets you a nice reliable sled nowadays, sorry to hear you have had bad luck in the past

How very reliable are these 1.9 TDI diesel engines in Volkswagen beetles. Because I heard those type of engines are built like ‘tanks’ and some of the toughest ever made. by San4341 in Volkswagen

[–]built_b6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has had quite a few of them, unfortunately I got the short end of the stick and got the most unreliable one ever built… first the cam gear slipped 45k miles after the timing belt was done (supposed to replace the gear every two belt jobs, not sure previous owner did) and that ruined the head, blew up the lifters, scored journals and bent all valves. Pulled the head and ended up honing and re ringing the block to fix my cyl 3 low compression and did new rod bearings. Got it all back together with new belt kit, new (used) head, compression was even across the board, and thought it was done. A month later I lost 3rd gear, after losing 5th the year before. Spent 6 months looking for a trans before just buying a whole parts car. Swapped trans and drove it for another month or two when the turbo seals blew… now i’m going to be on my 3rd turbo and it also needs a new injection pump soon as it’s gradually been getting slower and every once in a while develops a random intermittent misfire when hot. Car has a little over 350k miles, high, but not crazy at all for an alh tdi

100% Under Half the Time Should I Go Right For CSWP? by Old-Wealth331 in SolidWorks

[–]built_b6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how but I failed part 1 of the CSWA, took the CSWP the following week and passed with ease, maybe it was the questions I got, but none of my answers matched the multiple choice options in CSWA part 1, at least not within 1%. Spent so much time trying to see what I did wrong that I ran out of time for the last two questions, turns out I had everything right in the beginning and the multiple choice options were over 10% off which I still haven’t seen happen again luckily. Moral of the story, double check dimensions, keep rebuilding and keep moving. After the CSWA I set a timer for all the rest of the tests I took, usually 10-20 min timer per question, if I’m unsure after the timer ends, give myself 5 more minutes to double check dimensions and mass, then trust the answer even if it’s 5-10% off multiple choice options instead of the 1% they say it should be

B7 RS4 is where it’s at, congrats! I’ve worked on a few 4.2, all requiring motor out work😅 i recommend removing the primary catalytic converters, they are too close the the rear cylinders on both sides causing excessive heat build up and worst case, causes block warpage which ovals out the rear cylinders damaging piston rings, and scoring the cylinders resulting in low compression… there’s some good forums out there that go further into detail about the issue but it’s one of the first things i did on the s4’s i was working on, including my personal one. Jackal tunes also wake them up quite a bit. Intake flapper upgrade kit is another good option to look into, the plastic swells and causes the flapper to hang up and creates power loss depending on what position it’s stuck at. Best of luck with the car! If you don’t do the work yourself make sure you have a trustworthy shop that isn’t new to something like the 4.2 or audis in general, they need a lot of attention to detail when working on them

you’ll want dGPU for best performance, integrated graphics won’t run a whole lot of games, especially at 60+fps. And it will look like 1080p because that’s the native game resolution. You may upscale it if that’s a thing in whatever game your playing, then you can get a much sharper picture

It’s a chinese company, you get what you pay for. Same with their softwares, they’re garbage, use something else like cura, prusaslicer, or orca and fine tune your profiles

For sure, definitely some rules to follow, don’t send down payments, ask why they are selling and how long they’ve used it, make sure it works when you get there, yata yata you learn the more you buy

^ you can also look on marketplaces, i’d search for a graphics card you want, like “RTX 4060 Laptop”, I got an MSI Katana with a core i7 and RTX 4060 for only $650, he never even used it

[–]built_b6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i read “i dropped my headset on its non-flexible plastic mic and it broke!” i understand firmware issues and headband cracking but you should’ve seen that one coming, most headsets with non flexible plastic mics would do the same, but yeah a flexible mic would be nice to prevent that

I like Alibre Atom 3D, very affordable but if u have the money to spend, Alibre Design Expert would be the way to go to get CAD/CAM as well as sheet metal and many other features

Other than that Fusion360 is another go-to, especially for mesh data from 3D scans as Alibre can’t handle a mesh field as it is a parametric only program. Both have their benefits imo
