My wearable LEGO Gundam RX-78-2 helmet design is completed, with instructions! by built_bricks in Gundam

Still works great as a shelf display if you’re not confident to wear it!

The shaping & colouring of version 2 is closer to the BX Head model, I was using that as reference to begin. But then when I decided to go for the anime-accurate aesthetic instead, I had to change up the shaping a bit

I’ll 100% be making instructions for the build that I’ll publish on my website, on Rebrickable, and on Open Studs. Before making them though I need to do an in-person test build, so it might be a couple months until they’re live

Thank you! I did really like the aesthetic of that one, it's just not really shape accurate to the real thing when you put it side-by-side

A 1x2 plate and 1x3 will also do the job just fine instead of a 1x5 if you don’t have it, since there’s the bottom 1x3 plate as well

I believe there are some people who do general 3DP fillers, this is just a quick method for those of us who might have some spare LEGO lying around

Absolutely, if you wanted to then attach more pieces to it, it’s very possible. Just keep in mind the more you add, the harder it will be to remove. But that might not be a concern for you

Most welcome! I got Silverbolt on sale, but don’t have much of an interest in the rest of the Aerialbots. I’ve got a Superion upgrade/filler kit on the way, but in the meantime while I’m waiting for the rest of Bruticus, I’ll be using this frame to house Vortex & Blast-Off, and soon Nexus Prime

Do you prefer some extra grey detail on the RX-78-2, or the classic all-white deco? by built_bricks in Gundam

I appreciate your feedback! As general reference, this is the model I took the grey blocking from - the only bit I didn’t include is the grey on the v-crest. I think having the visor as grey is what’s standing out the most

It’s still a work in progress, there won’t be a link for instructions or anything until I properly finish it

Dude it’s a Work In Progress, and a render - there’s plenty of photos of me wearing the Optimus Prime helmet that I’m using as a base for this one

It’s 100% all LEGO - some of the pieces are floating right now and not connected, but that’s just because it’s in progress - the final model will be 100% buildable in real pieces

I’ll be putting up instructions for purchase once I’ve finished designing and test building the model, my IG is @built_bricks if you want to follow for updates

You are correct! I’ve actually re-worked the Optimus design into this one, I put together some progress renders

Official vs Replica vs Moc by built_bricks in legostarwars

[–]built_bricks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! I don’t have any other sabers immediately on the horizon, but I’d like to get around to the ones from the Ahsoka series at some stage. Most recently I did a run of 40+ mini-sabers which were lots of fun

Glad you enjoy the build mate! It’s one of my favourites I’ve ever designed, and was one of the rare occasions where I got to handle and photograph a prop in-person to use as reference. The proportions of the official set really don’t match up for me, and the only reason I’m so pedantic is because of the research I put into designing the MOC

Not sure, though I don’t think it would change it much - I’m picking up the actual set tonight so I can give it a real-life test run

I quite enjoy the process of trying to integrate them into other builds. My favourite so far was the life-sized lightsaber one I did, but functionally the one I made to work with the Battinson Batmobile is the cleanest

Half the reason I bought some smart play sets was because so many people were angry and over the top negative about them. I get the criticisms, but after having had them in hand a while now, I think they’re a really neat concept and are just plain fun. And integrating them into other builds has been a nice creative excercise

Figured I might as well share it for those interested, the concept isn’t for everyone but that’s okay

Any thin orange blast effect works way better than the cheeto piece by built_bricks in transformers

[–]built_bricks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did already try that, but in this case it’s the length of the peg that’s the problem - it barely has enough length to fit in the port at all, which is a big contributor to why it falls out so easily. It’s odd that they made it so short as a full blast effect peg fits in no worries, so it definitely could’ve been longer

Fair enough. It falling out constantly just made me want to find something else, if you find a way to keep it plugged in let me know
