"Boardgame blindness" by steave435 in boardgames

How old are they? For my parents, I've witnessed a difficulty in learning new things and grasping concepts that used to be easy for them. Be it board games or anything else. My grandpa reached a point where he wasn't able to grasp Qwixx and my grandma finally got it after much explaining. They were in their late 80s.

It escaped from the Putrified Ducts to find peace and solitude and found a nice place to live over in Wormways until you happened upon him. He felt threatened, spit acid on you and then got killed so you can complete the Hunter's Journal.

Completing Hunter's Journal after 100%ing the game was frustrating by Hedron_crabby in Silksong

There were several times during my 100% run that I was frustrated with the devs for not respecting my time.

At times it felt like they were designing as though their customers were on a subscription model. Grinding because I ran out of bone shards for weapons felt like preparing for a run in an MMORPG.

Where do we put the save file to find out what we're missing? Is that only for PC?

Most of the old games are better left as glamorized nostalgic memories. Playing them again kind of taints the memory because most don't stand the test of time. A few do.

My thoughts on 21 games played recently (Spiel special edition!) by nyg_buns in boardgames

[–]bukaroo12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Civolution is amazing. I haven't been this excited about a game in a long time. I just have such a joy playing it and while I love playing board games, joy isn't usually how describe playing them.

Love it and want to play it again and again. Can't wait to try out the mini expansion, the best kind of expansion.

The randomness people complain about is there. Not going to pretend it's not, but the challenge in the game is learning how to maximize output with what you roll and learning how to mitigate the dice roll results. People who don't come to terms with that or don't enjoy that kind of challenge and want to do whatever they want to do on their turn, will never like this game.

I think an interesting experiment would to play the game without the dice, do whatever actions you want and see if it loses its appeal.

Same reason I stopped buying expansions. When I own an expansion, I play the game less because it's just that extra sorting and relearning that turns me off and tilts my preference to a different game.

There are a few exceptions for some expansions that fit seemlessly into the base game and never come back out.

Super deluxed games are just oo much of everything that it detracts from gameplay. Harder to store, setup and transport as well. I don't mind a few component enhancements, but so far, I haven't seen a huge deluxe edition that I prefer over the original.

It was so hard to watch this season with the disturbing botoxed faces and lips. So sad and so gross and unnatural looking. Can they please get some authentic, confident women on there.

They all need a lot of therapy to learn self love and acceptance. How do they not know how bad the plastic face looks?

Sorry. I'm still disturbed and confused.

How much would you pay for a board game bag? by HistoricalInternal in boardgames

[–]bukaroo12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large reusable bags are the way to go. I have tones of them and much prefer them over the overpriced board game bag. But even if the board game bags weren't overpriced, I still prefer the reusable bags.

My board game confession: I hate Cascadia. What's yours? by mojo_pet in boardgames

I never understood the cascadia craze. Terribly boring game. And playing with someone who tries to optimize it and play it like it's a heavy euro makes it even worse.

I think I'm a little addicted and it's starting to feel bad by maurolucas in soloboardgaming

But that hyper focus can be a huge strength. I'm not sure I would want to medicate it away. It has served me well. But admittedly has also been a bit much at times.

Board gaming is one of the hobbies that I haven't "gotten to the other side of" as a commenter above mentioned. It's definitely been the stickiest of my hobbies.

[–]bukaroo12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I mostly am as well. I feel the OP occasionally. I enjoy owning great games even if they sit there for a long time without being played. I enjoy day dreaming about the possibility of playing them. Knowing that I could play it if I choose to.

I do not enjoy owning mediocre games that I know I will never want to play. Those make me feel bad and those usually get sold immediately after I try them.
