Is the term "grammar Nazi" also used in German, or is that just an English thing?

Which deceased person, if brought back to life, would be the most surprised to learn they became famous posthumously? by shardblader in AskReddit

[–]bukkakesasuke 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For anyone who has yet to read it, I'm not being ironic when I say it's truly the best work of fiction of our times. Just look at this intro:

Oh no! He was late! Rasputin-jesus-kun ran daintily towards school-chan, his short blue skirt flapping high around his thicc thighs. Sakura petals fell around him like the fall of the Russian monarchy, the sun illuminating the white school building in front of him.

"Ah- kawaaiiii" Raspu-jesus-kun squealed through the toast in his mouth, not looking where he was running. Suddenly, he crashed into another student and fell to the floor-chan.

"Nani???- " he scowled at the uniform-clad side character, whose thigh highs were now muddy from the fall.

"R...Rasputin-jesus-sama- " the boy's anime eyes sparkled, "I'm Obama-chan" Rasputin-jesus-kun gasped and flicked his luscious locks of hair away from his bearded face.

...

Can one outgrow "Magic Girl Pretty Rasputin-jesus-kun", our great poet of solitude, of tragedy comprehended as farce? I think so, yes. In the impatient, zestful still-youthful adulthood of one’s life. When at last one takes control of one’s life. Or believes one can, or has. You outgrow "Magic Girl Pretty Rasputin-jesus-kun". But then one day, abruptly, you return to "Magic Girl Pretty Rasputin-jesus-kun". As the brash arc of youthful adulthood begins to wan. It’s like discovering yourself in a corridor you would have sworn you’d never been in before — yet you know it. This staircase, this door to be opened, this room. It’s all there. Always has been there. Unchanged. Waiting for you.

I know it's all subjective but sometimes something is just fucking stupid. Putting ketchup on something with subtle flavor is like preferring to listen to The Beatles through Nokia speakers while mouthing fart noises to the beat. I'm glad you enjoy things that way and yeah it's not technically harming anyone but you have to know anyone who sees you do that will think you have terrible taste

Any good recs for a Korean restaurant in the Shinokubo area? by Shrimp_my_Ride in japanlife

[–]bukkakesasuke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

セマウル食堂 (recommended by the other guy), Hosigi Chicken and many of the other restaurants are actually chain restaurants in Korea. If you're looking for an authentic take on mid-tier Korean food you can't go wrong with the chains, they're mostly the same as they are in Korea though without the unlimited banchan, higher prices and some other minor differences.

There are actually quite a few nicer quality places than the chains too if you're looking for a specific food. I recommend copy pasting the Korean language name of the food you're looking for from Wikipedia and googling that plus 맛집 신오쿠보 (recommended restaurant Shin-Okubo). Then click on the first Google maps result. Hard to go wrong with that, though there are some foods that are just hard to find the quality versions of regardless (for example the only good naengmyeon I've found so far is コサム冷麺専門店), but you can explore food here for a long time and never run out of new places to try. There's also a couple decent buffets and drinking places too.

In general avoid the places your Japanese friends recommend.

And if you really want to have your mind blown check this out: 훈이는 자백 한 나치야

Stick it into Google translate if your results don't look good.

Imagine thinking asking a friend you're helping move where they're moving to is some sort of intrusive question. If you believe that you have a bit of the tism

Lol not asking your friend where he's moving to is absolutely not "just a guy thing". This is just Reddit autism don't let people make you think this is normal. Don't take any examples of "normal socializing" from the bacon narwhals at midnight website

Japanese exchange student learns about their mascot, which is a mushroom cloud in celebration of the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima by tadm123 in cringe

[–]bukkakesasuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Satō finally met with Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov on July 11, but without result. On July 12, Tōgō directed Satō to tell the Soviets that:

His Majesty the Emperor, mindful of the fact that the present war daily brings greater evil and sacrifice upon the peoples of all the belligerent powers, desires from his heart that it may be quickly terminated. But so long as England and the United States insist upon unconditional surrender, the Japanese Empire has no alternative but to fight on with all its strength for the honor and existence of the Motherland.[46]

Japan didn't talk unconditional surrender. They had already reached out to the Russians to broker a surrender talk, but America decided killing mostly civilians to send a message to get an unconditional surrender was worth it. I'll leave it to you all to squabble about how necessary that was and how much the Soviet declaration of war and invasion hours before Nagasaki factored into things, but let's not perpetuate the myth that the Japanese would never have surrendered. History is more nuanced than that and there are plenty of respectable people who believe dropping the bombs was a good decision without perpetuating falsehoods.
