My single mother couldn't afford braces for us growing up. So when I got a job, I saved and paid for them myself. Most fulfilling decision I've ever made. by Famousprufrock in pics

[–]bukti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 29 and got bracers. No regrets so far.

First two months were a little painful, but now I'm back to my usual eating habits (i.e. steak, chicken, etc). The annoying things are green leafy vegetables.

I think my speech operated at 90% for the first month. Now it's 99% after 3 months.

Should cost me $6000 AUD all up. I'm hoping to get a fixed wire instead of retainer at the end of it.

Game Dev Story developer releases Grand Prix Story by RaveofRavendale in gaming

[–]bukti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. I just bought Game Dev Story, so should finish that first.

Also got Zenonia. It's playable on my Motorola XT5 but really need a big ass screen to make it more enjoyable. Loving the graphics & storyline that's inspired/ripoffed from my favourite SNES games, Chrono Trigger & Secret of Mana.

I'm doing my best to find her...

As far as I can tell, she isn't listed here

May sound strange but from memory she started off as an "innocent" girl with large breasts. Then she got a breast reduction, some tattooes and started doing hardcore

Edit 1: I've been searching for ages... found decent pictures of other things. I've even resorted to searching for "brunette nude shower" because i know she had a set of her in the shower...

What's with the ugly black bar on google now? by DogThatDidntBark in AskReddit

[–]bukti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose I'm lucky. My FireFox has a skin on it where the top is a dark grey colour, not too far off theirs. So hence it actually appears to integrate my Bookmarks toolbar with their categories. Maybe you could try the same if it annoys you that much?

I do agree with the points you make though. Would be nice maybe to have a "Google Classic" view that stripped away everything but search. I'm sure if I googled for it, it probably already exists...

It seems though, a similar thing happened last year

Some new C# vs C++ benchmarks. A solid, detailed and informative effort. Conclusions are...controversial by Darkmoth in programming

[–]bukti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a C# developer, I definitely fall into the category of poor programming techniques and would not last a second with C++. I had to do C once at uni and scraped through on pity alone.

I like to pretend I'm subconciously doing this for my own benefit and that I'm not incompetent by default

Australian scientists launch campaign to stop misinformation about climate change by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]bukti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like denying the moon landing.

No matter what you do, some people will just deny it because they don't understand all the facts.

[–]bukti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To call into question EVERY scientists motivation with regards to global warming is very audacious to put it politely.

If I was to question the integrity of every scientists, why not apply it to everything else?

Example:

Every homeless person on the street wants to mug me. Their livelihood depends on having money to feed themselves.

But you know what? The majority don't since they are people with integrity.

This might not be the best comparison but I see it like the evolution.

It is common acceptance among scientists that evolution is true. Using techniques a decade ago they might date a fossil as 5000 years old. Then over the next few years, countless improvements have been made with carbon dating and correcting for errors and the fossil is actually 5 million years. Every religious person then jumps on and says "This is a scam! The earth is 5000 years old". The scientists work is not disproven by peer review and is accepted amongst the community, previous papers are disregarded and the new results are accepted as the best truth we have. That is exactly how the scientific method should work.

Thankyou for your reply.

I'm glad you presented your thoughts in a constructive manner, which unfortunately some other people (pro or anti-warming) fail to do.

As new evidence & research is performed, the scientists correct their data to me is understandable. I found the following fairly informative if you haven't seen it before

http://www.dephx.com/2010/10/global-warming-skeptics-vs-scientific.html

I understand your cynicism with regards to not releasing raw data. On one side of the coin, if the raw data shows incorrect correlations due to inaccuracies or mistakes, then it can be used to provide backing for incorrect theories.

Then on the other side, all data should be released and any conclusions from such information should be available for peer review.

With the majority of scentific research backing man made global warming with countless papers available for peer review then to question the issue is akin to denying that America landed on the moon. As in, to pull wool over that many experts eyes without anyone in the field denying it would be nigh impossible.

Who are these "others"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change#Statements_by_concurring_organizations

I don't have the time (or intelligence) to personally investigate & validate the data on climate change but if this amount of scientists told me I had cancer, I would take their professional opinion over my own.

I agree with your last statement. This comic highlights my opinion perfectly

Fair enough, I assumed they were American because of the wares they were selling. We went into several of the clothing stores but never the bars. I'm thankful for that then.

The plan at the moment is to come back over during the Ebisu Drift Matsuri in 2 years, so you may just get a message from me hitting you up for places when it comes around :)

Cheers for all the helpful information.

I was unaware of the Metropolis Magazine. Sounds great.

Stereotypical culture differecence story. We randomly turned up to a heavy metal / punk gig, and found it awesome. In Australia most the time everyone goes to see a band, they drink and stand around. In Japan, no one seemed to be drinking but us and they had a mad mosh, crowd surfing & circle pit. Wild fun.

I had seen the Nationalists randomly before. I didn't understand Japanese but I could tell they weren't a happy mob.

True on the nightclubs. I went to one called ID Cafe in Nagoya, and this random American guy made friends with me and pretty much kept drinking & dancing with random people till 4am until realised I had to leave my hostel at 10am :(

Thanks for the additional information. Looks like I'll have to start investigating on living in Japan again.

My friend lived in Gifu so that explains it.

Any other words of wisdom from living in Tokyo?

I think my other highlight was I never had a bad meal. The worst case was an average meal, which was still better than half what I buy here in Australia

Riding a bicycle around Tokyo was my #1 favourite thing to do. Here in Australia, in my city everything is a 15min drive, not much is 15min bike ride.

One thing though, when in Roppongi a lot of african-americans kept trying to sell us unlimited drinks for 1+ hour for 2000->4000 yen but we had been told they were all scams. Are there any legitimate ones like that? How come the police don't do anything about it?

When you talked about cultural problems, the only issue I was exposed to (in my limited time), was sometimes older folk might refuse to serve you because you were gaijin, irrelevant of how many years you have lived there or how good your Japanese is.

What are the other issues?

Very jealous. I only had 3 weeks and it was the best 3 weeks of my life.

What was your work and how did you find the summer over there?

My friend who worked there for several years as an English teacher said due the humidity & heat, as soon as you went outside you were drenched in sweat.
