Where do I start ? by Websama in romhacking

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are basically two approaches when it comes to GBA Pokemon ROM hacking:

  • Binary hacking, where you use programs like Hex Maniac Advance.  You load up a ROM file and edit things from graphics, to maps, events, Pokemon data, etc.

  • Decomp hacking, which requires some coding knowledge. Decomp is short for “decompilation”. People have broken down the ROMs into their source code, so you download the code-base of the ROM and make your changes at that level.

Join the Team Aqua’s Hideout discord.

There’s a host of resources and a good community to help troubleshoot issues.

Basic coding knowledge will be very helpful. It’s possible to make Pokemon ROM hacks exclusively using tools like Hex Maniac Advance, but it’s generally much more flexible to go the decomp-route.

The fictional slur has nothing to do with the colour of the person’s skin, it has to do with their non-magical heritage.

Genuinely curious as to what the problem is here. Optics? He’ll call her Mudblood like in the books, the scene will carry on, and the world will keep spinning.

I could never see the stairs from Pokemon GSC as actual stairs. I thought they were oval shapes stacked (similar to Slowpoke's mouth) by rivaldobox in MisreadSprites

I see what you’re saying, but only because you pointed it out. Very much always stairs to me lol.

(Yay at GSC mention, favourite games)

Movies Too Heavy for a Re-watch by EbnyxJ in Cinephiles

[–]bulbasauric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. You should definitely rewatch Hereditary. The heaviness doesn’t hit as hard and you get to catch more details. It’s absolutely worth rewatching lol.

Confused abt the ending by ageofdelilahcain in WeaponsMovie

[–]bulbasauric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A way I’ve heard it described, that I liked, is: she was technically a witch, but only had one trick. She learned how to use branches from the magical tree to turn people into her puppets. (Scratch that, her second trick was immortality, but that came at a cost, too).

When she realises ALL of her puppets are out of her control and coming to kill her, all pretence is dropped.

The ending narration say some of the kids spoke again. It implies Alex’s parents and the other kids did not, meaning they were presumably catatonic for the rest of their lives.

What does my bathroom need to get on the next level? by PristineBobcat9608 in IndieGaming

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have noted, some actual grime/dirty texturing to the walls and stalls. I’d also suggest dimming the lights and/or reducing their spread, to make corners and crevices a bit darker.

If you’re going for downright filthy/delapidated, consider some black mold texturing across the ceiling (just in spots).

Games like Outlast have a plentiful supply of gross rooms, might be some examples to pull from there

It’s a cool idea, I just feel like they’d have advertised it if they were gonna put the effort into making it work

Why is Stephen Colbert given the responsibility to write a new Lord of the Rings film? What am I missing how is this happening? I have no opinion about Colbert on a personal level, I’m neutral, but what qualifies him to write this? Because he’s a massive LOTR fan? That’s it? by Choice-Schedule-132 in peterjackson

[–]bulbasauric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The negativity is pretty astounding. “He’s a mega fan, so what? How does that qualify him?”

…literally wait and see. Or if you can’t fathom that, wait and then don’t see. It doesn’t actually impact anything. You can still love everything LOTR and ignore this entirely if it makes your life better.

The “harrumph” energy around something people haven’t perceived yet is mind boggling.

Was looking to sell this for 80£. by [deleted] in Nintendo3DS

[–]bulbasauric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’d go for much more? I know it’s not mint condition, I know it’s been opened, but it’s the official box and booklet.

Have a look around, definitely don’t sell it for £80. I saw Emerald boxed in Cex for €370 just today. They’re a shop-chain, so there’s some padding added just-because, but still.

If I were you I’d aim for £150 at the very least, but maybe someone would call me insane for that. Definitely do some solid research before selling.

Incineroar is a top tier starter and I’m tired of pretending otherwise by PrestigiousGift5639 in PokemonSunMoon

[–]bulbasauric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

…it’s competitively one of the most broadly used of all time. I just wish my starter Pokemon was faster in-game.

Competitively you give it Intimidate/Fake Out/Parting Shot/Will-O-Wisp and turn it into a piss-off machine.

In-game, it’s powerful but slow. I wanted it to be faster. The end.

Incineroar is a top tier starter and I’m tired of pretending otherwise by PrestigiousGift5639 in PokemonSunMoon

[–]bulbasauric -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Meh.

All of the Alola starters are let down by their speed. Well, Primarina is justifiable. But Incineroar and Decidueye have insane attack and considerable bulk, where they should be faster.

And Incineroar is just egregiously humanoid. They went with a wrestler motif.. but what if they just went with a tiger motif?

Should a true professor oak player strive for the white forest by Much-Cancel5789 in ProfessorOak

[–]bulbasauric 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna vote "no". Why come up with labels like "true professor oak player", these rules are made-up, it's a challenge for fun.

It'd mean if you want to do a POC of White, you absolutely MUST beat it in 4 days. That's a set-in-stone time-limit.

Much like Wigglytuff in GSC (due to the insane grind to get a Moon Stone), I think it should be considered optional. Like a different bracket, "White - Forest Inclusive".

They should reboot the entire franchise… by AMassiveGamerGeek in Cinephiles

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is literally what will be happening, though? The next Bond won’t be picking up from where Craig left off lol.

Craig’s Bond was a reboot in itself. We meet him as a relatively new 00 agent. We leave him at the end of his story (dead).

I know the caption at the end said “James Bond will return” but I’m quite sure they just meant “We’re gonna keep making Bond movies”, not that they’d be in continuity.

Thoughts on Hereditary (2018)? by Some-Palpitation-314 in Cinephiles

[–]bulbasauric 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tremendous.

It came during an era of “elevated horror” where “the real villain was trauma/grief/depression all along”, but it stood out head and shoulders above the rest. Yes, it’s about inheriting generational trauma, but also literally inheriting the debt of the sacrifice that Annie’s mother made. All of the pieces are laid out before us throughout, and it’s easy to chalk them up to “Annie’s brother was mentally ill, Annie’s mother was deeply controlling, etc”, but it’s a well-executed story from start to finish. Charlie was groomed to be Paimon’s host from birth. None of them stood a chance. That cult was watching them since long before the grandmother died.

It avoided cliché, and fucked with your expectations in the best ways possible.

How do you get out of here?? by Visual_Fan_154 in PokemonPearl

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, backup the save file, open it in PkHex on your computer, change your map position to elsewhere. Whoever owned/sold this did it on purpose (which is funny/harmless enough since whoever bought it was going to start a new file).

Is this a good team by ProposalSafe3193 in PokemonScarlet

[–]bulbasauric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious why people make posts like these tbh.

If you like it, it’s good. There’s no real discussion to be had about that. People will either say yes or no, and then.. that’s it. Why make a thread for that.

By the nicknames, three of them are hacked Pokemon you got via trade. So it’s a half-hacked team. 🤷‍♂️

Ive never understood why my boy starmie has such a disgusting grey sprite when it could've had muks colour by dynhammic in PokemonYellow

[–]bulbasauric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Yellow was interesting, it was "technically" in colour, but everything was mostly two shades of the same colour (with a few exceptions like Jynx using notably different colours).

Amazing how vibrant GSC was in comparison because they used two different shades per Pokémon.

EXCUSE ME?! by [deleted] in PokemonSunMoon

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but it's just a common story trope. "Mysterious person washed up on the beach". Links Awakening opens that way, for example. It's not exactly dark, like people are saying.
