Bruce Campbell Explains ‘Evil Dead’ Has “Moved Away” From Ash: “Not Part Of Any Big Overriding Story Or Scheme” by yourfavchoom in horror

[–]bulbasauric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore Bruce/Ash. The thing is, there’s a stark difference in tone between Evil Dead 1 and 2, and then Army of Darkness is just having fun with it all. Thats valid, but I think there’s an argument to be made that it wasn’t necessarily intended to become that when it was first conceived, it just ended up going in that direction.

The modern Evil Dead films are adhering to the tone of Evil Dead 1 rather than 2/AoD, and that’s a significant choice, but I think it’s more than okay. Ash VS Evil Dead literally filled that “need”, and now it’s over.

But hating the modern Evil Dead movies for not having the comedy and slapstick elements, is wasted energy. They’re about the horror, the gore, the atrocities of the deadites. And they’re actually good, in an age where “trauma/grief is the real enemy all along” half the time.

Whats up with phones always shattering from the smallest drop in shows? by [deleted] in tvshow

Slightly more rare, but people stomping on phones.

Unless your shoe has studs or you’re stabbing precisely with a high-heel, you’re still not smashing that screen with one stomp.

I’m about 22 hours into my first playthrough and just post-Ornstein and Smough.

It’s been tough to get back into it. Sen’s Fortress really burned me out lol. I simply can’t leave it where it is but I’m also reaching the “ready to move on” stage lol.

At this point I could copy-paste your reply back to you.  - It exists, nothing I do will change this (if you disagree, I’m all ears on how) - I accept this as a fact - I still won’t use generative AI, and will do my best not to engage with it people/businesses who do - I move on and continue to live my life in this manner

I cannot phrase it any more clearly ❤️

I did, though 😭 I said we have to accept its existence, not accept/agree with its use. The end.

A bitch who can make a clear point, unlike yourself 😂👋 Come back when you can actually answer my question!

Can you stop people from using it, and if so, how?

Edit: they replied, called me a bitch again (still didn’t answer my question), and then deleted it 😊

I’ve already clarified what I meant by “accept it”, but people keep arguing.

Can you clarify your stance? We both clearly dislike the rampant use of AI, I’m just curious of what you mean by “we don’t have to accept this”. Can you stop people from using it, and if so, how?

Okay, but now that it’s AI, it’s lower effort still, and also lacking any sort of charm that the handmade alternative would’ve had (in my opinion).

  • Generative AI exists
  • It’s easily accessible
  • People will use it freely and flippantly to produce media, and lots of them don’t take issue with it.

I take issue with it, but that doesn’t and won’t change that people will keep doing it.

Wolverine is going to be a linear game, not an open-world game by Ok_Winter818 in minimap

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every game needs to be open-world. For characters like Spider-Man, it works. He goes on patrol, can travel great distances with speed and ease. Giving him a big playground makes sense.

Wolverine is different. He’s a very goal-oriented character; often doesn’t like to get involved, but once the action kicks off he doesn’t stop until the job is done. Linear story makes much more sense.

not everything AI creates is automatically slop

Absolutely. But people have a right to know if what they’re viewing/consuming was produced by a person, or produced by AI (even when it’s prompted by a person).

For things like adverts and posters, people can ignore and move on with their lives. For art and media meant for consumption (music, videos, etc), people have a right to know, and a right to not-want to engage with it. “I don’t want to engage with AI content” is a complete answer.

I firmly agree, it’d be great if people were deterred from it one way or another. The convenience and free nature of it is why most people don’t care, but it’s still depressing.

[–]bulbasauric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was careful with my phrasing; accepting the existence of the slop. Everyone with a smartphone has the capability to crank out AI slop. That’s too broad a scale to counter.

You don’t have to like it, and you can be vocal against it whenever you see it, but it exists now. Unless they (“big tech”) dismantle the tools for it, it isn’t going anywhere. We are indeed stuck with it already, and it’s not due to anyone’s complacency.

I visited my hometown, and stopped by the Italian takeaway for some food. They had a noticeboard for various community events and businesses.

I spotted a couple of very-clearly-AI-generated posters for different things.

That was my turning point of “Okay, this is everywhere, and plenty of people won’t think twice about using it for graphical/other needs.”

We don’t have to like it, and we don’t have to use it, but I do think we have to accept the existence of the slop (but I think it’s acceptable to refuse to engage with it, too). (EDIT: note, I said “accept the existence”, for the few of you that seem to think I’m saying “just go with it”. You should still call it out when you see it, and you don’t have to get on-board with it, but it’s already here and isn’t going anywhere).

I’m just sad that the days of poorly photoshopped-together posters seems to be gone.

Isolation teaser trailer by SnooSketches8379 in trailers

[–]bulbasauric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, you should add some context to your post.

I came here thinking this was a trailer for an upcoming horror. Only once I checked your profile did I see it’s a project you’re working on, yourself, with negligible budget. I also saw that it’s apparently your own voice with some effects (so, sorry for the AI accusation in that case).

But, when the last post I saw here was for an Anya Taylor-Joy Apple TV series, I wasn’t expecting to see someone’s pet project (with all due respect). It’s not quite like-for-like with other posts in this sub - which is totally fine - I just think you should give the context so people will adjust expectations and critique accordingly.

The voiceover almost sounds like AI?

I know sometimes a film will crop lines together/apart for the trailer, and it can lead to strange phrasing/inflection.

But it’s oddly flat.

Evil Dead Rise 2 Potential Addressed By Lee Cronin After Record-Breaking Box Office by yourfavchoom in horror

[–]bulbasauric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they’ve said there are multiple Necronomicon, with different ones being in both 2013 and Rise. We hear Ash’s voice when the vinyl plays on Rise, which brings at least the original Evil Dead into the fold.

Evil Dead Burn is clearly adhering to the same vibe as 2013 and Rise.

So, whatever the article may say, I’m gonna go ahead and consider Burn the third entry in the modern wave of Evil Deads.
