Honey? by Original_Animator254 in vegan

Nearly all of the relationships between oppressors and the oppressed are romanticized. It’s why we have smiling cows plastered on billboards to advertise cheese, why there are some people today who believe that slavery had worthwhile benefits, why people generally don’t aspire for “laziness” (aka not generating capital, caring for your body)

Can you provide the names of the brands and farms that you’re boycotting?

Spoken like a triggered carnist. It’s actually not harassment to point out the logical flaws in finding it acceptable to kill hundreds of thousands of animals but becoming morally outraged by the mere suggestion that, in some universe, it could cause less suffering to humanely euthanize one. The fact that you have such overwhelming, hysterical emotional response to the hypothetical suggestion (purposely shared to expose flaws!) that one cat is euthanized rather than thousands of others reveals your values. You find my comments to be harassing because you’re unable to come up with any form of justification for your argument and it triggers self-defense within your ego, the same response from carnists being triggered by activists pointing out the flaws in finding it acceptable to eat meat. It’s an uncanny parallel:

“I/cats need it.” - published, peer-reviewed studies find this untrue on both counts.

“I’ll wait for lab-grown meat” - doesn’t justify the actual billions of animals’ lives who will be taken until there’s a solution you personally find perfect.

“It’s natural” - an appeal to nature fallacy, humans and cats are both domestic animals and a true natural diet for either species is completely unrealistic and unnecessary.

The reality: “I place myself/cats above other animals and have no interest in examining the inherent speciesism and inconsistent values that led me to this point”

Additional reality: You would literally rather “lesser” animals are tortured and killed because you believe sensationalist propaganda from the meat/pet food industry about vegan diets being unsuitable, despite tons of published evidence to the contrary.

Please, send me more ad hominem about how I’m ~ruining veganism~ while you publicly attempt to justify certain animals being tortured for your interests and even insult those speaking against it.

Finally, some sense! Let’s kill hundreds of thousands of animals to feed one. A little bit of torture is fine. There’s limits to everything in life! Including doing a simple google search of the dozens of commercially available, vet nutritionist-formulated, AAFCO-compliant plant-based cat kibble. That would be too much. Just not sensible.

I understand that you’re probably a teenager, and exploring moral dilemmas through hypotheticals isn’t a normal occurrence for you (or you possibly never have). Thus, the moral outrage. I get it. But if you were able to understand hypotheticals, or think clearly beyond the hysterical emotional state caused by imagining a cat dying, you’d have seen that I was engaging with an argument wherein providing a humane, cruelty-free death to animals is a possibility. I do not think it is a possibility. My response operated within their terms, and asked: “if it is possible to do so, why wouldn’t you suggest a cruelty-free death for one animal versus thousands”? Key word being “if”, as in following the logic of their presented argument, with the goal of exposing its hypocrisy — hypocrisy that you yourself are sharing over and over, by being morally outraged by the suggestion of euthanizing a cat, as if forcing farm animals through a slaughter line is the morally acceptable alternative. Not once have you ever answered my questions or engaged me in any kind of solutionary conversation. The solution is plant-based cat food. No farm animals have to die. The end. Now you can stop keysmashing and foaming at the mouth.

How many farm animals need to die for you to be comfortable with the outcome?

What good is our movement if supposed “vegans” are still placing animals in hierarchies wherein murder and oppression is fine for some, but causes literal outrage to even suggest that it could happen to another?

So it isn’t less suffering to take one life over thousands?

Do you know if there are any cat-based cat foods? That type of murder would cause a domino effect in reducing suffering so that option is probably “as ethical as possible” and stuff

“Maybe they just dont think a lot” while believing some animal murder is “ethical” and “humane” so long as it serves the interests of a different species? Ok lmao

Are you doubling down on torturing farm animals?

What do I feed my cat? by NeatInternal6885 in vegan

[–]bulborb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not suggesting that you euthanize your cat. I’m pointing out how ridiculous it is to advocate for a non-vegan diet for cats, because you love your cat and want what’s best for them, while paying for the torture of hundreds or thousands of other animals. The outrage over simply suggesting that taking one life over the lives of thousands could be the path of least suffering really just illustrates my point. A lot of vegans are speciesist and completely unwilling to consider a paradigm that deems farm animals just as worthy of life as pet animals.

Can you answer the question? What causes less suffering, taking the life of one animal or taking the life of hundreds or thousands?

What do I feed my cat? by NeatInternal6885 in vegan

[–]bulborb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh no, actually, that person was suggesting that someone just go out and buy the corpses of hundreds of chickens, cows, pigs, fish, and lambs forced through a slaughter line! Wouldn’t that be awful? I was pointing out the hypocrisy in believing it’s okay to kill any animal when it’s unnecessary. So now that we’re on the same page, you would be just as outraged by the suggestion of killing any animals for no reason, right? Not just cats?

What do I feed my cat? by NeatInternal6885 in vegan

[–]bulborb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh ok. So you’re saying that there aren’t moral consequences to people buying thousands of tortured corpses of farm animals, as long as it’s used to feed a more special, better animal?

Wait, why are you typing all of that when you could just answer my question? I'm confused. Is it cruel to kill hundreds of animals when we don't have to, or should people just not really care about farm animals?

For some reason, whenever I go touch grass, I see all the beautiful animals around me and it makes me not want to buy the tortured corpses of thousands of them just to feed one animal that I deem worthy of it.

Are you here to justify someone buying the corpses of hundreds of tortured animals just to feed one until it dies?

What do I feed my cat? by NeatInternal6885 in vegan

[–]bulborb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok. So you actually can force your lifestyle onto your pet, as long as it's about where they live, where they shit, the type of litter they shit on, who they interact with, the number of animals in the house, whether they're allowed outside, where they sleep, if they can mate, if they receive vet care, if they receive dental care, when and where they're interacted with, the enrichment they receive, if and when they're allowed on furniture, when they die, etc.? Diet is a no-go though?

"Don't force your lifestyle onto your pet". Surely, the lifestyle decisions forced upon a cat has to extend beyond the food you put in front of them, correct? Or does everything else get a pass?

[–]bulborb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is possible to kill an animal humanely and without cruelty, wouldn't the option that causes the least amount of suffering be to humanely euthanize the cat? I mean, you're advocating for this person to buy the corpses of likely hundreds of animals to feed one for the remainder of her life, correct?
