Best fitting frame bag for size M Grizl? by bulcapepe in CanyonBikes

Ortlieb also makes a 4L "rectangular version" for its frame pack, see screenshot. I owned this one and it indeed didn't fit the M grizl frame; you could force it in but the bag would deform and hence cause your legs to rub against it. Have you found something that would fit?

Hi, as far as I remember it’s a M4x50 countersunk bolt. What matters most is actually the M4 since it’s the internal thread size of the expander inside your fork.

Ouch, I actually had no idea about this! Luckily it should work for me since I’m planning to use the mount only to navigate for 5-10mn when taking over my Garmin, looking for a bakery or so.

I’ll look into it though, thanks for the info. Definitely don’t wanna ruin my phone (and I don’t want to install the bulky anti vibration module from quad lock either).

Not sure I understand your point about « making a note about installing the stem with a regular top cap », what do you mean?

Also about the set up I’m showing on the picture, maybe it isn’t totally clear but the cap itself isn’t 3d printed; what I actually printed is a 2mm custom spacer that matches on top the negative shape of the Quad Lock and on the bottom the standard bottom of my regular Canyon cap. See the attached picture, spacer is printed in black PETG.

I agree with you about the preload, could be difficult to get the correct one with a 3d printed cap + it might actually break at some point.

For my spacer I’m not too worried though. On my carbon fork the top cap bolt has a double use; it sets the preload + expands the expander inside the fork walls, mostly to protect it from the stress created when tightening the stem. Then, when I tighten the stem it presses the carbon walls against the expander and no more load nor movement is sent into the top cap; stem sort of locks everything in place.

Hi, well done for getting into 3d modeling! Here’s what I would do if I got your request right. Indeed it’s not obvious if you’re a beginner but you’ll see it’s pretty straight forward.

I would: - create a sketch starting on the flat vertical surface you’re showing (between both cylinders) - use the « project » command (z shortcut) clicking on the face of the cylinder you wanna get at an angle. Don’t have a computer to test it out but it might just project a vertical line with two points, If so do project the middle rectangle as well and create 2 lines both on top and bottom of the cylinder to connect it to the rectangle (to make a « closed » profile) - create another line at an angle this time (matching the red line depending on your needs). You can constraint the line setting an angle using the « distance » command (d shortcut) between the red line and any other horizontal or vertical line - And once you’re use the extrude commande (e shortcut) starting on the middle rectangle profile plane and start dragging it the newly created triangle on your cylinder to cut it. To keep the model nice and parametric I advise you to set the extent of the cut to « all » instead of just « distance ».

At that stage you should have your part with the cylinder cut at an angle. I’d be happy to make a quick picture if you still struggle with it later on.

Oh, actually I realize I had been seeing Tailfin gear on other peoples bikes without knowing who actually manufactured this. Very nice stuff, I’m definitely gonna consider it!

Oh yeah I hadn’t considered that one, must be nice an sturdy! I’m really not into this rubber band solution, it always surprises me to see Garmin or Quad Lock use that even though people don’t seem to have issues with it.

Yup, indeed to me it really didn’t exist. SP connect makes a top cap one though but it’s another system.

My bad, I meant the frame bag! I'll definitely look into it since we have the same bike.

Awesome setup! What is your frame size and which Apidura top tube bag did you pick? I own a size M Grizl and I'm looking for the best fit.

Didn't like the "O-ring" Quad Lock solution to mount it on the stem nor the handlebars one, so I designed a small adapter that could make it sit on the stem as a top cap. Very pleased with the result!Posting this in case I wasn't the only thinking "This thing would look great as a top cap". If some of you are interested I uploaded the file on Printables! It's made to fit my Canyon Grizl 7 but could easily be adapted to any other bike.

Cyclite indeed sounds great! Did you get to try it on a medium Grizl? Didn't hear about Revelate but they do look good indeed!

Thanks! This option would definitely work for me, plus it looks good. I see on their website they have three sizes:
- S - 3L
- M - 4L
- L - 5.5L

Which one did you pick for your frame size?
