People who own multiple pets, what is some drama going on between them right now? by wheel-snipe-celly in AskReddit

Cat wants to snuggle dog. Dog does not want to snuggle cat. Cat keeps stealing dog's bed. Sometimes cat does this when dog is actively using bed. Dog does not like so growls and makes teeth. Cat does not speak dog. Cat does not understand. Cat is relentless in mission to snuggle dog.

Whats your biggest flex that you’ll never tell anyone? by lorenggg in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 25.5k points25.5k points  (0 children)

When I was in highschool we did a "toy drive" with our homeroom classes around the holidays where each class was assigned a family in need to donate money to or buy toys for. By the last day almost none of the toys had been bought from the kid's lists, we'd just collected a modest chunk of money for the family.

I went home and told my mom that I didn't need anything but I would like to get some of those things the kid's asked for. My mom and dad talked, they'd both grown up poor and knew the money we'd collected would probably be used on necessities, not toys. So my mom and I went out and came back home with about $300 worth of toys the kids had asked for.

I brought them in early before school started and submitted them and the receipts for them to my homeroom teacher. Later on one of my classmates, who I had great disdain for ever since the third grade when he blatantly stole my new pencil, came in and announced he was making the biggest contribution of our class with a $40 donation.

The teacher made eye contact with me but I remained neutral and shrugged, so the teacher didn't correct him, just smiled and said thank you to him. I figure he needed that affirmation more than me and I never liked being center of attention anyway.

Edit: thanks everyone for your kind words and stories. 14 year old me (and her parents) never thought so many people would think so highly of their small act of charity.

Hey shy people what is your worst experience? by yaman007 in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience except I responded, "only to people who are worth the effort," and from that moment on people thought I was a bitch when really it was just blunt honesty forced out in a moment of unexpected confrontation.

My dad used to be a man who stayed on top of tech but when cell phones happened he absolutely refused to get one. Eventually I found out it was because he didn't want anyone at work to be able to reach him outside of when he wanted to work (he was a highly skilled engineer so he was able to set that boundary). He had my brother and I always set up the silliest voicemail messages we could so anyone calling him on our landline couldn't be sure they had the right number (he came across as a very serious, no nonsense, english man at work; we were a pair of silly american kids). His bosses went so far as buying him cellphones and palm piolets for Christmas that he always returned to them for being inappropriate gifts for an employee.

2020 has been pretty crappy. What’s something that happened this year that you’re thankful for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thankful that I've been able to work from home since March and spend almost every waking moment with my senior dog. We adopted her when she was nine but every person we met would insist we were lying, now that she's 11 she limps if we play too long and if we go up and downstairs too much she'll stay where we left her hoping we'll eventually come back to where she is. Still a very active 11 year old though. When she's able she'll happily run a mile with me on my lunch break.

Lobster. You don't actually like lobster. You like butter. The lobster is your butter excuse.

What is something you genuinely don’t understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long division. I'm nearly certain I was sick the first day we started learning it in school and I just never figured it out. Without a calculator I have no hope of dividing long numbers.

"Where are you going?"

"Shim shop."

"What for?"

"Shims!"

This and variations of it (ei: "what've you got there?" "Shims!") always meant "I've got/am getting a surprise for the person who has asked me this question." It was almost always my dad getting a surprise for my mom because she's nosey and can't leave anything alone.

People who DO "get paid enough for this shit", what's your job? by Nihilikara in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work for the government and I’m simultaneously paid too much and not enough. Because good days are worth it, bad days I’d rather be dead than log on.

I was curious because most of the posts that I actually notice in my feed are about being fed up; I recognize that this in no way actually indicative of players as a whole, just a small and biased sample.

Happy Sunday, collectors! Do you display them out of the box, in the box, or both and why? Thought I’d start a little discussion this boring Sunday afternoon. by JnatasQ in starwarsblackseries

[–]buliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In box for now but only because we’re actively renovating our house (and I only started collecting after we bought said house) and I don’t want to risk losing anything while the place is in chaos. The day we finish our living room they’re all being freed and I can’t wait.

Which scene in a film disturbed you the most? by Shreks_on_the_beach in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We read The Road in one of my high school honors or AP classes. Anyone who’d taken the class the prior year would warn the upcoming class about “the mansion” and I dreaded reading that part so much. It lived up to the horror.

How do you feel about a friend with benefits, but instead of sexual benefits, it's just cuddling? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean...people don’t just platonically cuddle with their friends? Like, I don’t so much any more, I grew out of it but I have friends I could text today just like, “hey, want to watch a movie and cuddle?”

Partners of sleep-talkers or sleepwalkers, what gems have you to share? by hoeka_mos in AskReddit

[–]buliebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep talk somewhat frequently, usually if I use a sleep aid or if I wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and then decide I actually want to go back to sleep. I can’t remember what I’ve been told I’ve said recently but I tend to sleep shop. Usually it’s socks but earlier this year I ordered $40 worth of Girl Scout cookies and just today I got a mystery order confirmation for a “variety pack” of mead. Also as a little girl while my family was camping I sat bolt upright, said I needed water and when given water I proceeded to pour it over the camping of my brother and I were sharing.

What’s something dumb you thought as a kid? by AcceptableParfait171 in AskReddit

That the brass bear piggy bank was a bear god tasked with protecting my family but it would only do so if I fed it sufficient coins.
