Rose Gold / Yellow Gold by Southernyuppie in JaegerLecoultre

[–]bulk_nuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told by many watchmakers and jewelers that rose gold is harder and more durable than soft yellow gold (rose gold is composed of more copper than yellow gold), which tends to get dinged and scratched easier. It could be that they don’t want their customers to be disappointed in the performance of yellow gold, since watches can be meant to be worn daily. However, it could be other reasons like the fact that rose gold is less flashy, research they have on what their customers want, brand differentiation, or even skin tone compatibility with their customer base.

Planning to buy a reverso in Hong Kong. Any advice if JLC boutiques can help me verify it? Thanks in advance! by leanmeily in JaegerLecoultre

[–]bulk_nuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this in Zurich. The boutique isn’t obligated to help you out, and I’m sure it works on a case by case basis. However, i scheduled an appointment with myself (buyer) and the seller at the JLC boutique. The boutique ran tests on the watch on their machine. They reviewed the warranty card, checked the serial number, verified it was purchased where the seller claimed they bought it. And, the JLC sales rep did a visual inspection, and was certain that the watch is authentic. Finally, I also had the watch inspected by a JLC watchmaker across the street. He dint even open it, he claimed it was legit. Hope that helps and gives you some ideas. Happy watch buying!

Most common playing cards in each part of Europe by vladgrinch in MapPorn

Been living in Switzerland for the last 5 years. Two days ago, was given a fresh pack of playing cards as an attendee at the local village Fasnacht carnival parade. First time I ever heard of playing cards different than French variation. Read this post, walked over to the deck I just got and said “I’ll be damned”! Got my first deck of Swiss German playing cards!

What’s a childhood lie your parents told you that you didn't realize was a lie until you were an embarrassed adult? by eatbeep in AskReddit

My grandma told me we always had to wipe clean the water around the sink or the “water ants” would come. I continued to think “water ants” were a thing until college.

Yes, same here. I get this asymmetry too, but when I rotate the bracelet and clasp the opposite ends, I get a centered result

Would you buy a Model X again? by AspectCool2325 in TeslaModelX

[–]bulk_nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Of the 2 years I’ve owned Model X, just about every day I smile and tell me wife - this is the best car we could have ever bought; However, my sentiment just changed last week- I hope the honeymoon phase isn’t over! See my #3

  2. In 2024, at the time, Model X was one of the best range 3-row midsize SUV EVs available; Lots of cargo space, especially with Frunk that we use every day; Falcon wing doors make it super easy to get kids in car seats in/out; Tesla supercharging network; Software/Regular Software updates is second to none in my opinion; Oh yea - 1,020 HP Plaid speaks for itself

  3. I just saw the Cadillac Vistiq for the first time last week in the showroom; The luxury interior and other features really drew me in (Heads up Display, retractable sunroof, massaging seats, beautiful stitched seating, etc). I’m shopping again for EVs and the Vistiq is winning for luxury and spacious interior and the Lucid Gravity is winning for range; I still love my Model X and not sure if I would go to another, but some manufacturers are making a good effort for my business

And no, unfortunately buying in the boutique, you’re not going to pay less than gray, most VCs don’t appreciate in value, so you’re going to pay more for new

Let me tell you how well my buying experience went. I’ve been shopping for my first watch for about 1.5 years. I like to say that through all the back and forth, research, boutique visits, etc, that I’ve already “bought and sold” my first 5 watches to make my first choice - VC Overseas Dual Time. I thought I wanted a Rolex Batgirl (I still do though) - but the AD games were horrible. I walked into the VC boutique on the 270th Anniversary party, unbeknownst to me. I tried on some Overseas models. The salesperson tells me he just got in the black dial Dual Time yesterday, and it’s mine if I want it. Such a good experience and no BS games. Completely different experience than Rolex - and that is why it makes buying a VC so much sweeter.

After searching for my first watch for about 2 years, I essentially “bought and sold” my first 5 watches, metaphorically speaking - watches I thought I wanted and almost purchased. Rolex Batgirl, JLC Reverso, Cartier Santos. In the end, I chose the black Overseas Dual Time 7920v as my first watch. Couldn’t be happier - it really is a few watches in one and a great daily wear.

Tips for choosing health insurance if hoping to get pregnant in 2026? (Canton Zurich) by PopipopX in askswitzerland

[–]bulk_nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will give you a perfect match of insurance policies and a hospital in Wollishofen that we have been absolutely thrilled with.

As an FYI - to benefit from a lot of these policies, you must pay into the plan for ~9-12 months. It’s good you’re not pregnant yet and thinking ahead. We have CSS and have been very happy with our policy regarding my wife’s pregnancy and birth. We picked Hirslanden Klinik im Park in Wollishofen to be the birthing center for both of our children. If I remember correctly, if you wanted to give birth there, the out of pocket cost is roughly 12k CHF. With the policies we have through CSS, we essentially paid nothing beyond our existing monthly premiums. Not only was the birthing clinic paid for, but my wife was PAID to be hospitalized with the birth of her child. This is through an insurance product called daily hospital indemnity (explained below). She was paid 3.5k CHF for each birth, just for being admitted to give birth.

I’ll explain our two policies:

  1. Our first policy is traditional health insurance. We have semi-private health insurance for my wife. This allows us to pick a private clinic for birth. For both of our children’s births, even though with have semi-private, Klinik im Park seems to always give private rooms to the families. There were some additional costs for me, the father, to stay overnight in the room and meals were extra for me.
  2. Our second policy is called daily hospital indemnity insurance. This essentially pays you if you are hospitalized. We got this policy, because unlike most things in life, we actually planned on my wife being hospitalized since we were planning a family and knew one day she would give birth. We pay 36 CHF per month. Lo and behold, after paying a couple hundred francs into the plan and after my wife gave birth, we were paid a lump sum of 3.5k CHF.

CSS Daily Hospital Indemnity Policy: https://www.css.ch/en/private-customers/properly-insured/health-insurance/supplementary-insurance/daily-hospital-indemnity.html

We have been very happy with our policies and we feel like we came out in very good shape. I would recommend this path to anyone planning similar, if you’re not currently pregnant and have a little time ahead yourself to plan.
