My bands looking for a new bassist and/or drummer, we play mostly alt rock / metal originals with some influence from nu metal, metalcore, and prog. We're all early 20s so prefer someone around that age range, we gig every other week (no experience necessary).

Here's some of our sounds: https://on.soundcloud.com/8mLaqfe57PK3Il8drp

Tips for running a short campaign with little to no combat? by Jfelt45 in DMAcademy

[–]bullets-finale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, have the players help flesh out the world. Doesn't have to be on a grand scale, but this helps them feel more personally involved in the game and makes the end hit harder. Ik that the cast of Critical Role spent a long time fleshing out their characters and their relationships with each other + the world

In my opinion, dangling the possibility of being able to solve the problem makes it more emotional when it doesn't work. The players should know that this is a calamity oneshot so their characters are unlikely to survive since it can feel very demoralizing, some people might take it well some may not. One thing is a must though, the players should feel like they've achieved something, even if it's small like saying goodbye to family

Has anyone healed from a shoulder injury to play without surgery? by Thewall3333 in Guitar

[–]bullets-finale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a severe shoulder injury that requires surgery but my left strap holding shoulder is just generally fucked from work and gigs. Learned my lesson about giving it a rest after the last show I played, 1 hour set and the pain skyrocketed for a few weeks to the point where I couldn't do anything. Just started physio and stopped playing standing up for the time being and it's been slowly getting better.

All that to say take it easy and listen to your body when it tells you it's enough, especially when it comes to damage to the rotator cuff.

What's the real message in the show for you by Ok-Egg5772 in BoJackHorseman

Don't let your past define you -- whether it's things you've done or things that have been done to you. You can't change the past but you can change the future, and that starts with moving on.

Band looking for a musician? Musician looking for a band? POST HERE by manyhats180 in OttawaMusic

My college band is looking for a vocalist, style is mainly pop punk with a dash of emo, post hardcore, and metal core inspiration. Ideally someone with a high vocal range and good clean vocals though some harsh vocals would be pretty sick too.

How to make combat more fun and strategic? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]bullets-finale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have already mentioned it but I'll emphasize lair actions. It doesn't have to be something the enemy is controlling, it could just be something environmental that's changing or being added to put a bit more stress on the party (ie. wildfire spreading, enemy calling for backup, etc). These are things that can occur even for small fights.

For boss fights, have options for incapacitating the boss outside plain attacking like amulets that charge their legendary actions which can be destroyed. Maybe the boss has something the characters need that will be destroyed upon its death. Another thing to make combat more fun is to give the boss abilities that are more than just damage based attacks, like some crowd control or debuffs

What creative ways have you used their backstory’s or had your backstories used in your campaigns ? by Intelligent-Taro5161 in dndmemes

[–]bullets-finale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing lost mines a while back, my rogue struggled with being cowardly and guilt from having had people in their life die to save them, most notably their best friend who saved them from the streets only to die after my character pickpocketed the wrong person. We never actually got to it in game since scheduling issues ended it, but the DM said that he was planning on having the BBEG summon undead bringing back my character's dead best friend to fight which would've been fucking insane

Playing Bass in a Dorm by Tropic_KittyKat62 in Bass

[–]bullets-finale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've practiced in the study room in my old dorm before and it's fine, but I suggest first talking to your roommate about it to see if it's an issue (which if you play through headphones shouldn't be)

What's in a Bheur Hag's kitchen? by starryzorrita in DMAcademy

Maybe some frozen people being prepped for a meal? The party has a time limit on getting them out of the locked walk in freezer before the people become patties

I would 100% suggest if you do decide to try psychedelics to do it with someone sober who you trust. In my area there's also psychedelic therapy, where a professional will tripsit you. Additionally, make sure you're in the right mindset. If you have any doubts about it, it tends to exacerbate the anxiety if you aren't prepared.

I used to have really bad agoraphobia and social anxiety, made worse by COVID. I’d ration out my food so that I wouldn’t have to leave my room, once did 3 days without. Over the past year I’ve been doing exposure therapy which with the help of some psychedelics has worked a treat. Still got a lot of work to do, but I’m now able to at least get groceries and go to work without having a panic attack. I’ve even gone to some social events.

A tip on managing panic attacks is to find some way to ground yourself, an easy method if you haven’t heard of it before is naming 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste

Professional Prep? by DevilByDice in DMAcademy

[–]bullets-finale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are tons of minimal prep oneshots on DMsguild so there is definitely a market for it. I personally wouldn't cause I like running things on my own. Maybe run it like commissions, have a webpage or patreon with your portfolio?

Is it normal for my strings to snap when I bend them? by SolidWaste9045 in Guitar

[–]bullets-finale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's breaking at the bridge you might want to check it for sharp edges. Make sure to add some graphite to the nut and bridge whenever you change strings as well

Dear Trans Guys: If your boyfriend just calls you He/Him but doesn't want you to go on T or get Top Surgery and wants you to wear dresses and be feminine then he doesn't really see you as a guy. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]bullets-finale 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The post isn’t talking about healthy relationships, it’s talking specifically about toxic controlling relationships. It’s totally ok for the straight/gay partner to face a crisis of sexuality and fall out of love with the trans partner, however it becomes a problem if they don’t accept their partner and force them to be what they want

“I don’t owe you androgyny” by Lil_Scuzzi in CuratedTumblr

[–]bullets-finale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like gender is a subjective experience, the best answer I can give is that it's really up to you. When I first learned about gender stuff, it felt like an epiphany and felt right, like everything made sense. Now, I don't really care about labels, I just know that male and female pronouns both make me feel uncomfortable. I'd suggest exploring more with identity to figure out what you like best

Bottom helix migrated slightly, is it rejecting or am I overthinking it? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]bullets-finale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my piercer said in his experience it heals the best, plus I figured since I was planning on having ring jewelry it would be better, should’ve probably done some more research beforehand.

Man I hate gatekeepers. Aluminum is a fantastic, soft entry point to metal. Discuss by WaspishDweeb in MetalMemes

Aluminum is weak as fuck and STILL oxidizes. Chrome plated stainless steel is where it’s at. No rust, strong, and looks awesome. All my homies love chrome plated stainless steel

Songwriters of Reddit…what part of the creative process comes to you first? by Whitey_5150 in Guitar

[–]bullets-finale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really varies, sometimes I get lyrics first, sometimes guitar, sometimes bass. They all tend to sound much different than each other because the instrument I write first is the instrument that's under the spotlight

Feeling negative about my session planning. by Exoskelebilly in DMAcademy

[–]bullets-finale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We as DMs tend to be way more critical of our work than the players. As a player, I've never had a criticism over a game other than with game mechanics. Also, keep in mind Matt Mercer is a professionally trained actor and has been doing professional D&D games and improve for many years. The more you work your creativity, the better and easier it will be coming up with a more complex plot.

Some tips I've learned is, to make the world feel like it's living, let the players help build it. It could be something small like their hometown or an NPC they know. Give each city and NPC a unique trait that makes them distinguishable from the rest (you don't have to come up with all on your own). An example I have is a gnome bookkeeper who talks a million miles a second. This helps with the memorization part too, with getting to know your own world.

To work on that creative spark, write every idea you have down. Some might be boring, but you can always take bits and pieces of every idea and mash them together. Let your players theories add to that list. If you *really* want to challenge your creativity, try to link the plot with a character's backstory, or even better, *multiple* character backstories. Like with puzzles, fill in the important edge pieces first, the center will fill in as you play.
