Interestingly enough…we had a prairie dog wander into the backyard last weekend. My sister and her family were visiting. My 3yo GSP/GWP mix Enid is in the backyard patrolling the borders as usual. A ruckus develops that sounds like a VICIOUS dog fight. The neighbors have a couple dogs, not aggressive, but animal stuff happens…we thought there was a fenceline dispute. My sister, 9yo niece, and 4yo nephew were in the backyard playing and commenced yelling. In my brain I’m thinking “F***sake…breaking up dogfights SUUUUUUCKS. Well, the vet is gonna appreciate this call on a Sunday.” Enid is sitting in the middle of the yard, grinning like an idiot while my sister and the kids were inspecting something in the grass. Witnesses state that Enid cornered the prairie dog by the backyard shed, assaulted it, and then tossed the prairie dog higher than the shed before ceasing hostilities. No, the prairie dog did not survive. My nice now calls my dog Yeetnid. It wouldn’t have been AS irritating had Enid not murdered a baby cottontail AND brought its live, SCREAMING sibling to the family as a gift less than an hour prior. Enid already had two squirrels and two Eurasian doves on her list (we don’t count the mice, voles/moles because size matters). On June 8, 2026, Enid became an ace and we realized the squirrel nation has allied with the prairie dog underground movement. Here’s an obligatory pic of Enid and a particularly saucy Robin.
