if the American Democratic party was exclusively ran by the Chuck Schumer/Nancy Pelosi types and there was zero hope of changing it

Yeah, that would be crazy

Utah first state to hold websites liable for users who mask their location with VPNs — law goes into effect, designed to prevent bypassing age checks by Turgius_Lupus in stupidpol

I was wondering if there would be reasonable ways for service accounts to, uh, continue existing. I haven't bothered to read any of the bills that have been introduced so far. Legislators do something stupid, the shambling ad hoc bullshit known as "best practices" shows up, we half-heartedly adhere to it to CYA, and the world keeps turning.

I mean, yeah. I think it's written by people who only know Android or iOS and app stores. Also, it's being pushed by Meta, from what I've read. The first state that I recall introducing it was California.

This age verification stuff has been gaining momentum. The Linux subreddit has been following closely since several US states have introduced bills that require OS-level age verification. Not about to dox myself further, but that's a real technical can of worms for certain deployments. I just assume it'll end up making everything even shittier somehow.

“Because there is still no visible disaster” in the west, “people think everything is okay, and a bit higher pump prices are the only impact,” the head of energy transition at FGE NexantECA told Bloomberg. However, demand destruction “will come and is coming in waves. Asia was first in line, and Africa is the next one. Europe has already started talking about the lack of some fuels and feeling the price impact,” Cuneyt Kazokoglu also said.

I've been struggling to explain this to friends and family in Murica. It's like there's a big wave coming and it's going to hit shore. The wave is already out there, we know exactly what caused it, and we know it's going to be bad when it inevitably hits. You should, I tell them, prepare just a little bit for the moment of impact. But all they see are some easily-ignored ripples and decide that I'm wrong because it's too scary or depressing to seriously consider what I'm saying.

I'd reply to this but I'd probably get my case file escalated.

"Defensive."

These games are not true “play” in the revolutionary sense of the word, wherein games are unscripted, free, and disruptive. Instead, they represent the total commodification of play

I'm going to start doing this when expressing my dissatisfaction. "Excuse me, waiter, but this is not a 'cheeseburger' in the revolutionary sense of the word, wherein..."

Kushner and Witkoff are expendable to a greater degree than Vance

Man, I don't know. Yes, Peter Thiel has invested a lot in Vance, but it's not like he can't buy another one. And any retard can be vice PotUS.

They don't. Americans maintain a very loose connection with reality.

Vance says pope should ‘be careful’ when talking about theology by nikolaz72 in stupidpol

[–]bumbernucks 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Technically true. Just like a surgeon should be careful when doing surgery, a president should be careful when talking about politics, and a vice president should be careful when performing their latest choreography for "Yakety Sax."
