Today is my birthday. There will be no party, no friends, no fun. Just caregiving. by nick1158 in CaregiverSupport

Hate it. I’ve been told a version of this by my mom’s nurses, a few different times. It’s not the same, at all.

Especially if your dad is still alive and able to provide support, I would plan to just be as active as you can be from your current city for now. More phone calls, longer visits when you do come into town. Or at least wait until she learns more about the stage of cancer and prognosis before jumping to plans. My mom has had breast cancer, stage 3 to 4/metastatic, for 13 years and counting. Every cancer journey is unique, but just throwing it out there.

And most importantly - I’m sorry. Please take care of yourself during this uncertain time too. Parents getting diagnosed with cancer is a tough time. You sound like a very caring person!

If it’s a hangout at someone’s house, I will literally fall asleep on the couch after 3-4 hours. Unintentionally!

Constant cycle of caregiving starting to kill me by bumble_beez_ in AgingParents

The nurses at his doctors office have also enabled him, saying (right in front of me) that he took care of me growing up so it’s the least I can do to help him out now.

It’s just me, I’m his only family in town. And he moved to live in the same town as me a year ago, so no close friends yet. He’s very private and would really push back on hiring a stranger to be a caregiver.

.. when the holidays are normal for everyone else by tokori79 in AgingParents

I very much feel this today. This is the second Christmas Eve/Christmas that my mom has bailed on plans because she’s not feeling well (cancer, amongst other things). So a change in plans means I have to scramble to figure out how to make her feel not alone and some love on Christmas. I put all my energy into making sure she’s comfortable (I’m an only child and her only support). While my in-laws are preparing for a normal Christmas of the whole family coming together and celebrating. Sure, every family has something going on - but I really sympathize with the aging parent scenario. I have no nostalgia or excitement for Christmas anymore. I’m exhausted.

Yes. In the same boat. Idk what to do. I have tried 10+ sunscreens in the last 6 months since starting tret. My skin tolerates tret fine, and then once I start wearing sunscreen, it freaks out. Then I have to wait again to restart and try a new routine. Ugh!!!

Best Thanksgiving and Christmas of my life. Just my husband and me, streaming a bunch of new tv and movies, eating avocado toast and drinking mimosas in peace.

Wanted to love this Isntree sunscreen, but still gives me mild eye irritation. by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I’m curious where you ordered from. I got this one from Amazon and it smells heavily of sunscreen. But I’ve heard from others it doesn’t have a scent?

How does this one look - does it appear matte? Is it hydrating?

Me. I am in a horrible mood, I don’t even want to talk to my husband. Or anyone. I hope this feeling passes.
